EXCERPT – Seeking Redemption

Grandma O flipped the light switch to what she called my office and stood just inside the door, her soft features and gentle smile inviting me in. I shivered, poised one step away, with a strange yet familiar emotion rushing through me—an awareness that the instant I entered, my life would be forever changed. Again.

Was this Matthew’s plan all along? They all seemed in on it, the thought making me feel railroaded and agitated, yet oddly aroused and enchanted too. Unsure how to deal with such conflicting emotions, I moved forward, looking to Grandma O for answers as I walked through.

The office was spacious, slightly smaller than Matthew’s, with a mahogany desk in the far corner and in front of an expansive bank of floor-to-ceiling windows. I ran my fingertips along the colorful wall of psychology books and periodicals as I walked along, passing a leather couch on my way to the desk, my desk, and paused in front of an empty nook within the bookcase.

It struck me as odd, the cold wooden surface needing something to spruce it up, make it mine. I had to think about that, my anxiety making it difficult to ponder the issue, my restlessness preventing me from staying in one place.

I moved to the windows and stared out the tiny cracks between the blinds, the world outside just as complicated as the one I had chosen to live in.

“We all read your master’s thesis,” Grandma O said, her voice pulling me out of my thoughts. “It’s obvious you have a natural gift for research and writing.”

I turned and looked at her, questioning how they’d gotten their hands on a copy.

Sedation in the ICU: Patient Accounts of Their Dreams, Their Pain, Their Fears; I hadn’t published it. As it was, after countless hours revisiting old charts and conducting hundreds of interviews, I’d never been more nervous or scared the instant it was pulled from my tight grip to be placed into the hands of someone who would actually read it. There was no way I’d ever publish it, opening myself up to a world filled with critics.

“If you’re wondering, Dr. Moi is a personal friend of Professor Marienetti. The sexual fantasies accounted for and described within your research were fascinating, probably more so than Dr. Marienetti could digest. We’re baffled as to why you chose not to publish. The results, Jess, are far reaching, from ICUs to dentists’ offices. You have a special gift; embrace it.”

She walked toward me and leaned her back against the wall, her gaze drinking in the room.

“This office has been vacant, just waiting for you. You could do great things here.” She patted my arm, her grandmotherly smile telling me it would all be okay. “I’m next door if you need anything.”

Embrace it, I thought, watching as she walked out the door. I’d heard that advice before—from Matthew. I sighed and looked down upon the desk, the one I knew would take me a while to start calling my own.

My desk, my office, my couch, it all sounded quite foreign. I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not.

Spotlight: Victoria Adams and A Guy and A Girl

VA-AGaaG-AmazonMy special guest today is Canadian author Victoria Adams with her book A GUY AND A GIRL. She writes “romance for romantics 17 yrs and older.”

Do you use a pen name and how did you decide on it?

I played with several names and found a couple I liked the sound of. I sent those names to my cps (critique partners) and they agreed that the one on the top of the list was best.

Do you have a muse?

Do I have a muse?? I don’t think so. My stories stem from my creativity. I get an idea and run with it. If I’m too busy with life, my creativity goes into hibernation until I can find the time to sit and put fingers on keyboard.

Are you an outliner, a write by the seat of your pants author, or a combination?

A bit of both. Generally I let the characters go where they want the story to go, but they often run themselves into a corner that I have to figure out how to get them out of. To help out, my outline is like

C1 (chapter one) – she meets him in store

C2 – he is annoyed with her and storms out

C3 – they bump into each other at party

How did you come up with your title?

I wrote A GUY AND A GIRL a long time ago. It’s been sitting on my hard drive waiting its turn. I had to update it, adding things like cell phones. But when I originally wrote it I was stuck for a title. I asked my daughter, 14-ish, for some help. When she asked what the story was about, I replied –A GUY AND A GIRL.

The title just stuck.

What was your favorite scene in this book?

The strip club scene. A friend of the heroine, Chelsea, takes her to a strip club. It turns out the hero, Hunter, works there part time. While Chelsea is interested in Hunter, the reader discovers the friend is too. The part of the scene where Hunter is on stage with a female stripper is also fun.

Now for the fun stuff about the book A GUY AND A GIRL.

