PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE (Excerpt from original internal dossier - needs to be updated to reflect recent events): Azarian AKA 'The Watcher' is ultimately a bodyguard who uses his unique physical training and investigative skills to locate, assess and eliminate individual or systemic threats, all to protect a subject. The Watcher will seek a subject to protect if none is assigned. The Watcher is a skeptical, independent alpha, manipulative, impulsive, iconoclastic; domineering, violent and unpredictable. Not a team player. A loner by nature, he will rarely form alliances, but will attempt to control his environment and other persons allowed to enter his circle. A casual liar when in his best interest. Rejects any Authority but his own. Rules are for other people, and he makes the rules. The Watcher is best approached from a neutral stance; dangerous, cunning and unpredictable, he enjoys conflict and will initiate aggression when given a reason, but will fall back to protective/defensive stance when given a subject to protect... His need to protect can be used to control him.

PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS: The Watcher has extraordinary sensory abilities, detecting threats well before others are aware of them; he also rarely sleeps. These traits are well documented and little understood, but may be due to past occupational exposures. Those occupational exposures include rigorous combat training and access to AI training programs. This all feeds into his enormous self-confidence and sociopathic tendencies. Previous dossier reports the observation: "Rules are for other people, and he makes the rules..." Recent conversation confirms his rules: men who hurt the innocent deserve to die, and those who deserve to die, should. Lives by the mantra, "Some men just need killin'." But a fearful change is underway... the Watcher is being emotionally transmutated by a Catalyst beyond his ability to comprehend, and it terrifies him.

DEEP ANALYSIS: Prisoner... Bounty Hunter... Special Agent... Marshal... who is Saul Azarian AKA 'The Watcher?"

•PAST: A self-aware and self-described 'Sociopath', the Watcher is the product of childhood trauma. His pathological need to protect and avenge outside proscribed societal boundaries arises from guilt at his powerlessness to stop his Mother's destruction. That guilt, combined with rage, gave birth to the mantra, "some men just need killin''. This 'root desire' is now the Watcher's purpose and his identity. Understandably bitter and oppositional during his incarceration at Reunion Camp, he had few close associates in the last few decades; only a Prison Guard, Sentinel Jermaine Montel, and Rita Ramos, an elderly woman whom he adopted as his 'Abuelita'.

Their deaths are a direct result of his encounter with his Catalyst.

•PRESENT: The Watcher's liberation and subsequent rise to power are also a result of this encounter with the Catalyst; those interactions have awakened the Sleeping Giant within. These cataclysmic life changes have resulted in a profound existential crisis for the Watcher. His belief system is being challenged, and it is rocking him to the core. This Catalyst has initiated a series of events, turning his lifetime of cynicism upside down. While this current situation may cause him to question his belief system, the Watcher's root desire to protect and avenge will not be subjugated.

•FUTURE: Even if the Watcher finds enlightenment or satisfaction, nothing will change his past... to protect and avenge is his purpose. Even if the Watcher finds a way to reconcile his past, to lose purpose would result in him losing his identity. This loss would make the Watcher psychologically unstable unless a new purpose arises to give him new identity. If by some miracle that new identity is born, the Watcher will remain himself, but evolve into an even greater threat to the System he once served.

HOTTIP: Watch the One who watches the Watcher.

WATCHER of the DAMNED: WANDERER - Trail of Travail. CH. I - excerpt

Leaning back, the Watcher twisted to take his shot in the dark, blasting another 12-gauge slug from his short-barrelled Remington shotgun; curses in the darkness behind them accompanied the shriek of panicked horses.

Distressed by the anguished cries of their pursuers' mounts, Rose pressed her face against Oro's sweating neck, threading her other hand into his pale mane to cling for dear life.  She was being pressed forward in their shared saddle by the Watcher's heavy body, the saddle horn jammed uncomfortably against her belly; the draft saddle's stiff leather abraded her bare thighs beneath her short jersey shift, and she deeply regretted not wearing something more suitable toforiding horseback.  The deer's ears of her doehide hood flapped in the wind as Oro surged, blowing back to reveal a tangled cloud of black curls.  Hooves drumming the dirt, the massive Palomino tore up the soft earth beneath him, chunks of soil flying up behind him with each heavy hoofbeat.

A bullet whizzed by the Watcher's ear, chipping bark off a nearby tree as he raced ahead, curving into a ravine…
