Tobias hated the thought of wrecking the relay tower; there weren’t enough of them left as it was. The emergency supplies were lasting longer than anybody on the moon had hoped for, but it was going on two months now and the emergency wasn’t ending. Losing any tech hurt.

“So does losing the mine,” Tobias muttered as he drifted the hopper through the canyons leading up to the tower. He was flying as low as he could, and considerably lower than he used to dare. So far, there was no sign of… what had attacked him. Either on the ground, or inside his head.

Not that he was alone with his thoughts. Asenath was in his head, but that was fine. He valued her company. I have finished analyzing the data you collected about your attacker. Are you sure you do not want a description?

“Yes,” said Tobias, in lieu of admitting to her that he was ready to vomit at even the thought of truly perceiving the thing now infesting the Jetshaft mine.

The JUNGLE CRUISE Honest Trailer.

I liked JUNGLE CRUISE more than Honest Trailers did, although they didn’t drip acid onto their review, or anything. I mean, it’s a big old dumb action movie and we all knew that going in. Full points for HT’s kick-in-the-groin of Disney over presumed Chinese self-censorship, mind. I hadn’t considered that, until they pointed it out.

Tweet of the Day, Clever Girl edition.

If you don’t think this is mildly terrifying, you haven’t had toddlers around for a while. …Hold on. I haven’t had toddlers around for a while. So why do I find this video mildly alarming?

Yeah, I got nothing (Open Thread).

What’s new with you folks?

PS: It was a slow week! All the interesting stuff was stuff that wasn’t happening, like new shows or whatnot. I’m trying not to clickbait, okay?

Tweet of the Previous Weekend, This Is Getting Excitingly Dull, Fast edition.

Oh, look. It was just another successful private space mission. This one happened to be manned, fully automated, and involved multiple orbits. Oh, yes, and there were the usual reusable booster and all the rest of the things SpaceX does, sure, sure.

How… prosaic.

The “Because we could” Marvel’s HIT-MONKEY series trailer.

It’s not that Marvel is drunk on its power, exactly. Why, that would imply that there is an alternative state of consciousness for the company. Seriously, when it comes to new programming Marvel’s pitch team has been continuously ripped to the gills for the last decade and a half, and here’s the latest bit of evidence for that:

HIT-MONKEY is merely the latest in a series of counter-intuitive show choices that will… likely work out. I mean, what do I know? I would have rejected the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY pitch as being too risky! Good thing Marvel didn’t hire me to do that, huh?

I can transmit your instructions, Commander; but I will need you to repeat them, more formally. After he had done so, Asenath went on, Two questions, Commander. First: neither the human nor the automated facilities on the moon operate under radio silence. Anything with the ability to detect electromagnetic radiation already knows where we are.

“I know,” replied Tobias. “And I can’t do anything about that. But — you’ve analyzed the footage from the camera, right?”

Yes. It seems very anomalous.

“Yeah.” Tobias suppressed the alarming giggle that word provoked before going on. “Anomalous. But it’s a monster. It’s got to be! Maybe it doesn’t know what technology is. Why should it? It’s surviving the moon just fine, isn’t it?”

Your heart rate is increasing… excuse me. That sounds like a good working hypothesis, Commander. Which leads back to my next question: what is your plan of action?

Asenath’s ready acceptance calmed him, more than he expected.
