A crisis at Hastinapur
When Amba walked out of Hastinapur everyone forgot about her. The two new queens, Ambika and Ambalika were beautiful, young, and fun-loving. King Vichitravirya was enamored with his new brides. Amba the beautiful princess was gone, replaced by a gaunt angry woman searching for vengeance. In the early days, people tried to help her and advised her to give up and live a normal life. Growing up in what was then Bombay, Christmas was a much looked forward to festival for me.
There would be lighting and decorations at the houses of my Christian friend and the nearby church. The decorations at most houses would be a lantern shaped like a star and a few colored lights strung together. The decorations during Diwali at our houses would also be the same. Shiva and Parvati, the importance of women.
Loss is terrible, it is a burden difficult to bear. We often retreat from the world to cope with loss. Our friends and family then rally around and try to bring us back to life.
Shiva had lost his beloved wife Sati, who had jumped into the sacrificial fire of her father Daksha.

Amba was young and still naive. She had been hurt by the men she loved the most, her lover and her father. She missed her mother. She felt that Queen Satyavati would understand her pain.
Queen Satyavati was happy, the girl had come back. Now she could be married off to Vichitravirya and the chances of an heir would go up. She could also use it to shame the King of Kashi and Shalva Kumara when required. She knew the popular opinion was in favor of Amba.
