Sabbath Bloggy Sabbath

As my Saturday's are so busy, I'm changing my blog day to Sunday (not that Sunday is any less busy).
This week's status update - more writing. I skipped an update last week as I was expecting a phone call from California on the Saturday. That didn't happen. I did have the call on Sunday though. Long story short, I still can't finalise and release Blood of a Guardian.
That brings me to the meat of this week's update. My fantasy novel is in the final stages of editing, ready for a December release, and I'm about 25k words through my next crime-thriller. I'm finding it difficult to squeeze in any writing time since starting a new job, but I'm confident I can get it finished this year, even if it isn't released until January. To do that, I'm going to stop typing here and go back to typing in my manuscript.
Enjoy what's left of the weekend.

Pet Hates

If there’s one phrase in the English language that frustrates me more than any other it’s ‘you were’.
At first glance, there’s nothing wrong with the phrase. Sure, it can be used as an accusation, e.g. ‘you were the Chosen One!’, but that’s not my issue with the phrase. The thing that annoys me about ‘you were’ is mathematical.
How many people are you addressing? ‘You were’ is plural, so how can Anakin be the chosen ONE? As it happens, Anakin was the chosen one. Note, WAS. It isn’t Anakin were the chosen one.
‘I was’, ‘he was’, ‘she was’, ‘you was’, is a logical progression.
So, why do we insist that the singular instance of ‘you’ is expressed in the plural form?
Answer: English is a stupid language.
On a related note, why does ‘you is’ sound so wrong? If we’re looking at individuals, ‘he is’, ‘she is’, ‘you is’, is also a logical progression. Is it because the first-person version is ‘I am’ not ‘I is’?

Fantasy or Thriller?

Another hectic week. Started a new job on Monday (technical author for a software company) so limited writing time.
Took the opportunity to review my workload on Wednesday and decided I need to stop project hopping. As exciting as my new crime thriller is, I need to clear the deck before pressing on. My release schedule now looks like this:
December - The Forecast Ascension (Fantasy/Comedy)
January - New Crime Thriller, name TBD (unless it ends up being longer than I'm expecting it to be)
Of course, last night, I came up with an idea for a horror story.

Farewell to Fantasy

Fortune's Favour, the second novel in my crime/noir/thriller series about crime-busting, paranormal investigator Daniel Myers gets delivered to the e-readers of all my pre-order customers tomorrow. If you haven't bought a copy yet, you can get it here.

I told myself that I would finish editing my fantasy novel once the second Daniel Myers novel was complete. Things did not work out that way. Instead of embarking on said fantasy adventure, I sat down at my computer this week and began writing another crime thriller. Stepping away from the world of Daniel Myers, this one is going to be set in Los Angeles. Given the subject matter, it's likely I'll also be writing this one under my other pen name. More details next week.

New Release

Saturday = blog day
So, what's new for me this week? Having spent the last few weeks writing and editing the second Daniel Myers novella, it's both exciting and relieving to finally have it up for pre-order on amazon.com (or amazon.co.uk for the UK folks).
To celebrate the upcoming release of Fortune's Favour, the first Daniel Myers Novella, Destiny's Demise, will go on sale for £0.99/$0.99 from midday on Sunday 4-Oct (BST for amazon.co.uk, PDT for amazon.com).

New arrival

No, I'm not talking about the second Daniel Myers book. I'm talking about me being a new arrival on Goodreads.

As this is my first blog entry here, I'm going to keep it short. Not because I don't have anything to say (far from it) but because I'm still getting familiar with the site.
Once I'm up and running properly (most of my time is currently focused on getting everything ready for the launch of the second Daniel Myers book), I'll make regular blog entries. Until then, I direct you to my website: https://www.atsienewt.com/writing for more info on the projects I'm working on (on which I'm working?).
