I was driving back from town, having sent packages to her APO when heard Billy Joe Shaver singing, "Freedom's Child was laid to rest, singing Freedom's song"...and I had to pull over, because I couldn't stop sobbing. All these years later, I still remember; How close she came- the bomb that hit her convoy, that helicopter flight she didn't take, the shell that missed...then I remember the ones who were with her, who never came home. To all the Veterans and Military Families out there, who cannot 'celebrate' this Memorial Day- you have my love eternal. I will never forget.