BLURB – A GUY AND A GIRL

After an ugly past forced Hunter Connolly to escape to Europe, the talented hockey player is back in North America and determined to land a position with a professional team. But he can’t hide from his past forever, especially when his beautiful classmate, Chelsea, forces him to reexamine his life. Soon, hockey is not his first priority anymore.

Chelsea Henderson is a bright co-ed working towards her dream of being a professional dancer. She forms a unique friendship with one of her father’s newest recruits and would love nothing more than to take it to the next level. However, there’s just one small problem. He doesn’t know she’s his coach’s daughter.

Amid the deceptions, danger lurks closer than they could ever imagine. Will fate contrive to rip the young lovers apart? Or will Hunter and Chelsea have their shot at love?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m Victoria Adams. I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband and pets. Daughter’s grown up and is now teaching. I like to garden, cook and belly dance. In the summer, cars slow down when they pass my front yard and the passengers gaze at my flower beds. Friends love to be invited over for supper as the meal is going to be good, good for you and nowhere near low-calorie! No dieting allowed at dinner parties. As to belly dancing, find a class and try it. It’s a blast!

I’ve been writing since I was little. Being an only child, long car rides were filled with making up stories in my head about the people I saw out the car window. When my daughter was younger, I made up stories that she suggested. I’d say – Once upon a time there was a…. She’d shout an answer – chicken! And the story went from there. Great creativity exercise as it turns out. Now, my writing style has taken a split to contemporary romance for adults and contemporary romance for new adults.

Melanie Greene and the Roll of the Dice Series

MelGreene 2I am delighted to have Melanie Greene on my blog today promoting her Roll of the Dice Series, which includes ROCKET MAN and READY TO ROLL.

GIVEAWAY DETAILS – Roll of the Dice Series

Melanie is giving away three sets of her audiobooks – both Rocket Man and Ready to Roll – to randomly chosen commenters, so be sure to say hi below! Winners will be chosen on 4/14.

MELANIE ON AUDIOBOOKS:

My love of romance novels and my love of audiobooks began around the same time: when I had hours alone in my office every day, processing numbers. I’m not sure if science is still behind all that right brain – left brain stuff I learned as a kid (my own kid is currently getting a degree in cognitive science, so I suppose I could ask…), but I am sure that working with invoices and reports all day wasn’t always as entertaining as you might think.

So I started listening to audiobooks. And very quickly discovered that listening to romance made the workday fly by! Also very quickly discovered that headphones were important. J

The more I listened, the more I began to devour romance above all the other types of books I read. And it wasn’t long before my writing followed suit. All through the process of writing, editing, and publishing, I held this glittering idea in my head: one day, my own books would be available in audio, maybe even helping to entertain the right brains of other accounting-types as they get through their work days.

And that day has arrived! I was thrilled that one of my favorite narrators ever, Amy Rubinate, agreed to read Rocket Man and Roll of the Dice. She did a stellar job, and I’m proud to share these productions with your readers.

Thanks for hosting me here today!

MelanieGreene_RocketMan_AudioBLURB – ROCKET MAN – From the Roll of the Dice Series

Serena Colby wants one thing. Dillon Hamilton wants everything.

Steady, focused graphic artist Serena has her life perfectly planned out. After a childhood being moved from one place to another, she craves the permanence of a home that’s hers and hers alone. And everything is lining up just right. That is, until disruptive copywriter Dillon comes blasting into her workplace and spins her personal life out of control.

Serena tries to draw boundaries, but the gorgeous Dillon has a much sexier script for their lives in mind. He’s pulled towards Serena’s orbit, quickly ranking her sexiest skirts and memorizing the scent of her locally sourced organic shampoo. Serena struggles to remain unmoved by Dillon’s kinetic charm, even as she relishes their chats about their mutual passion, the Houston Rockets.

Though order-loving Serena shies away from Dillon’s messy complications, she can’t escape her fantasies. When Dillon’s determined pursuit leaves Serena breathless, it might just be ‘all systems are go’ for Rocket Man.

Aggrieved, Dillon kicked his townhouse’s front door closed and scooped up the calico kitten making a beeline for the exit. “No, you don’t,” he warned it, before slinging it over his shoulder and heading into the kitchen for a cold beer. “I’m having more than enough trouble with females today; I don’t need you adding to the mix.” Setting Maisy down on the sofa and taking a long pull, he finally sighed. “Okay, okay, so it’s not your fault. And I can hardly blame Anica, she’s right about the tear sheets.” Maisy reached a paw up to bat at his fingers, unfazed by his suddenly morose tone. “But what the hell is going on with Serena?”

