Social Impact Author!

As I was writing my book of life advice to my daughters, I was struck by the number of other parents who loved this idea and want to leave similar books of personal stories and advice for their children.

With that, I helped start Dear Kids Books, and I was interviewed by Authority Magazine as a social impact author. If you like interviews that refer to my most embarrassing and instructure work experience, quote Larry Bird and end with "There's no downside to kindness unless you’re an attorney," then this may be for you.

More TV appearances!

Hello readers, I was fortunate enough to do some other TV appearances this year to promote Please Open in the Event of My Death, which is the flagship book of the Dear Kids Books publishing service, where other parents can leave similar books of advice for their children and loved ones.

My interview with Better Connecticut is here.

And it was really an honor to talk to longtime weatherman and New York institution Mr. G about my book and the Dear Kids Books service. Here is that segment.

Book reviews!

It's been a while but I wanted to update you all on what's been going on with the book, beginning with book reviews:

Kirkus calls Please Open in the Event of My Death "expressively tender." The Midwest Book Reviews writes: "Deftly written with a great deal of wit and wisdom, making it a 'must read' choice for all fathers of small (and even not-so-small) children, Please Open in the Event of My Death: A Father's Advice to His Daughters in Case Something Horrible Happens (Which Hopefully It Won't But Just in Case...) is a unique and unreservedly recommended addition to all community library Parenting and Mid-Life Management collections."

The real compliment though was recently when the 70-something devout Jehovah's Witness from my office told me how much she loved it and cried several times. And when she said, "I had just one nitpick with it--" I immediately thought about all the times I used expletives. Eh, I still kind of stand by them ...

TV appearance to promote the book!

Hello everyone, I appeared on the show The Doctors and spoke to Dr. Ian Smith about Please Open in the Event of My Death, its morbid inspiration and why humor and pop culture was necessary to write a book of life advice. Hope you enjoy!

And if you're thinking, man, I need to hear that guy talk even more, please take a look at the videos at the top and bottom of this page. (I know the woman with 200 plants in her home is cool but try not to be distracted.)

Thanks for watching and please stay safe!
