My Favorite Thing About Writing: You Can Do It Anywhere

If you’ve ever written anything simply because you wanted to, I’m sure you can agree that there are many things that drove you. There are a handful of reasons I enjoy – no, crave – writing, but I want to talk about the one that keeps me going.

You can write a story anywhere.

Now, I’m not talking about pen-to-paper, fingers flying over the keyboard.

I guess what I’m really talking about is creating. Imagining is a huge part of writing, whether it’s fiction or not. A lot of thinking goes into your writing before you actually start to put words on a page. That is my favorite part.

You get to let your brain play. In writing, there are no limits, and if you’ve chosen to write fiction, you make your own rules. And not just with words and sentence structure. Some of the best creative elements in stories I’ve read – and even some plot points in my own stories – were born out of necessity when a writer has backed themselves into a corner. I think a large amount of plot twists come to life after an author has an “oh crap” moment and their brain went into overdrive trying to think of a creative way to move the story forward.

So, how do you create the story before you put it on paper?

Every writer has a different method, but most of my stories take form while I’m listening to music. Lyrics don’t always inspire me, but melodies do. The ache and yearning of a song can spin wonders in my head. So half the time, my books get “written” in my car while I’m running errands, while I’m cleaning house, or when I’m on my way to pick up my kid from school. I may not be putting pen to paper or meeting my word count goals in those moments, but the most essentially parts of my writing happen in my car or when I’m moving around with headphones on and music in my ears.

So, I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t limit yourself. Don’t expect all of your story to come out of your brain the minute you sit at your computer. Let yourself play and be creative. Have fun with your own brain because it’s the one thing you do carry with you everywhere. Make notes in your phone if you think you’ll forget something, but imagine, imagine, imagine as you go through your day. Constantly be working by playing in your mind. It can change your whole view of the writing process when you stop limiting yourself to only creating when you’re in front of a keyboard.

If you’re starting a new story, or perhaps writing a book for the first time, good luck! You can do it. Just keep finding ways to be creative, and keep setting aside time to put words on the page, and you’ll get there.

Happy writing!

FEBRUARY UPDATES: Mom Life, A Coffee Disaster (almost), and Current Projects/ Future Releases

Hello Readers!

I hope you’ve had a wonderful February! It’s been an interesting year so far, but February FLEW by compared to January. In this update you’ll find:

A personal check-in so you can get to know me better!A review of what readers have been interested in lately! An update on current projects and future releases!Book Recs! (Romance books on my TBR by authors who have no affiliation with this – they just write good books!)My birthday was this month!

I turned 32, and I’m feeling pretty great about it actually! I spent some time with my family and kiddo, ate some very chocolatey cake, and let my kiddo watch the less violent parts of Pirates of the Caribbean because who doesn’t love sword fights?

Oh! The coffee disaster! One dreadful, desperate morning, my coffee maker had the nerve to quit working! After a decade-long relationship, it just gave up. Poor thing. Anyways, I got a new one. Felt like a traitor. I think I’ll name it once it stops feeling like I betrayed a friend. Any suggestions?

Mom Life = Busy Life

February had a lot of beautiful days in our area, which was surprising! We took every opportunity to explore the outdoors when it wasn’t gross and icy. The other day, we were lucky enough to have a nice, cool day, sunshine, and a free afternoon. We are SO READY for Spring!

A Successful Giveaway & What Readers Have Been Reading

Earlier this month, I did a giveaway on Amazon where readers could get Who The Hell Is Jackson Pell for completely FREE!
It was so much fun to see new readers discover the series while some of my (very appreciated!) familiar readers shared how much they liked the series. It was a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and my birthday!

If you missed the giveaway, the series is still available to read FREE with your Kindle Unlimited subscription. The books are also available for purchase in both ebook and paperback formats. Click here to check out the series on Amazon!

What else have readers been reading?

Although Christmas has come and gone, I’ve been so excited to see that reader interest has continued through January and February! Don’t forget, there’s no wrong time to read an adorable (and spicy!) holiday rom-com. It’s a fast read and so fun to dive into during the last of the cold weather days.

Christmas Is Doomed is available at most retailers, but here are a few links to the most popular ones.