It just didn’t make sense. Serena was one of the most straightforward people he knew. Even before he’d started at Lanigan, she’d shown herself to be honest about everything—from work issues to the interpersonal. But lately he couldn’t get a read on her at all. She was her usual vibrant self half the time, backing away from him the other half. It just didn’t add up.

“Is it me?” he asked the kitten, who blinked and looked away. “I just … I kinda thought things were ….” He took another pull on the beer, then had to laugh. He couldn’t even articulate his feelings to his sister’s cat. No wonder Serena was acting strangely. He was probably feeding her all kinds of assbackwards signals himself, and she didn’t know how to react.

How did he feel, though? He shed his jacket, which Maisy promptly started kneading and purring upon, and headed back to the kitchen to throw together some sort of dinner. “Pasta night,” he called to the kitten, which ignored him. “Did I talk to myself before you showed up?” he asked it. “I can’t seem to keep my mouth shut at home anymore. But as long as you’re listening, check it out, ‘kay? Here I’ve known Serena for weeks. And don’t get me wrong, I noticed her right off, you know? Second I walked into the interview, as a matter of fact. But I always thought you’ve got to keep that stuff out of the office.” He bit into a carrot and glanced back at Maisy, who was now asleep. “Fine. Ignore me.”

He had kept it out of the office, and over time had stopped—okay, practically stopped—looking for Serena as soon as he got to work. Stopped cataloguing the many enticing ways she wore her hair, stopped half-memorizing her schedule, stopped asking her out. Almost stopped, anyway. And they worked closely together; he couldn’t go more than a few hours without having to at least shoot an email to Serena, if not engage in some more substantial contact.

Substantial contact. Face it, that was what he wanted.

MelanieGreene_ReadyToRoll_AudioBLURB – READY TO ROLL – From the Roll of the Dice Series

Janice Newton avoids close ties by directing all her energy toward her job and using her well-developed defense system to keep everyone, especially the coworker she secretly craves, at arm’s length. But will her fear of reopening old wounds keep her from a relationship with the one person who sees through her tough exterior and into her vulnerable heart?

Miguel Rosas has developed a strategy of his own: one that should tumble Janice’s walls, if only he can execute it. A burning dinner, intrusive relatives, and a secret from his past conspire to keep his plans half baked, though he’s determined to get things sizzling.

This standalone novella featuring characters from Melanie Greene’s Rocket Man brings Janice and Miguel together for a long-anticipated date that threatens to become an epic disaster. Little does Miguel know that the very problems he’s trying to quell provide the insights that finally make Janice ready to roll.

Miguel’s other arm was a vise around her waist and the hand was anchoring her pelvis so Janice’s entire body was wedged against his. It should have been uncomfortable, being literally off-balance and with her limbs turned every which way like she’d lost all semblance of control over them. Which maybe she had. But it wasn’t uncomfortable.

Which sure as shit made Janice uncomfortable.

Miguel’s solidity made her uncomfortable. The ease with which he was suddenly putting his hands just wherever the ever-loving hell he wanted to, after they worked side by side for half a decade, practically never touching, made her uncomfortable. The clean soap and musk cologne scent of him made her uncomfortable.

His handsome face that was like coming home, familiar and welcoming. His elegant, eloquent eyebrows. His full lips, smooth and firm, and not in the least tentative against hers. It all made her uncomfortable.

So totally uncomfortable.

Janice’s nerves were squirming up and down her body like freshly hatched tadpoles. It wasn’t right, this feeling so right when she was fighting off another sneeze and her hand was cramping up against her aching breast and her pelvis was hosting a congregation of little tadpoles. They were squirming like mad down there.

And Miguel stopped kissing her, and then Janice was really, really uncomfortable.

MelGreene 2Melanie Greene is a native Houstonian. She began writing at an early age, though her stories about unfortunate dogs and impish girls who use firecrackers unsupervised have been (mostly) lost in the mists of time. She’s a voracious reader, huge audiobook fan, and generally has an overflowing bedside table full of books she can’t wait to read next. Of course her favorite genre is romance!

Melanie’s greatest pleasure is in creating characters who feel like friends, then giving them some (or several!) challenges to overcome on the way to Happily Ever After. Check out her smart, sassy, sizzling contemporary romances.

