Launch Day! Red Dahlia is here!
Announcing the launch of Red Dahlia!
Historical fiction thriller set in the late 1940s. Nor. Paranormal.
FREE on Kindle Unlimited!
The shocking discovery of a horribly mutilated body ignites fears that a killer has resurfaced. Not just any killer, but the mysterious fiend who, two years before, perpetrated the most infamous and heinous murder yet seen in the 20th Century: The Black Dahlia.
No one suspects the truth, that this victim died of something far more sinister and dangerous than merely a deranged murderer.
What begins with a beautiful woman’s mutilated body left as a grisly display left in a Kansas City neighborhood soon takes a turn towards the supernatural in a noir murder mystery that marries intense psychodrama to bursts of expressionist style. Enter the mind of the killer and the realm he inhabits, where a wanted killer is not the greatest danger an innocent girl faces.
This stand-alone thriller is the second book in the series. While the first book may enhance your enjoyment of Red Dahlia, it is meant to be enjoyed on its own

Seeking ARC Readers for Upcoming Book
The standalone sequel to The Last Vampire: The Strange Legend of Mercy BrownThe Last Vampire is scheduled for release 6/6/22. I am looking for readers to give an honest review on or near launch day.
Although this is a sequel, it is stand-alone set in 1949. Noir. Multicultural. Sexy, but not graphic. Unlike the first in the series, this is a novel and is not based upon actual events.

The killer flees across the Jim Crow south with a kidnapped teenage girl--will she be his next victim? Or does she hold the key to her survival within?
If this sounds like something you will enjoy reading over Memorial Day before everyone else gets their copy, let me know, and I will hook you up!

Down...but not out!
I have been off social media for a week or so.
The truth is, I have been ill. Nothing serious or life-threatening (thank God!) but rather debilitating and quite painful. Keeping up with my day job takes about all the energy I have.
Now, the GOOD NEWS: I have not bothered to update the price of THE LAST VAMPIRE, which remains available for $1.30 for the 130th anniversary of the climax of the real-life events portrayed therein. This means you can still buy the e-book at all retailers for $1.30!
There are signs that I am now recovering--which is nice, as today marks two weeks since it hit--so I hope to be back to normal by next week. So, act now to take full advantage of this great offer!

130 years ago this week...
This week marks the 130th anniversary of the last exhumation and desecration of a person suspected to be a vampire...at least in America.
As far as we know.
The life, death and second death of Mercy Brown form the basis of the true story told in my novel, The Last Vampire.
To commemorate this occasion, I am offering The Last Vampire e-book for only $1.30 at all retailers through the weekend.
Don't miss out! Download your copy today--wherever books are sold!

Thanks for a great Launch Day!
Yesterday was Launch Day for The Last Vampire, and it was fun and exciting as usual!
I want to thank everyone for a successful launch, and for retweeting and posting about the book. But most of all, I want to thank the readers who boosted The Last Vampire to a category top 10 in Amazon!
As a new, indie author, it was quite a thrill seeing such interest in my book and the amazing true story behind it. I sure hope you enjoy it!
And, of course, if you missed the launch day, you can get The Last Vampire wherever books are sold and at libraries! But, even if this book is not the type of book you read, thank you for making my launch such a success and such fun!

The Last Vampire Launches!
Today is launch day for my newest book, The Last Vampire!
There are many great vampire books out there...only one is true,
The Last Vampire is a true story based on the life and deaths of Mercy Brown, the last person documented to have been suspected of being a vampire during the New England vampire panic of the late 18th and 19th centuries.
This is an historical fiction with strong paranormal elements and some horror, but I tried not to deviate too far from the historical record.
There are few explanations for how an event like this could have taken place in the Gay Nineties, so deep into the modern world and the industrial age. A case of mass hysteria may have swept up the residents of a small, Rhode Island town who, acting upon fear, suspicion and superstition, believed a teenage girl from their community had returned as a vampire. The only plausible alternative explanation is that those who knew here, who were there when her body was exhumed and who examined her corpse, were correct.
There really is no third alternative.
I hope you will enjoy this real-life Gothic horror story which befell a New England family 130 years ago. If this sounds like the kind of book to immerse yourself in on a cold, winter's night, you can get your paperback or e-book wherever books are sold.

Writing and Music
Music is so powerful it has the power to come through on the pages of books. A song can set a mood, convey emotion, or just set up a time, a place. A party conveys certain images in your mind, but when you add what song is playing, the party comes alive. When playing "Under the Boardwalk," the party has a completely different vibe than one playing "Family Tradition."
Music plays a small but crucial role in The Last Vampire. Set in the 1890s, before popular music reached the heights of the mid-20th Century, I chose to include some church hymns at strategic spots. A familiar Stephen Foster song sets the mood for a particularly poignant scene. In fact, I had no idea how to write that particular scene until the song came to me--then, it virtually wrote itself.
My next two books rely far more on music. Written out of the timeline order, one is set in the late 1980s, a heyday for music capable of transporting you to that time and the places where particular songs were played. While writing, I played Goth and heavy metal from the specific time the events were taking place. Many of these songs found a place in the story, while others were useful in setting the mood.
As I completed editing the second book in the series, set in the late 1940s, I discovered the SiriusXM station "40s Junction," which provided an apt backdrop to the story and created a mood that helped me work out a few details. I was familiar with some of the music from the day, having enjoyed the Big Band since my father played it when I was growing up, but it virtually transported me to a different time as I worked through the manuscript.
I hope to have some playlists to go along with these books, so stay tune for future developments along those lines. And if you use music in your writing or to set a mood when you read, let me know! I would be very interested in your opinions on the subject of music and the written word!

Sharkano Narrated Prologue is on YouTube
Writing is new for me.
So is narration!
After several of my friends suggested it, I recorded a narrated version of the prologue of Sharkano last week, which is now up on YouTube.
Let me tell you, this was something different. I never realized how many stumbles I make while reading! Not wanting to hear corrections, I kept trying until I got it right. I hope you enjoy it.
If you do--you can read the rest for yourself. Sharkano is FREE on Kindle Unlimited, and available on Amazon if you don't have KU.

Sharkano Launches!
Sharkano
SHARKANO is here!
A YA adventure / horror novel set in Hawaii, SHARKANO tells the story of Lexi Law and her summer spent with her father, Dr. Burke Law, a volcanologist. What she expects to be a tropical vacation at the beach is instead spent atop a dormant volcano. There, she sees what no one believes is possible.
A shark.
I never intended to write this as a novel. SHARKANO began as a screenplay several years ago. But after writing it, it became clear I knew much less about getting a movie made than I had about writing. So, SHARKANO gathered dust. I nearly forgot about it and moved on to other projects.
When the pandemic hit, severely disrupting my work as an attorney, it offered some time to concentrate on my writing. That's when my old, dusty screenplay came to mind. After rereading it, I realized the story worked as well for a novel as it did a screenplay. The only way I could make it work, though, was as a YA novel. Not long afterward, Solstice Publishing offered to pick it up, and now SHARKANO is a reality!
I hope you will enjoy reading it. It is intended to be fun and inspiring for teenage readers, but I put enough in there to keep adults interested, as well.
Let me know what you think if it!
