12/08/20 Snippet, TIMMY AND THE CHRISTMAS ELF.

Patreon!When the mall cops found Timmy, he had already worked his way up from ‘sniffling’ to ‘sobbing,’ and was wondering whether he’d have to resort to ‘bawling’ to get somebody to see him. He didn’t want to. Really crying over stuff was stupid, and if he tried he figured the other kids would know he was faking it. Adults wouldn’t, but a lot of adults were as stupid as crying was.
But adults also like things quiet, and it was Christmas, so they knew enough to look for sobbing kids all by themselves. Timmy didn’t have to sob more than a minute or two before a mall cop came up to him. This was one of the young thin ones, too. That was good. Sometimes the old, fat ones needed to be pushed a little before they’d care. Young and Thin bent down to talk to Timmy; from this close he could see just how cheap the mall cop’s hat was. Timmy wondered why they just didn’t get the right hats, but not much. If he asked, nobody would explain it to him right.
“Hi, kiddo,” said Young and Thin. “You trying to find your mom?” His breath was all right. No bad teeth, no cigarette smell. And he wasn’t really looking at Timmy. Timmy was just this little problem walking around that he had to fix, because it was his job, and if he never saw Timmy again Young and Thin wouldn’t even notice. That was good.

Patreon!Denver is one of the romantic cities for modern archeologists; it changed hands a half-dozen times after the Discovery, had its own empire — and was left to fall into uninhabited ruins when the Dominion conquered the place, purely for the sake of its strategic location. There could be anything there, and now we can actually go look for it!
Well, once we got there. We traveled by coach and wagon; they’re talking about putting in a railroad, but even if they were constructing more rail all the east-west lines would be reserved for war materials. The Dominion is losing, but it’s not dead yet. But that was all right; I wanted to get acclimated to the mountains again. It wouldn’t do to be short of breath, the first few days of the dig.
Denver’s skyline is more romanticism; the city had more permacrete and transparent aluminum structures than other pre-Discovery cities, so it’s weathered the intervening centuries better. The Dominion apparently approved of the aesthetic, although it seeded the ruins with their usual devil’s brew of monsters. I understood that some were still out there, and that it was prudent not to go out by yourself alone. As if I’d explore abandoned ruins by myself! That’s a quick route to disaster. But as a practical matter it meant I would be assigned a partner for the dig, and the partner they found for me was a little… interesting.

This MORBIUS trailer has got some new footage, and Sony’s still aiming for a March 2021 release date. I hope you like the idea of a Sinister Six movie, because Sony’s gonna go for it. Morbius, more Vulture, Venom’s getting a sequel, and maybe they’ll pull in Blade from the MCU. …And I’m okay with all of that.

It’s a sad day. Still, we can take some comfort in knowing that Chuck Yeager was a man who lived a full and rewarding life, and that he was one of the people who helped usher in the modern age. My condolences to his wife, family, and loved ones.
Lifetime does a 15 minute romance movie for KFC.
I have three responses to this, and I don’t know which I like better. The first is: I’m not even mad. The second is: Go home, Lifetime. You’re drunk. And the third is: Only fifteen minutes? If you’re gonna with the Deep Hurting, then by God swing for the fences. A Recipe for Seduction should have been a miniseries and they should have brought in one of the other franchises, too. Arby’s, maybe. Those guys would have gotten into it.

Patreon!“Ah.” ‘The Wall,’ for those of you who are unaccountably unfamiliar with the history of Early Modern archeology, was a hasty fortification thrown up by PCU scholars in the immediate aftermath of the Discovery, when the forest magic was running wild and savage. They filled it with whatever was at hand: rubble, heavy plastic, metal… and every book they could spare, since the questing, rampaging roots seemed to instinctively avoid paper products. After things calmed down, the University kept the walls up, because they worked just as well against bandits. Eventually they forgot about the interior materials.
But one man’s junk is another man’s doctoral thesis: about twenty years ago somebody rediscovered all the stuff buried in The Wall, and we’ve been mining it for artifacts and papers ever since. Nine hundred years inside a stone fortification isn’t the best place to store a book, but the Old Americans made them tough at the end and restoration magic exists for a reason… but I digress. The point is, the University staff used the books they considered useless, which means the site is a great source for a lot of odd information, which has led to some significant discoveries. Those of us with a weakness for esoteric puns refer to the results as being ‘Off The Wall.’
Trust me, it’s a really funny line in Old American.
