1. Write down what you know to be garbage. We are not in the day of the handwritten or type-written manuscript, so you can always delete it and write something better later. This gets you past the block and onto a part where the words flow more easily.
2. Talk out or write out what you want to have happen or want to say without thinking about how to say it. This gets you past the pressure of writing the perfect prose, and you can just focus on what needs to happen or be said first.
3. Talk an idea out with someone else. A second opinion will either inspire a new idea or anger you so much (because it's dumb) that it'll help you analyze why you don't like anything and think of a better option. Either way, it gets you out of it.
4. Find an analogy. Like how Dr. House thought of a solution in every episode of "House", often parallel situations that are in completely different areas of life will spark and idea for you in your situation.(less)
