Patrick Leber's Blog: Why Run When ...

Change is Good
7/29/23: Just noticed a blog page was available so I thought I'd capture some thoughts about running or while running. Most will be short entires but this one will be a little long with an intro thought.
My running has lasted 43 years and I attribute this success to three elements (in no particular order)
1) Run every other day - The body needs rest even when you don't think it does. I have been running Tue, Thur, Sat, & Sun for ~ 30 years with this strategy.
2) Run in multiple shoes and rotate them every run. I run in 4 different pairs + a 5th pair for trail runs (very rare for me).
3) As boring as it is, run on a track. Some years account for nearly 40% of my milage on the track. The surface saves the joints if you want to run into your later years.
I've been nursing a left achilles injury while training for the Nationwide Children's Hospital half marathon on 10/15/23. This happened to me last year when I increased mileage over the same training period. I am not worried. Just needed to rest the legs yet I continue to take daily walks with no pain & conduct focus exercises on the achilles daily.
I'm using a coach this year for the very first time in my 43 years of running. Pretty pumped about having Adam to help guide me. You'll see I'm open minded to change. My next test for the achilles is on 8/1 with a simple two mile run. #stayyoung :-)