Melanie shares her life with her own hometown hunk of a husband and children so amazing they defy superlatives.

Martha O’Sullivan and the Chances Trilogy

Today I am welcoming Martha O’Sullivan to my blog to talk about her CHANCES trilogy from Red Sage Publishing.

second chance cov    chance encounter covlast chance cov

BLURB- CHANCES trilogy

Second Chance, the trilogy opener, is a reunion/love triangle romance that keeps the shores of Lake Tahoe blazing hot long after the sultry summer sun has set. Chance Encounter, the trilogy’s second installment, heats up San Francisco’s chilly days and blustery nights with white-hot passion and pulse-pounding suspense. And in Last Chance, the conclusion of the trilogy, lifelong friends-turned-lovers melt the snow-packed Sierras into lust-fueled puddles despite the single-digit temperatures of the Lake Tahoe winter.

BLURB – CHANCE ENCOUNTER

In Second Chance, star-crossed lovers Brian Rembrandt and Lindsay Foster get a second chance at love. And their wedding beneath the twinkling stars of Lake Tahoe serves as the perfect backdrop for another match made in heaven. But it’s more complicated than that…

The last thing Delaney Richards was looking for at college roommate Lindsay Foster’s wedding was love. The long hours at the office were finally paying off–she could all but feel the vice-presidency in her bones. And she was counting on this week in San Francisco to seal the deal. But first she had to get through the wedding–Delaney’s first since her own. Almost wedding, that is. You can’t have a wedding without a groom.

Renowned ladies’ man Mike Savoy hadn’t counted on seeing devastatingly beautiful Delaney Richards again at his best friend’s wedding in Tahoe, let alone find himself falling in love with her. Now he has to convince her the feeling is mutual–and unfailing. But the past can be a killer. And the only way Mike can ensure a future with Delaney is to push her away. But when blackmail turns to ransom, Mike is the only one who can save her. To survive, Delaney must trust the heart that once betrayed her.

EXCERPT (R) – CHANCE ENCOUNTER

Mike watched Delaney’s eyes sweep the repetitive-hued room, then the terrace. The double doors were open, allowing the breeze to raise the curtains puddling on the Gainsboro-colored carpeting. Beyond the silhouette of the city was framed in black filigree.

“You wanted a balcony,” he reminded her smugly.

She turned to him in openmouthed wonder, then walked through the living room and outside. Her fingertips brushed the back of the cushions on the wrought iron chairs as she made her way to the railing. “I don’t know what to say.”

He followed her. “Say you’ll stay here with me tonight.”

She studied him in bewilderment, as if the question was absurd. “Of course I’ll stay here with you. I’ll go anywhere with you.”

Because she loved and trusted him, he inwardly amazed. He brought her hands to his lips and kissed them. “I know how hard it is for you to trust someone again. I won’t let you down, I promise.” He hesitated, then decided the time had come. “I love you, Laney.”

He watched her eyes fill and mouth tighten as she bit back the tears. Then she choked, “I love you, too. I love you so much.  And I’m so scared.”

Mike let out an overdue breath. “So am I. I’ve never loved anyone before.”

“Neither have I.”

He jolted back a little, nonplussed.

She shook her head from side to side purposefully. “That wasn’t real love. I know that now. That part of me didn’t exist before you.” She fell into him and the tears sprung from her eyes, dotting the collar of his white shirt.

Looking upward, he gave silent thanks. Then he said, “And as if that isn’t enough, my family loved you too.”

He felt her collective sigh. “They did?”

“Yes, of course. Why wouldn’t they?”

“For one thing, I was worried about was being compared to the other women in your life.”

“That’s impossible. There’s no one for them to compare you to. Not that they would anyway. My family isn’t like—”

“I didn’t mean that way,” Delaney demurred.

“Let me finish, please.” Suddenly agitated, he raked a hand through his hair and began to pace on the tiny terrace. “There is no one for them to compare you to because I’ve never introduced them to someone like you before. Occasionally I’ve brought a woman, a date, a friend, to family gatherings, but never the same woman twice. Sometimes we wouldn’t even stay the evening, let alone,” he glanced at his watch and confirmed his suspicions, “until midnight.”

