J.S. Ondara Says Hello To The 'American Dream'

'J.S. Ondara is a Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter whose love for Bob Dylan spurred him to move to Minnesota from Nairobi, Kenya in 2013. Since he won a Green Card lottery that allowed the move, he learned to play guitar and has lived the so-called American Dream. School is a Tracking Device: On Deschooling as Abolitionist Practice

'Writer Sujani K. Reddy examines deschooling, as a radical lesson in abolitionist politics - as the demands and logic of capitalism corrupt the institutions of public education, we must revalue knowledge itself, outside schools and within our communities, if we are to reclaim the classroom and education for the good of the people. Racial Disparities Persist in Stillbirth Rates

'Stillbirths are an under-discussed part of the infant mortality picture in the United States, as are the racial disparities within those numbers. According to new data, the Ohio stillbirth rate for African-Americans is twice that of the whites, and it has been so for more than a decade. The racial disparities in Ohio mirror national trends in pregnancy complications, including stillbirths. In 2017, there were more than 850 known stillbirths in Ohio. According to the CDC, stillbirth statistics across the country are similar. Anne Glausser, managing producer of health and education for WCPN, Cleveland, has been reporting on this and joins The Takeaway to discuss her findings.' -- The Takeaway