Currently Working On…
(and other things to look forward to)

This book has put me through so much.
*laughs nervously*

This will either be my most favorite thing I’ve ever written, or I will be eating cookie dough throughout the day on its release day.

There has been so much support and patience from readers regarding this project, and all I can say is thank you. Believe me, I can’t believe it’s not out yet either, but all the work that has gone into it is worth it. It is already so much more of a story than it started as. This book makes you laugh, cry, hope, scream, and hope some more.

Three Summers Later will be releasing sometime in the next months. I don’t have an exact day yet – I’m trying to keep the pressure low. It will be available well before the start of summer, so get ready to lose yourself in it no matter when you have your vacation time scheduled.

If you’ve so kindly asked about this book in the past, thank you so much. I probably have your social media handle written down in my journal somewhere because the handful of you that have reached out (even in the comments on old posts!) are the absolute best!

Leave Me Bleeding: A Vampire Romance was previously published on Kindle Vella before it left the platform. If you didn’t know, Kindle Vella has shut down completely, but I removed Leave Me Bleeding when the story was still in its beginning stages due to various changes on the platform that I felt were unfair to both readers and writers.

While I wish the platform had been made available in more countries before Amazon shut it down, no fear! Leave Me Bleeding is still coming out as a full-length, finished novel this year!

Leave Me Bleeding is a love story set in a very violent, tense world divided between humans and vampires. Here are two short excerpts from Leave Me Bleeding:

How it starts:

I can still see her face — my sweet, sweet sister. Charlotte.

All we wanted was to see beyond the wall. To see whether the rumors were true. We wanted to see whether society was totally destroyed in the Vampire Kingdom, overrun with barely-human creatures and painted with blood and ash.

It wasn’t. The Vampire Kingdom, or the VK, as they call it, wasn’t anything special. The city we happened to look in on was just that — a regular city, abandoned during the day.

We never should have snuck in. We should have known there would be traps to keep us on their side of the wall until sundown when they could come out. We should have known there was no going back. Otherwise, there would be more stories in the United Lands of Humanity.

It’s too late now though. Charlotte is gone, and I’m here, in this cell.

During the day, the sun streams through slots in the warehouse ceiling overhead, eliminating any need for daytime security. But at night, when they come, there’s no chance of escape anyways. Not until they choose you.

My name is Quinn Vreeland, and I’m blood donor number one thirty-seven. I have been at the Human Distribution Facility near the VK border for forty-three days. My sister was sold to the vampire king on the third day, and two days ago, one of the guards told me a buyer was coming for me.

I don’t have a choice. All I can do is wait for them to unlock the door so I can run like hell.

When they meet:

When hands try to force me into the open seat, I push back hard, and I fall. There’s a sound of frustration — someone is clearly pissed off — and I see the vague shape of a man moving out of the van, waving his hand dismissively and swearing as he goes. He jumps out, and they shut the door behind him.

There’s a single light overhead, dim, but bright enough that I notice the other girls are staring at me. It takes me a moment, but I slowly realize I’m not lying flat on the floor.

I’m in someone’s lap. Someone’s large lap. I blink, my vision starting to blur.

It’s not all women in the van. There’s a man.

He’s looking down at me with black eyes, lined with a sliver of gray. Long curtains of brown-black hair fall past his shoulders, and surprise lights his face.

I feel his hands holding me in place as if he caught me and doesn’t know what to do next, his strange eyes fixated on my neck where Cavin had bitten me.

I must look like I’m dying. I’m bleeding out in his lap.

I reach up my hand, not sure what I intend to do with it, but it brushes against something cold. Something metal.

There’s a cage on his face — a muzzle, clearly designed to fit a human.

I frown, wrapping my fingers around one of the thin, metal bars.

“Thank you,” I murmur, and his hands tighten, fingers pressing firmly through my shift dress, securing my back and waist to keep me from rolling off his legs.

“Don’t thank me yet,” he murmurs, his voice rough like the rolling waves of an ocean. He grimaces, his upper lip pulling back, and his fangs glint in the dim light.

“Vampire,” I murmur, extending my pointer finger that had been looped through his face cage. Delirious, I stroke my finger down the length of one of his fangs, the longest one I’ve ever seen. “Please,” I struggle, my voice little more than a croak. “Help me.”