She started to say something, but he thwarted it with his palm. “You’re right. There have been many women in my life, in my bed. Very few have met my family. None of whom I’ve given jewelry, missed when we’re apart for a few hours, thought about constantly, and rearranged my schedule for.” He returned to her. “And most importantly, loved.”

Her eyes were shining, dancing now. “You rearranged your schedule?”

Mike was beside himself. “Out of all that, the schedule was what you got?”

“No. I got the loved part at the end.”

“Laney,” he whispered with jagged breath. “Of course they loved you. I knew they would. What’s not to love?”

She laughed away the words. “Oh, I can think of a few things.”

“I can only think of one.”

Dismay replaced the goodwill in her eyes and her brow crinkled. “You can?”

“Yeah,” he declared evenly. “Loving each other isn’t enough for me.”

He watched the color drain from her face. “It’s not?”

“No.” He raised their joined hands. “I want you to belong to me. I want to belong to you too.”

“I do.” She tripped over the words. “I thought you already did.”

“I mean for good.” He stoked her cheek with the back of his fingers, knowing he’d been sure all along. “I mean forever. Can you see yourself loving me forever?”

She gasped, and with a measured nod managed, “Can you see yourself loving me forever?”

“I know I can. I know I want to. I want to make love to you tonight and every night for the rest of my life. You and only you.”

She seemed to believe him for the first time. “I want that too,” she gushed. “I could never be with another man now. I couldn’t bear for you to touch someone else.”

“I won’t,” he promised, cradling her chin in his hands. “Ever. I’m not asking you tonight. I won’t rush you. I just needed to know if—”

She quieted his lips with her forefinger. “The answer is yes. Whether you ask me tonight or ten thousand nights from now.”

Indescribably happy, Mike tasted her tears, then rested his forehead against hers. “That will have to wait until I can ask you properly. However,” his mouth found hers again and began to feed, “there is something I can ask you tonight.”

She tilted her head back as he showered her throat with kisses. “Hmm. What would that be?”

“I want to taste you. I want you to taste me too.”

That seemed to surprise, then intrigue her. She righted her head and found his gaze with wide eyes. “You can do anything you want to me.” Her tone was dark and full of challenge. “I’m yours, remember?”

He could do nothing but mumble her name, willing his moral compass to hold steady.

Her ensuing words made that nearly impossible. “You’ll be the first man to touch me that way. Now I wish you were the only man to touch me at all.”

Mike swallowed the shock and wondered if she could feel him hardening behind the zipper. “As long as I’m the last.”

She responded by silently backing up into the bedroom and reaching behind her. A second later the dress fell to the floor. “I’ve been waiting all night to show you what’s under my dress.”

He supposed the foghorns still boomed from the bridge, the seals continued to bark on the pier, the cars buzzed along on the street below. But Mike’s mind discounted all that. In his head, his hands were already running down Delaney’s tawny shoulders. They lingered at the curve of her breasts before pausing on her svelte waist and then resting on her willowy hips.

And his cock wasn’t far behind.

He shut the French doors behind him and loosened his collar.  “I’ve been waiting all night to see what’s under your dress.”

“I told you,” she tantalized. “Didn’t you believe me?”

He cast aside his suit coat. “Oh, I believed you. That’s why I’ve been waiting all night.”

By mid-stride, he felt himself being yanked under her spell. By the time he reached her, his hands felt claw-like against the buttons of his shirt. Hers, on the other hand, were as agile as a cat’s. “You seemed oddly patient.” She wended her slender fingers down the shirt, holding him with a wolfish smile all the while. “I was beginning to wonder.”

“You’ll never have to wonder about that.” Tipping point reached and passed, he grabbed her wrists. “If I’d had my way, I would’ve taken you in the elevator.” He ripped the shirt off before she could finish, busting the two bottom buttons in the process. He made quick work of his pants, then lassoed her waist. Seizing her mouth, he straddled her to his middle. Her delta felt as hot and wet as her mouth tasted.

And he couldn’t wait to prove it.

He carried her to the bed and laid her down. Her breath caught in her throat when she saw his burgeoning erection. Wholehearted superlatives echoed on her lips as she extended her arms, inviting his wielding body to hers.

Suddenly Mike didn’t know what to do with his eyes, his hands, his mouth. He was still trying to collect himself when Delaney entreated in a concerned whisper. “Mike, come to me.”

