Life in Spain

Autumn has arrived

After 52 consecutive days of the temperature being over 40 degrees here in the Andalucían mountains of Spain, we didn’t mind the arrival of autumn. That is of course for the first week. Then, as Brits do, we began complaining about how cold it is. When I moved to Spain I didn’t realise the temperature goes down to -5 degrees during the winter. Though it is nice to be able to go out for a long walk without losing half a stone in weight and returning home dragging our feet like a cast member from ‘The walking dead’.

Heather, my wife and I, decided to take advantage of the cool breeze and thought a game of tennis would be a good idea. Her questions of “Which is my bat?” and “Who deals first?” made me think this perhaps wasn’t the best idea, but the exercise was good. Although the aches and pains the next day reminded me what a cruel task master old age can be.

Realising we should really be getting more exercise, next week we are going to look at buying a couple of bicycles. So if you are driving through the mountains of Southern Spain over the next few months, and just happen to pass a couple of oldies taking their bikes for a walk, give us a wave.
