L. E. Medlock has been writing stories since her first school writing assignment, and reading books long before that. She initially decided it wouldn’t make a great career choice and went to University to study Egyptology and Classical Civilisation, but the writing never stopped. At the end of her master’s degree, she decided to try and turn professional. Some fourteen years and six novels later, she published her debut, The Agent’s Demon (the “light-hearted” one). She enjoys stories about flawed gods and monsters who look like us. She’s much too addicted to video games and dreams of one day being a cat owner.

“Don’t worry,” Turner says, her voice taking on the matronly air she reserves for small children and young men. “Stupider men than you have gone through this ritual, and they’ve all succeeded, so you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

“Um, thank you?”
L.E. Medlock, The Agent's Demon

“I steel myself and look up. And up. The demon is a head taller than me. That realisation sticks in my mind and for a moment I don’t realise what has happened, why shocked whispers are ricocheting off the walls. Then I understand. The demon is male. I haven’t called a Hound at all.”
L.E. Medlock, The Agent's Demon

“The demon watches me slide the pin back into my hair. “Is that a blade in your hat?” he whispers.

“It’s a pin.” Never underestimate the power of a lady’s toilette, Turner had told me once.”
L.E. Medlock, The Agent's Demon

“Oh, yes, she's unusual!" he said bitterly. "She blurts out whatever may come into her head; she tumbles from one outrageous escapade into another; she's happier grooming horses and hobnobbing with stable-hands than going to parties; she's impertinent; you daren't catch her eye for fear she should start to giggle; she hasn't any accomplishments; I never saw anyone with less dignity; she's abominable, and damnably hot at hand, frank to a fault, and – a darling!”
Georgette Heyer, Sylvester or The Wicked Uncle

“As soon as one promises not to do something, it becomes the one thing above all others that one most wishes to do.”
Georgette Heyer, Venetia

“It was growing late, and though one might stand on the brink of a deep chasm of disaster, one was still obliged to dress for dinner.”
Georgette Heyer, April Lady

“You're only a man! You've not our gifts! I can tell you! Why, a woman can think of a hundred different things at once, all them contradictory!”
Georgette Heyer, Powder and Patch

“Do you forget that I am your sister?”
“No; I’ve never been granted the opportunity to forget it.”
Georgette Heyer, Frederica