“Not until you cum first,” he decided out loud.  Kneeling, he pried her creamy legs apart and pressed his ravenous mouth to her triangle. He burrowed his face into her buttery pleats and began to lick. Long, lazy strokes at first, then short, quick ones. Rabid now, he couldn’t get enough of her sweet poison.

And the feeling was clearly mutual.

Her head shot up like a piston as he began devouring her. The rest of her fell back on the bed, allowing him access to all her folds. Her fingers curled the bed sheets as his tongue explored her every crease and crevice of her fleshy core.

With excruciating precision.

He felt her begin to unravel even before his name was audible. Stitch by stich he took her higher until, her spindle barren, she broke free. Her flailing hands froze in his hair as she surrendered to his unspoken pleas. Drenching him and quaking, she purred and peaked, nearly taking him with him.

Kissing his way, Mike rested his head on her stomach. Her pulse was quickening in her abdomen and the shallow breaths in her chest were strangulated. She was still reeling in the orgasm, he self-congratulated.  And he was still wallowing in giving it to her.

Her eyes fluttered open. “That was amazing.” Her voice was blissfully exhausted. “I loved it.”

He crawled up to her. “I loved tasting every inch of you,” he told her around a gallant kiss.

Returning the sentiment, she eased him aside and started shimmying down the king-size bed.  “Now let me return the favor.”

“Laney.” He caught her arm. “I won’t last long.”

“Good.” She left him with a naughty nod. His cock was leaking readiness and she used it to bring him to her. She gripped him at the base of his throbbing shaft and took all of him in her mouth. Then she began to suck.

Her prepossessing mouth was like a finely-tuned machine. Her cheeks hollowed out, her lips clenched, her fingers joggled.

And Mike’s body went slack for the want.

His groans filled the air as she engorged him. He felt his midsection jolt forward, his neck snap back, his eyes roll in his head. It was a titillation like he’d never known. And it was the only thing that could rival being inside her.

And still she sucked.

He could feel the pressure intensifying, the meter pounding, the flow building.  He was already hard enough to make love to her. It was now or never.

After a brief internal debate, he tapped her head.

She slithered up to him with a contented smile and fiery eyes.

He positioned her on her side next to him and entered her from behind. Their low growls merged into a hedonic moan as the tip of him met her saturated cavern. Pressing his palms against her breasts, Mike bent his knees and pushed against her. She encircled his neck with her arms and they fell into an instinctual, mellifluous rhythm. Back and forth they swayed, her head tucked into the groove of his shoulder and the small of her back grinding against his stomach. He heard her baiting breaths against his cheek, her burning appeals in his ear. And just as he felt the judder of her orgasm, he drained himself into her.

EXCERPT – Seeking Love

One thing I knew: I wasn’t that woman anymore. I wouldn’t be her anymore.

My heart was racing at the thought of being separated from Matthew by only the door, and I watched as it opened, knowing he stood mere feet away. I drew in a deep breath to calm my frantic nerves and steady my racing heart. It was the moment my eyes would see him again, and the same moment I knew all involuntary muscle movements would cease.

As Matthew stepped in and around the door, his alluring eyes captured me. The feeling was nothing new. I’d been imprisoned by his gaze before. And locked in it again, I watched as he drifted to me, the indisputable chemistry between us palpable and absolute. His mesmerizing eyes had hypnotized my burning soul, completely bewitching me.

“Hello, Jessica,” he murmured, pointing to an open area of the bed. “Mind if I sit?”

I gave a slight shake of my head, having difficulty forming the simple word “no,” and watched as he made himself comfortable facing me. His crisp charcoal-colored trousers bunched as he scooted on the bed. My sight roamed along his classic plum-colored dress shirt and stopped searching once I focused on his face.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

authorpicJM Maurer lives with her family in Chicago. She makes it a point to never work on a full moon and cringes when a coworker uses the “Q” word—never, ever say, “It’s a quiet day today,” at her day job.

Known for being overly superstitious, she can usually be found scraping at the remnants of a Nutella container, screaming at a hockey game, or putting pen to paper, allowing the “real” crazy voices in her head to come alive. And after all this, it’s no wonder she’s an incurable romantic and loves escaping the rat race of life to immerse herself inside the world of a really good romance book . . . because, after all, what’s better than a happily-ever-after?

