It was the end of August and the evening air had a chill to it. I had come to town with three friends. We all had spent the summer wrangling horses in Jackson, Wyoming(1969). We came to ride some wild horses that had been caught in the Red Desert and it was the last rodeo of the season.
The arena lights were turned on creating a black wall around the grounds.
Of the three friends, two made their rides and the third got bucked off.
I dropped onto my horse's back and grabbed hold of the rigging. Nodding my head, they pulled the gate and my horse came out, bucked once and then took off at a dead run.
