Book launch
The Doylestown Bookshop is the social hub of the borough of Doylestown.
It's my hometown bookstore and I can think of no better place to launch Shanghai Faithful than this locally-owned shop.

For China hands of my generation, I'd venture to bet that you have Orville Schell's "To Get Rich is Glorious" on your bookshelf. I know it had a huge impact on me as cub reporter at The Inquirer.
So it is a true honor to have Mr. Schell endorse my book, saying:
"...a beautifully written elegy to that generation of foreign educated, humanist and often Christian Chinese who had begun to form a cosmopolitan class in China that was comfortable on both sides of the East/West divide and might have successfully led China from its cultural traditionalism into modernity. Instead, this class was savagely persecuted and then erased by Mao and his revolution, thus creating tens of thousands of family stories as heart-rendingly tragic as this one."

This is my first blog post on Goodreads. In 20 days, my family memoir comes out. It's been a labor of love spanning nearly four decades. My father called my book project "my obsession" and he's right. It took over my life in the last two years.
