10/27/20 Update, TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION.

A better day, thankfully; and some sales elsewhere! TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION may not have the legs FROZEN DREAMS did, but a lot of the characters in it deserve their own books. With any luck, I’ll be able to write them, too.

Okay: also, I like getting paid to write. It’s a hell of a concept, let me tell you.

10/27/20 Snippet, PATCHWORK GOD.

We’re going to need to get some action happening soon. Ach, well, it’s a draft and I’m going to be writing the new Tom Vargas next month anyway.

As it happened, we didn’t need to push the button for every floor; somebody was getting on or off at almost each one anyway. The one time nobody did, Pat held the elevator door open while Jack and I had a good sniff, then we got back on. The people in the box with us didn’t say anything.

Humans don’t, generally. We’ve — and I include the Other Side in that ‘we’ve’ — noticed a long time ago that we just don’t stay in human heads for long. It’s not exactly amnesia; punch a human, and I guarantee she’ll remember that you did. But once we’re out of sight of them we’re also very much out of mind. Their memories of us rapidly drain of urgency. This gets really handy when we have to clean up after a Blasphemous Tome, let me tell you — but good luck trying to get one to fix your car unless you’re standing right over her. Which I guess means it all balances out in the end.

In the e-Mail: Supernatural Streets.

Since I am apparently writing high urban fantasy detective novels now I should probably start reading them, hey? So I grabbed Supernatural Streets: I gotta admit, “stories of psychic FBI agents, werewolf detectives, monster hunters, and an ordinary cop just trying to survive when the ritual daggers come out” sounds like the stuff I’m down with reading. Besides, for three bucks what’s the harm, hey?

The Audiobook is doing well. I think.

I think my sales were perhaps a touch depressed by the minor detail that the people who wanted a FROZEN DREAMS audiobook got one via the Kickstarter. But that’s all right: they also paid for the audiobook, which was the important thing there. I don’t know if I’m going to offer an audiobook as a stretch goal for TINSEL RAIN, though*. Still trying to recalibrate expectations.

*Assuming I do a Kickstarter. The ultimate goal is to not need to.

Tweet of the Day, Dammit edition.

Dammit, dammit, dammit. Well, at least the Cyberpunk 2077 release won’t interfere with NaNoWriMo now. Grumble grumble groan…

Halloween 2020 update: three families going to be using the tubes.

I’m going to go find some families in our complex more tomorrow and Wednesday. Basically, we have wide-aperture cardboard tubes (two three-footers, bound with duct tape) which we can mount to our railings and slide candy down a socially distanced space to the kids below. I got two other houses to do this, and I can get another nine with the tubes we got. There’s a guy around here who always does bouncy displays for Halloween. He’ll go for this, bless me if he won’t.

PS: Because it’s Halloween, and I decline to just give that up without a fight.

The Goodreads Best Books of 2020 Contest!

Just what it says on the tin. Here’s the link: and if you want to go ahead and write in FROZEN DREAMS under the Fantasy category I’m certainly not going to stop you*. As they say: it’s just an honor to be self-nominated.

*Although A Deadly Education was… dear God but that was a good book. I read it something like three times in a row. I can’t wait for the sequel. :pause: Okay, yes, I’m arguing against interest but there’s no shame in losing anything to Naomi Novik.

10/26/20 Update, TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter.

Welp, it looks like another stalled-out day for the TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter. No lie; I was hoping that putting up the free story might entice a pledge or two, but apparently not. Ach, well. I know people who are trying to just get across the crowdfunding finish line, let alone trying to rack up the cash.

Still, feel free to pass along this link to anybody who might be interested in signing up. It can only help my production timeline next year. Even the $5 tier is one more potential reader…
