'Mike Posner is an American singer-songwriter, poet and record producer. He’s produced multiple solo hits like “Cooler than Me” and “Please Don’t Go” and produced and written numerous others like Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” and Maroon 5’s “Sugar”. Most recently, a remix of his 2015 single "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" peaked in the top 10 on the charts in 27 countries around the world, including hitting number one in many and the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The Duke University alum now has a podcast exploring philosophy, society, culture and family called “What does this all mean?” In this interview, we plan to explore his prolific music career, rapid early rise to success, recent musical comeback and general themes he explores in his podcast.'

Co-taught by Grammy Award-winning producer and record label head 9th Wonder (Patrick Douthit) and Duke University Professor Mark Anthony Neal, a noted scholar of Black Cultural Studies, The History of Hip-Hop (v.8) examines the organic social, cultural and economic foundations of Hip-Hop Culture, as well as the key aesthetic innovators/innovations, and the debates that have arisen over Hip-Hop’s increased visibility, influence and profitability.
The History of Hip-Hop meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 pm in the Richard White Lecture Hall on Duke University's East Campus; the course is open to the public.