Book Rec’ Time!

Today’s book recs are coming directly from my personal TBR list. I’m currently reading All The Missing Pieces by Catherine Cowles, and it is so hard to put down. I am absolutely loving it, and if you love audiobooks, the narrators are fantastic! The ebook is available on Kindle Unlimited.

DECEMBER UPDATES: A Spicy Christmas Rom-Com & A Happy New Year!

Hello readers!

We’ve almost reached the end of 2024, and I cannot believe how fast the year has flown by. This year was busy, intense, and surprising, but I hope for some that it also had moments of reflection and motivation. As we move into the next year, I’m really looking forward to the projects I have coming. In case you missed it, I had one surprise release this month – and it was so much fun!

CHRISTMAS IS DOOMED: Ebook Available Everywhere, Paperback on Amazon & Coming Soon to Other RetailersA Hilarious (and spicy) Holiday Rom-Com

Spread Christmas cheer? Check.
Pass out hot coco? Check.
Kill Santa – wait, what?

When Ruby’s irritating (and annoyingly hot) neighbor, Theo, spoils Christmas Eve, Ruby retaliates, but their year-long feud leads them straight towards disaster.

With the fate of Christmas resting in their hands, Ruby and Theo must work together to save their small town’s most beloved holiday.

With hope, magic, and a little luck swirling in the air, they might have a chance, but if they don’t work together… CHRISTMAS IS DOOMED!

Christmas Is Doomed is a hilarious (and spicy) rom-com with all the holiday feels sprinkled in.

Enemies to LoversSmall Town / NeighborsForced to Work TogetherHe Falls FirstStandaloneAmazonApple BooksBarnes & NobleKoboUPCOMING RELEASE: Three Summers Later

If you’ve been waiting on this one and haven’t completely lost your patience, you are a freaking gem. Trust me, no one wants this book out in the world more than I do. I want it to be done… and that’s exactly why it has taken so long.

This story had so many good things going. It had moments I obsessed over. It had character that tugged at my heartstrings and made me drool. But the one thing it really needed was to be hacked apart and stitched back together. It wasn’t flowing. Some of the middle dragged. I knew if I was bored, you’d be bored. The structure was whack, and no one wants that.

So, I’m very happy to say – the good parts are now AMAZING, and the lag is GONE! The story flows in just the right way to scratch that itch you have for a yearning, summer love. It is so very close to being released. I am NOT going to make you wait until summer. THREE SUMMERS LATER will be available very early in 2025, and I have lost so many hours of sleep trying to make sure that every part of this book is totally worth every minute of waiting.

So, if you’ve been (incredibly) supportive of every post I’ve made on social media about this one – I see you, I appreciate you, and every time your username pops up in my notifications, I say, “Aww..” and then get back to work. You all have been so motivating, and I’m forever grateful.

Coming Early 2025…

He captured my heart, but life forced us apart.

Now, life’s brought him back to me.

Life is full of choices, but only your heart can make the right one.

When Ava meets Josh, a summer crush quickly turns into head-over-heels love. But after a heartbreaking end to summer, it takes time for Ava to give love another chance. When she finally does, Marcus sweeps her off her feet, ready to give her the world. But Marcus’s choices bring Ava back to the one place she never thought she’d return – and reconnects her with a familiar face. One beach, one summer, and too many hearts at risk to break.

Three Summers Later, a second-chance romance with all the summer beach vibes, coming early 2025!

