Window

Can you look out the window with me?
What in the world do you see?
Can that be a big blue tree?
No! That just cannot be!

Maybe we’ll take one more look,
Find a bird that loves a good book.
As he reads it in the blue tree’s nook,
Behind him, an enchanting brook.

Maybe we’ll take one more glance,
And fall into a deep trance.
As we watch the animals dance,
Joining in on their prance.

Maybe we’ll take one more peek,
Hearing the wildlife...

The Typewriter

Keys of the typewriter boomed with each press of his finger as if accenting the night around him. Sipping his whiskey, he pondered his next sentence. Dramatic or understated. Lively or dark. There were so many thoughts racing through his head. The protagonist seems to be in high spirits, which posed a problem. He focused on the fact that this was a murder mystery. A happy protagonist just didn’t fit.

The next sip of whiskey went down bet...

The Triple Bunk

The Boxes The Triple Bunk Bed. Not long ago, I didn’t know such a thing even existed. It never crossed my wildest dreams that someone would come up with such a contraption. But a friend pointed me in the right direction, and boy was I surprised! I’d found so many different kinds, in so […]

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, specifically May 10th, which means that there are plenty of people out there in need of ideas. There are plenty of different routes that a present can take, from the expensive to the sentimental, but no matter what, it should be something meaningful in some way.  Of course, this year, […]

Boys Will Be Boys?

will  We are all familiar with the saying “boys will be boys” or some variation of it. As I began to think about writing this post, I realized that the saying was originally “Children (boys) are children (boys) and do childish things.” Which, when we think about it further, isn’t that hurtful of a saying, […]

Language of Toddlers

The title of this post may sound a little strange, but I promise that it makes sense. Not long ago, I wrote about the normal that we are now experiencing, and not just as a family, but as a nation. It’s this new normal that led me to think about the communication between my […]

Our New Normal

Only a month ago, if someone told me that it would be hard to purchase toilet paper, I would not have believed them. If someone had mentioned that I would be working from home full-time while attempting to figure out a way to homeschool my preschool age child, I would not have believed them. Unfortunately, […]

Happy Birthday Little Man

“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday Dear Alex!! Happy Birthday to you!” Two days ago my youngest baby boy turned one years old. And though I told myself that I wouldn’t be upset about that, it’s hard not to be in some way.  Now, don’t get me wrong. I am so […]

Autumn Leaves

by Ada Knight

Leaves turned a myriad of different colors in anticipation of the upcoming autumn days. They clung to the trees, hoping to make it through the winter. They were sorely disappointed. As every other autumn, he walked the forest preserve, admiring the familiar paths and everything that adorned it. Trees, leaves, flowers and though the days were getting colder, they still provided the joyful sight as during the warmer months.

As if he had turned back in his five-year-old self the...

Kiss of Magic

by Ada Knight

Stalking the night, he walked in silence amongst the unsuspecting patrons of the downtown night club. The sea of human flesh grinding against one another sent his predators senses on edge. With his very being, he could smell and taste the hormones that emanated from those around him, making him thirst in more ways than one as the music pounded in his ears.

Women pressed themselves against him as he walked towards the back of the club, where his usual corner waited for him....
