Announcing Nessies Nemesis on Kickstarter!

Announcing Nessies Nemesis on Kickstarter!

Some big news today MX Publishing will be releasing my novel Nessies Nemesis this September.  Its the sequel to my 2021 comedic mystery Sherlocks Secretary, this time with the protagonists investigating a mysterious disappearance in Scotland.

Heres the synopsis:

What do an Internet scam, a conference for mystery writers, and "The Great Sausage Scandal" have in common?  They're all connected to the latest adventure of Addy Zhuang an employee of the real-life bank at 221B Baker Street tasked with answering all of the mail that mystery fans send to Sherlock Holmes.  In the sequel to  Sherlock's Secretary, Addy, his true-crime reporter girlfriend Zabel, and his friends Sanna and Jasper travel to Scotland in order to solve a missing persons case connected to a prop from the classic movie The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes.  Pretty soon, Addy and his colleagues are embroiled in a murder mystery, and the main suspect is a nobleman obsessed with one goal: hunting the Loch Ness Monster!

And if youre interested in getting ordering a PDF, paperback, or hardcover copy (signed or unsigned), please check out the Kickstarter for the project!  Its only been up for less than two hours as of this writing, and already were at over 25% of the initial goal!

Thanks to all of the backers so far!

Chris Chans novel Ghosting My Friend was released by Level Best Books on March 28th. His first novel, Sherlocks Secretary, was released by MX Publishing, as was his anthology Of Course He Pushed Him and Other Sherlock Holmes Stories Volumes 1 & 2.  His Agatha-nominated book Murder Most Grotesque: The Comedic Crime Fiction of Joyce Porter was published by Level Best Books.  His first non-fiction book, Sherlock & Irene: The Secret Truth Behind A Scandal in Bohemia is available for sale at Amazon.com and the MX Publishing website, as well as at Book Depository(with free worldwide shipping there).  It is also available in a Kindle edition.

Ghosting My Friend is Out in Paperback!

Ghosting My Friend  is Out in Paperback!

Ghosting My Friend has been released in paperback!  Please take a look!

How far would you go to get justice against the person who stole your deceased childhood friend’s identity?  If you’re Isaiah Funderburke, vengeance will become an obsession. On the cusp of adolescence, Funderburke’s best friend Bertie was killed in a convenience store robbery. The crime was never solved. A decade and a half later, Funderburke is a private detective specializing in divorce work—but thanks to a wealthy benefactor, he only works for the children involved, as he helps expose embezzling divorce lawyers, corrupt judges, and other sinister forces that exploit young people. Every once in a while, he solves other serious crimes. With the assistance of his girlfriend and fellow investigator Nerissa Kaiming, a high school history teacher and former teen mother who now runs a program mentoring girls in similar situations, Funderburke dedicates his life to saving kids who can’t save themselves.

When identity thieves steal Bertie’s name for a credit card fraud, Funderburke’s enraged, and he decides to track down the criminals behind the “ghosting.” Along the way, Funderburke turns up clues connected to Bertie’s murder and tries to find out who killed his friend all those years ago…but digging into the past may threaten his future.

The Butlers Anti-Defamation Society in Mystery Most Traditional

The Butlers Anti-Defamation Society in Mystery Most Traditional

Every year, Malice Domestic releases an anthology of short stories based on a theme at their annual conference.  This year, for the first time, I have a short story in this years anthology Mystery Most Traditional.  As I came up with an idea for the story, I considered, whats the most famous line in traditional whodunits?  I immediately thought of the phrase The butler did it.  So what happens when butlers take offense to what they see as a stereotype that paints them as violent killers?  And what happens when theres a murder at one of their meetings, and all of the suspects are butlers?

Agatha Christie Playing Cards

Agatha Christie Playing Cards

Do you enjoy playing cards, but realize that something's missing? Have you ever played poker with friends, only to discover that the game just isn't murdery enough for you? Have you ever played gin for the rent money in the smoke-filled back room of a seedy tavern at 3AM and wished you were on a cruise down the Nile or aboard the Orient Express? If you answered "yes" to one or more of these questions, then you need these new Agatha Christie Playing Cards! They're the only playing cards that are officially licensed by Agatha Christie Ltd., featuring pictures of Christie detectives, Christie clues, treasures in Christie stories, and Christie weapons. The wonderful artwork is by Ilya Milstein.  And best of all, there's educational supplementary information written by me, Chris Chan. Order yours today!

Last Chance to See The Resurrection of Father Brown!

Last Chance to See The Resurrection of Father Brown!

If you’re in the Milwaukee area and you’re a Father Brown fan, make sure you catch Morning Star Productions’ presentation of the interactive mystery The Resurrection of Father Brown this weekend.  There are performances Friday evening (the snow should probably have passed and been cleared by that time), all afternoon and evening Saturday, and Sunday afternoon.  If you have a spare hour, I recommend that you get yourself a ticket and test your skills as an amateur sleuth!