Coming 2025And what comes after that?Leave Me Bleeding: A Vampire Romance (previously on Kindle Vella) will be released as a full novel! I didn’t have a huge following on Kindle Vella while this was available, but the readers who did engage with the story were kind enough to share their excitement for more. If you’re a Vella reader, you may be aware that Kindle Vella is shutting down for good in February. While Leave Me Bleeding left Kindle Vella a while ago, I’m still sad to see the Vella platform disappear before becoming available to more readers worldwide. That being said, when Leave Me Bleeding is released as FULL NOVEL (yay!), it will be widely available to both ebook and paperback readers. The last two books of THE PELL PLAYHOUSE series! Eek! I don’t want to say too much yet, but I do plan on completing the series THIS YEAR. Currently, books 1-3 are available on Kindle Unlimited, and they can be read without being left on an unbearable cliffhanger. Book four will be told from two new main characters’ perspectives, and book five will be a really nice wrap-up of the whole series where you get to see your favorite characters one last time. Everyone will get a perfect farewell and happy ending. It’ll be like a big, very-needed hug for some of them. If you started my author journey with me back when I released Who The Hell Is Jackson Pell back in 2020, you have my heart, and I am forever grateful. Some of y’all took a chance on my debut, and the love you gave it meant so much.I actually have an unhealthy amount of books I want to release this coming year, so that’s all I’m going to say for right now. I’m pacing myself, so I can deliver more. However, I do plan on being more consistent with monthly updates. This end-of-December update is kind of a mental reset for myself, and I will be keeping you all updated here as consistently as possible. I plan to share a monthly update, but I will also likely share news leading up to release dates so no one misses anything. However, if you prefer to engage on social media, you know where to find me! My Linktree also has all my social media links if you’re worried about TikTok possibly shutting down in the US. What to read…

Who The Hell Is Jackson Pell  is currently available on Kindle Unlimited – read for free!

What’s on my TBR?

There are actually too many books on my TBR to share all of them, BUT I am finally getting to a few that I’ve put off for far too long. So what am I currently reading? What am I about to read? What should you also be reading? Here’s just a few!

A spicy, dark romance I know you’ve heard of…

APRIL UPDATES: Main Character Name Change & New Releases Coming Your Way

Hello readers!

We’ve made it through the beginning of the year, and for me, it has been a busy one! There has been a lot of drafting, revising, pondering, as well as balancing a busy mom life. I’m so excited for what this year brings, and I can’t wait to share the stories I have underway!

What’s new?A Name Change for a Main Character!Three Summers Later is filled with beach vibes, complicated choices, and all the passion of an undeniable and everlasting summer love.

Three Summers Later will be releasing this summer, and it’s undergone some hefty changes. Last summer, I made the decision to postpone the release for a full year – and I am so ready for this story to be shared! The final change this story is experiencing is a name change for the main character. Sheridan (a beautiful name) is now Ava, which suits her much better.

There were some structural changes that made the story flow more smoothly while eliminating a few moments that felt flat. One element to this second-chance, contemporary romance is the beloved forced proximity trope. Readers will be excited to hear that our main characters are not only on one beach this summer… but also might find themselves sharing one roof for part of the story. Get ready for the summer heat to burn!

Upcoming Releases & Reveals

If you’re wondering about upcoming releases and what I’m currently working on, I’ve added a little sneak peak to the homepage!

Alongside the books already available, you can see the covers of soon-to-be released works and blurred covers of other projects coming later.

THIS YEAR, YOU CAN EXPECT:

Three Summers Later (releasing this summer) Love With You (releasing this fall)Books currently available will have a clickable image or title. Coming releases will not be clickable but have a place-filler image until the cover is fully revealed!

ALSO THIS YEAR:

I’m currently writing a dark, second-chance romance with a very protective MMC. This story came out of nowhere and stole my heart, and I would love to release it this year. Title & Cover Reveal coming soon!Leave Me Bleeding: A Vampire Romance (previously on Kindle Vella) will be released as a full novel! I’m hoping for a fall release, but the draft is currently around 50% completion, so it will depend on how smoothly the editing process goes.A Reminder From February’s Update:My next releases are going WIDE! What does this mean?

Every reader has a favorite format – and every eBook lover has a favorite platform. While my books are currently available on multiple storefronts, they are currently distributed through Amazon. This means that although you can find the paperback on another website, it still comes from Amazon. Also, my current releases are all available on Kindle Unlimited which means the eBooks are not available anywhere else. Amazon has an exclusivity clause, meaning I can’t make those eBooks available elsewhere while available on Kindle Unlimited.

While my currently available books are remaining on Kindle Unlimited, I’d like my future books to available to more readers on more platforms This means they will become more accessible, even to places like libraries. My next release will still be available through Amazon / Kindle, but it will not be available on Kindle Unlimited. It will be available in places like Apple Books and Barnes and Noble Nook. It will be available on Kobo Plus which is a subscription similar to Kindle Unlimited, but it does not have an exclusivity clause.

