BRIDGET'S GALLERY OF GIRL SPIES THROUGH THE AGES

THE SECRET SEVEN

Or, at least, three of them. Janet(the bossy one), Pam (the goofy one) and Barbara( the party-loving one)) sleuthed alongside Peter, Jack, Colin and George forming a crack unit of posh young detectives who tracked down missing dogs and chased intruders out of their treehouse in Enid Blyton's  series of books set in an indyllic 1950s Britain.

Jack's little sister Susie and her friend Binky regularly mocked, derided and sabotaged The Secret Seven but that was only because of their deep and burning desire to be included in the group's adventures.

BRIDGET'S WORLD OF COOL GADGETS AND WEAPONS

That's just a standard, unexciting black-and-gold tracksuit, you say? You would not make a very good spy because this is, in fact, a nano track suit, programmed with the speed, movements, responses and fighting stances of experienced secret agents.  You may not be particularly fast on your feet, you may not be adept at disabling a gang of bad guys, you may not posess the ability to execute a triple somersault. Doesn't matter: this suit does it all for you. Plus, you know, the black and gold is pleasing to the eye.

BRIDGET'S SPY SONG PLAYLIST

COLDPLAY- SPIES

Coldplay have three speeds: boring-but-catchy. boring-but-pompous, and full-on boring. This is them at their full-on boringest. Which makes it an appropriate song for a spy playlist. While Chris Martin is  causing your eyelids to droop and your mind to turn to mush, it's the perfect opportunity for the smart spy to take advantage of th situation and extract the intel she needs. Stay boring, Coldplay, the intelligence comminity needs you!

BRIDGET'S GALLERY OF GIRL SPIES THROUGH THE AGES

NANCY DREW.

Nancy set the bar high for subsequent generations of young sleuths. She was a wealthy, well-mannered overachiever who never suffered a second of doubt. She was a supernaturally intuitive judge of character, she was an expert at administering first aid, she could drive a car,  shoot an arrow and dance a tango. She was a loyal friend and a supportive girlfriend. She saw through lies and deceit, and never took no for an answer. Nancy Drew is a lot to live up to.

BRIDGET'S WORLD OF COOL GADGETS AND WEAPONS

Lip balm. Something to soothe cracked, painful lips on a punishingly cold morning. Unless you're a spy. Then it's a powerful laser beam capable of slicing through metal like a hot knife through butter. Twist the bottom and it turns into a taser. Twist it again and it belches smoke uncontrollably, but that defect sould be fixed once the beta-testing period is over.

RIP Burt Shavitz, founder of Burt's Bees. His fine product was just intended as an illustration and is not actually a laser beam. Or a taser.

HARRIET THE SPY

No weapons or cool gadgets. No martial arts stances or devastating finishing moves. No clandestine CIA-affilated organization. Just a notebook filled with penetrating observations. Respect to the o.g.

BRIDGET'S WORLD OF COOL GADGETS AND WEAPONS

WHAT IS THIS?

It looks like a random pack of green Tic Tacs. WRONG!!  Obviously, you're not a spy. Otherwise, you'd know that these thirst-quenching suckables  are actually surveillance devices that a smart and resourceful secret agent can utilize to monitor all manner of bad guys, as well as friends and family.

Just when you thought there was no further way your privacy could be invaded, now you have to worry about your behaviour being secretly filmed by a Tic Tac camera.
