10/23/20 Snippet, TINSEL RAIN.
Still not sure how this scene is going to go.

The Castle knows its shtick, at least. When they throw a spectacle, everything’s laid out just so. And you can count on enough bright smiles and happy faces to satisfy even the sweetest tooth. Even when nobody wants to be there; although you’d never, ever know it from looking at our nobles. Reading between the lines of the sagas, a lot of their ancestors were pretty damned good at bald-faced lying, and their descendants have kept in practice.
So I expected the Dominion ambassador had nothing to complain about, although he’d probably complain anyway. There’d be some symbolic humiliations, but this wasn’t the Cold-Lands or what used to be Deseret; some places, they’d offer gold, slaves, or a sacrificial goat. Here, it’d just be ritualized phrases of submission, perfectly uttered and with no weight to them whatsoever.
And if the Ambassador didn’t like it? That was a real good question. On the one hand, we had sent their last two Ambassadors home in a jug and a box; but that was on the other hand, too. If I was the Castle, I’d be a little worried about how much madder than usual the Dominion was feeling right now. Which was probably why they invited me to this do: I had gotten away with skipping the last couple, because normally nobody cared. But they cared enough now to send a process server after me, and I was a little worried about that.

‘Spooky.’
The “Oh, actually, this has potential” RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON trailer.
I get a Star Wars vibe off of RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON. A good vibe. It looks like a Southeast Asian / Indian subcontinent fantasy vehicle, with stick fighting and traps and acrobatic martial arts and yeah, Disney has piqued my interest. I do think that I am, as they say, ‘down’ for some of that.
10/22/20 Update, TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter.
As I said before, I think the TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter is going very well… as long as I don’t have an unreasonable expectation for it. We picked up a couple more people pledging, and we’ve hit the first stretch goals. I really do expect to hit the current ones by the end of the Kickstarter, although if it bursts through tomorrow and I make ten grand by the end I shan’t complain, either. I n the meantime: slow and steady wins the race. Particularly when you’ve carefully set up the racecourse ahead of time.

Good luck with the Kickst
Tim Burton looking to make THE ADDAMS FAMILY series.
Tim.
Tim Burton is looking to make the move into TV is a live-action series adaption of The Addams Family. This would be Burton’s first big live-action TV series, and he is currently negotiating to direct all of the episodes and executive produce the show.
Why are you doing this, Tim? What is your victory condition here, Tim? How do you intend to bear up under the weight of previous television shows and movies here, Tim? – Bear in mind that I can readily believe that you have answers to these questions, Tim. I am merely concerned that you may have not asked these questions beforehand, and that would be sad.
Tim.
10/22/20 Snippet, FROZEN REIGN.
Just a little wordcount to get me ready for NaNoWriMo.

They got me pretty slick, I have to admit. I picked out the first guy in the crowd right away, and I even figured out who his two buddies were. They were keeping their distance, so I wasn’t spooked just yet. But I did figure it was a great time to start moving. Graciela looked at me funny, but she spotted our friends pretty quick once I muttered “We’re being tailed.” Then she was all in.
She knew how to look without looking like she was; it’s a good skill to have. “They sicarios?” Graciala asked. She didn’t whisper or say it too fast, either. Just a casual comment on our way somewhere else. That’s how you do it.
“Nah,” I replied. “Wrong time, wrong place to start something. Not a snatch team, either. At a guess, they’re here to ‘suggest’ I come with them because I suddenly need to talk to somebody important.”
“So you wanna get away from them, Shamus?”
“Sort of. I wanna at least get to an alley where I can hear the pitch without anybody else butting in. I listen, they smack me around, maybe I smack them around. I figure I’ll end up going, either way.” She flashed me a look, and I decided to flesh that out a little. “I’m always talking to people too full of themselves to come to me. It’s a big part of the job. So we do this dance where they lie and I wisecrack. Then we break for lunch.”

‘Sweet Transvestite.’
Zac Snyder Alters The Deal, brings back Jared Leto for JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Snyder will likely alter it further: “Jared Leto has joined Zack Snyder’s Justice League Director’s Cut, and he will reprise his role as Joker. Leto is a part of the additional shooting that is being done for the film.” The additional shooting which was never supposed to happen in the first place. Back when this was just going to be a recut of the movie. With only some special effects added. And so on, and so forth, while all the while Snyder keeps turning the screws — and now here we are, and where we are is hilarious.
Oh, stop scowling, HBO Max: you know perfectly well that you’ll get at least a month’s revenue out of me so I can watch the Snyder Cut*. That was the idea, right? This was always the plan, correct So you can just sit there and bear up under my amused scorn. Humility is good for the soul.

*I am sure that there will be some subterfuge or machination that would allow me to watch the show for free, but I choose not to attempt to figure one out. I can afford to subscribe and give the network a fair chance to make their pitch. Fair’s fair.
10/21/20 Update, TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter.
It’s been a good two days, so far: TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION has funded, and has hit its first stretch goal! Each pledge at $10 or higher will also receive a digital short story sampler of three additional stories. It’ll increase to a maximum of six, which will undoubtedly become the core of the next short story collection.
I also guessed right, alas: I suspected that the first Kickstarter had a pent-up head of steam behind it which would not be present here, and I was correct. But that’s not really a problem. I designed this Kickstarter to let me recoup my expenses in bringing this book to print, and it’s already working. Spend money to make money, and all that.
That being said: feel free to pass the link around. I wouldn’t mind at all if this Kickstarter hit ten grand. I have a plan if it does, too.