BLURB: The Marshal’s Rebellious Bride by Starla Kaye

Whiskey, the mischievous imp of Dodge City, thought it was bad enough for her brothers to sell their shares of her father’s ranch to their US Marshal friend, Morgan, but what was even worse was that those men all had it in mind that Whiskey would actually marry Morgan–this hard, firm, large man she had barely met before.

Morgan thought Whiskey just needed a firm hand to keep her in line, but Whiskey, who is constantly getting tied up dangerous situations, was nearly impossible to control. Things get even more complicated when her twin sister comes into town.

But Morgan has a dark shadow following in his path, threatening the peaceful life he meant to create with Whiskey. Will they come through this together? Or will Morgan’s past bring tragedy on everything he now holds dear?

BLURB: Kayla and the Rancher by Paige Tyler

Cord Holderness needs a wife, but with few prospects in the Wyoming Territory, the only way to find a well-bred young lady is to get a mail-order bride. However, the girl that’s supposed to be his bride gets cold feet and leaves it up to her new friend, Kayla Mathison, to tell him that she’s changed her mind.

When the handsome rancher assumes that the fiercely independent and stubborn Kayla is his mail-order bride, she finds herself going along with it. Running from an arranged marriage herself, she decides to lead Cord on so she can steal the money she needs from him. As the days turn into weeks, she finds that the money doesn’t interest her anymore, especially when Cord puts her over his knee and spanks her whenever she becomes a little too willful for his liking. Much to her surprise, she discovers that she’s fallen in love with him.

Life on the ranch gets even more complicated when a ruthless land baron tries to take over every piece of grazing land in the territory, including Cord’s, and will do anything to get it. Then, as if that weren’t enough, Kayla’s very determined fiancé comes to town looking for her. But Kayla has built this relationship with Cord by letting him think that she’s someone else. Can she hope that Cord loves her enough to forgive her when he find out she’s not really his mail-order bride?

BLURB: Mail Order Mama by Courage Knight

Morgan gazed out of the stagecoach window, struggling to keep her disappointment from showing. She’d traveled hundreds of miles to marry a man she had never met before – a widower with five children, a hundred and sixty acres, and a flock of sheep. It had sounded so romantic once, before the dirty, dusty reality sprawled before her in all its fetid glory. She scanned the crowd, wondering which of the paunchy, balding men would claim her.

None of them, apparently. Mr. John O’Shea was nowhere to be seen. What’s more, the townspeople try to convince her to leave, to give up her dreams without even meeting her intended. They believe he’s not quite right in the head. Undaunted, she hires a driver to take her to his homestead.

But when she finally meets the man who sent the poetic letters and fare for her passage, her dreams are shattered, for John O’Shea is little more than a child himself. Had she come all this way for nothing? Would she ever be a bride, or was it her destiny to be a mail-order mama?

BLURB: Depths of Desire by Carolyn Faulkner

A bright, adventurous young woman dreams of travelling to the Western frontier, but in the late 1800s, young women were expected to be neither bright nor adventurous. Despite the contentedness she sees in her mother, whom she knows is spanked by her father, Mary Rose thinks she’s looking for independence and the opposite of what her parents have.

Heroes come in strange packages and she’s not long there before a rough-seeming package finds reason to put her over his knee. Once she realizes he was right, she’s faced with a strange compulsion for someone -and something- she thought she’d never want.

Teaser from Leslie McKelvey

Today I’m sharing a book teaser from my fellow Black Velvet Seductions author Leslie McKelvey. You won’t want to miss reading this book. RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME is Book 2 in the Accidental Encounters series.

From Leslie McKelvey…

right place right time lulu.inddHere’s an excerpt from my new release, RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME.

His heartbeat was steady and strong against her back, and she sent a silent prayer heavenward. Please, please, please let him be a good guy or, at least, not another bad guy. When she tried to move he tightened his hold on her waist, his lips near her ear.

“Not yet. They may double back.”

Beth jumped when a shout cut through the woods like an axe.

“Do you see her?”

“No!”

The voices were close, too close, and she hunched back against him. Fear filled her in a cold, dark surge, but his presence was strangely comforting. Even when the three men joined up mere feet away he remained silent and motionless, seemingly unaffected by their proximity and their weapons. She fought the urge to turn and bury her face against the man’s chest, as if doing so would infuse her with his apparent calm. Her pulse neared heart attack range. She stared at the gun-wielding thugs and tried to regulate her breathing.