What about the rest of The Pell Playhouse series? As of right now, my plans are to keep The Pell Playhouse series available on Kindle Unlimited through the release of books four and five. After their release, the whole series will remain on Kindle Unlimited for a period of time. There has been a lot of pushback from authors about Amazon’s exclusivity clause for Kindle Unlimited, so I will revisit whether they will stay in KU, but not until several months after the release of the final book.

What to read…

Here a few books I’ve recently added to my to be read pile. I haven’t cracked all of these open yet, so always be sure to check Trigger Warnings. Some of these may be available free through Kindle Unlimited or Amazon Prime. Happy reading!

A brand new release (April 15) by an author I love…

Just This Once by Lena Hendrix

A book that had me clicking “buy now” after one sentence…

Snaring Emberly by Gigi Styx

A book (second of a duet) that reminds you to save a horse and ride a cowboy…

FEBRUARY UPDATES: Cover Change & New Kindle Vella Release

Hello readers!

I hope you’re having a wonderful start to the year! My year started with a lot choices on what to focus on this year as well as a lot of new inspiration. I’m so excited for the stories I have coming, and I can’t wait for them to be set free into the world.

What’s New?A New Cover Design for an Upcoming Summer Romance

Three Summers Later will be releasing this summer (2024), and it’s getting a new look! While I absolutely loved the original cover, I didn’t feel like it reflected the passionate tones of the story and the yearning that develops between characters. The new cover captures the essence of the story, and the color scheme is just gorgeous. Some of the elements (like the cute beach houses) from the original cover will be saved and used as chapter headings for the paperback edition of the book.

Three Summers Later is a second-chance, adult contemporary romance filled with beach vibes, complicated choices, and all the passion of an undeniable and everlasting summer love. Episode 11: Alluring Claim is now available on Kindle Vella! Leave Me Bleeding: A Vampire Romance is an ongoing serial story with new episodes released on Kindle Vella. Kindle Vella can be found in the Kindle app by clicking “shorts.” (Currently available in the US.) Click here to read now!

Leave Me Bleeding will release as a full novel after the story’s completion on Kindle Vella.

Leave Me Bleeding: A Vampire Romance: Quinn Vreeland is separated from her sister after sneaking into the Vampire Kingdom and sent to the Human Distribution Facility – a blood bank for vampires. When she’s purchased and taken to a mansion miles from the human lands and surrounded by wet woodlands, she’s faced with being hunted for sport and claimed by one of the vampires. Quinn only hopes to escape and find her sister, but a brooding vampire changes everything. He doesn’t want to hunt her, but he will to get what he needs.

What else is happening?New episodes of Leave Me Bleeding coming soon!Three Summers Later is releasing SUMMER 2024!A new DARK ROMANCE project is underway. Think Sons of Anarchy vibes but with a heavy focus on romance and character backstories that start on the verge of adulthood. The outline is looking beefy, and the characters are already so fleshed out – I love it! Stay tuned for title and cover reveal! (Word count progress: over 10k out of 90k written.) My next releases are going WIDE! What does this mean?

New Discreet Covers

The Pell Playhouse series has a new look!

After much excitement and input from readers, the available books in The Pell Playhouse series have had a cover redesign. These new discreet covers are now available with the eBooks and in paperback. The paperbacks also include an greyscale version of the original “spicy” image used on the previous book covers – couldn’t get rid of all those hunky man abdominals completely! The “spicy” image is the first page of the paperback when you open the book. The paperbacks also have a music playlist listed in the front for each book that compliments the tone and events of each book of the series.

To go to the Amazon page for more information on the entire series, click here.

Lovers Against the Kingdom (Story Excerpt)

“I promise, my lady, I will come back for you.”

He pressed his full, warm lips against mine so hard that my words of protest were stifled. And then he was swiftly gone, slipping down the dark tunnel and disappearing into the shadows.

You cannot leave, I think, my soul weeping for him. They will catch him surely, and they will know what he has done. To think the king would show any sympathy would be laughable if it weren’t so frightening.

I must stop him. The thought rings through my head more clearly than anything I’ve ever known. Whatever the cost, I must stop him.

I don’t hesitate, but rather, I plunge into the darkness after him, feeling along the walls, heading straight to the dungeons of the castle.
