Writers Down Time

Hobbies keep the creativity flowing when suffering from writer’s block or in the grip of the editing process. I’ve tried a variety of arts and crafts through the years, and just recently I sat down to reflect on which ones truly give me pleasure and a sense of satisfaction. I got my list down to five items:
1. Sculpting (w/homemade cold porcelain, paper mâché clay and traditional paper mâché)
2. Coloring (w/pencils or crayons)
3. Knitting (simple items 😊)
4. Baking
5. Gardening (Spring/Summer only).
Zeroing in on what I enjoy most allows me to choose from a short list of items for something to do in the down time and keeps my craft corner more organized and less cluttered. 😊
What do you do in your down time?

New Book Feelings

Is it just me or is there something special about buying a brand-new untouched book? When I was young, I looked forward to Scholastic Book Club Delivery Day in school almost as much as birthdays, Christmas or Easter. I couldn’t wait for my name to be called so I could walk up to the teacher’s desk and receive the wonderful treasures that my parents allowed me to order from the colorful newspaper like catalog that was handed out by the teacher. With a neat stack of books, arranged from the smallest book on top to the largest book on bottom, with a slip of paper with my name on it hanging out of the first page, cradled in my arms like a newborn baby, I walked proudly back to my desk.
I still love the smell of clean, fresh pages, the stiff feel of paper, and the look of an unblemished spine. To this day, it always feels wrong to open it for the first time and spoil its look, and there are some books that I managed to keep in pristine condition despite being read. Sometimes even on vacation when books are known to fall victim to bending and all types of calamities with water, drinks, and other liquids.
What do you like about holding a brand-new book?

Prose

Prose. We’ve all heard the word when authors are talking about writing, but what really is it and why is it important to the story? Prose is the words, the relaxed everyday language, the author uses to tell the story, and evokes emotions in the reader. Sentences and thoughts continue across the lines in a smooth wave. Weave your best story.

Authors - A Small World

When someone finds out that I’m an author it’s inevitable that they ask me if I’ve heard of this or that author or read this or that book. There are so many excellent writers and books out there. Here’s a short list of some.
