Interesting Facts about our Solar System
The vast majority of the solar system's mass is in the Sun and the majority of the remaining mass is contained in the Jupiter. The Sun is the largest object in our solar system. It holds approximately 99.8 percent of the solar system's mass and is nearly 109 times the diameter of the Earth. We can say that, about one million Earths could fit inside the sun. The Sun lies at the heart of the solar system. There are four smaller inner planets i.e. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. The four outer planets in our solar system are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars (Inner Planets) are a terrestrial planets or rocky planets. They are primarily composed of silicate rocks or metals. The Jupiter and Saturn are two largest gas giants in our solar system. They are composed of mainly Hydrogen and Helium. While the outermost planets i.e. Uranus and Neptune are ice giants and mainly composed of volatiles such as water, ammonia and methane.
All the known eight planets orbits around the Sun. The sun is the star in our solar system and has a huge mass i.e. nearly 332,900 times the Earth masses. The Sun comprises 99.86% of all the mass in the Solar System. The Sun releases an enormous amount of energy, mostly radiated into space as electromagnetic radiation peaking in visible light.
