The Rather Bloody BLOOD VESSEL trailer.

BLOOD VESSEL actually reminds me of a story I mean to write. Vaguely.

Hrm. Maybe I should write it for Christmas?

11/07/20 Update, TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter.

Weekends. What are ya gonna do? We’re approaching the ten day mark on the TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter, and everything is still going well. Mind you, the only way it’d stop going well is if the Kickstarter got canceled, but everything is, as they say, copacetic.

Thank goodness.

Day 7, TINSEL RAIN NaNoWriMo: 17000/60000.

I have a sad: there’s a minor character later in this chapter who I now don’t want to kill off. But she must! Even if I wrote her an excellent introduction. Perhaps I should change her last name to ‘Darling.’

There were five folders in front of me. Five folders, five lives, five deaths. All of it, all of them, turned into a few pieces of paper. I doubted any of ‘em expected to end up here, but they never do.

I normally treat orders from the Flatfoots as well-meaning suggestions, but Foster sounded serious enough that I decided that right away meant just that. Captain Gannon was still in the office when I got there, but that didn’t mean anything. He liked to work late and his wife didn’t mind, since she was his secretary and it meant more overtime for her.

We went through the usual bits of small and trash talk while I poured us both drinks, but he wasn’t feeling the mood tonight. “It wasn’t a great time, Tom,” he said as he passed over the files. “But the word came down: there aren’t any mages in Cin City, so there can’t be any mage wars in Cin City. Simple as that.”

“That bad, huh?” I started to flip through the files.

“It got worse as it went on,” Gannon said. “We’re still not sure we found all the victims. I mean, it’s a big city, right?”

Day 6, TINSEL RAIN NaNoWriMo: 14953/60000

Would have finished earlier, but I went to a movie. Huzzah for me!

“Something’s bothering you, Shamus?” she said. “Is it the charms?”

I looked at her, puzzled. “No, it’s just the Cazals Case. The charms, they’re still just a coincidence. I told you.”

“Sorry, Shamus. They just seem important to me. I don’t know why.”

“Well, Graciella, there’s two reasons why you might be feeling that. The first is that your Shamus instincts are rising up and grabbing your lapel, yelling at you that hey, this is important!” I popped the cap on my beer. I remember when they still used corks for that. Shoot, I remembered when the beer wasn’t always cold. Ah, progress.
Graciella watched me take a few swallows before she decided to ask, “So what’s the second reason?”

“You’re rushing the Case.” I put down the beer. “Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t. Not worth forcing a Case before it’s ready.”

It was a good couple of days, actually. Got movement, got to the second stretch goal for TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION. The third and fourth goals await!

My TENET Mini-Review.

Short version: TENET was good but it’s baroque as heck. I’m going to need to watch it a few more times.

Slightly longer version: TENET is about time inversion – essentially, reversed temporal flow – and while it’s a fun action movie on its own it’s definitely one of thos films where you’re going to like it if you like it weird. The special effects are very good, the dialogue from the hero is surprisingly snappy (TENET’s got a Bond vibe that you don’t really notice at first), and the temporal stuff gives a bit of ominous foreshadowing to the whole thing. But it won’t be everybody’s cup of tea.

PS: God, I missed movie theaters. Thank God I finally got to go to one again.

The LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL.

It’s… not as bad-looking as I thought it would be. I mean, I’ve seen more of the LEGO Star Wars stuff than I’d like to admit, because of my kids; but the LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL isn’t too bad, for what it is. Which is, something aimed at kids.

Go figure.

Tweet of the Day, No Way Am I Checking Those Lyrics edition.

If it’s not true, it should be. Guess there was a reason why you never heard the full song on Cheers?

‘The British Grenadiers.’

A bit late today, but that’s because it was both Baronial Newsletter Day and – more importantly – my wedding anniversary.
