Tools of the Trade: Bewitched by the Bottomless Toolbox
As the ideas for the new novel keep putting meat on their bones, its time to round up some of those feisty scene snippets romping in the wild and start herding them to pasture. At this point, I know where the story will go, more or less. The settings, the characters, the conflicts. Gathering the […]

The Odd Dichotomy of Imagination and Structure
Writing styles. The writing process. According to those touting their notable insight on the art of writing, there are as many techniques as there are opinions on how best to put a story to ink. Starting a fresh, new novel after publishing the Rootstock Saga series has me thinking about the process, questioning where I […]

Setting Out to Sea Alone at Night
Working on an early draft of Chapter One from the current work in progress. No title yet, but the ideas keep coming. The scene… Amryn is at sea. Alone. Small boat she can manage herself. Overcast moonlit night. Some years ago, it had become her task, sailing the dead away. Inspiration images to set the […]

New Addition to the Gallery
Yesterday, I took an old, unfinished pencil sketch and set to work on turning it into something. Heart of a Chalyn

Finishing a Fantasy Journey: What an Epic Feeling
With Heart of a Chalyn, the fourth and final novel in the Rootstock Saga series publishing on December 9, finishing is a great feeling. Rootstock was ten years in the making. Off and on obsession. Pure enjoyment. Ok, so maybe some gnashing of teeth and a little lost sleep tossed into the mix. But what […]

Relentless 2020
You don’t need me to tell you… 2020 has been a monster. Protests. Western wildfires. Drone strikes. Impeachments. Pandemic. Recession. Record hurricanes and cyclones. Flash floods. Landslides. Russia oil spills. Social media hacking. Lebanon warehouse explosion. Lockdowns. Australia bushfires. Social unrest. Helicopter crashes. Plane crashes. Murder hornets. RBG leaves us. Schools closed. Churches attacked. Record […]

Heart of a Chalyn delayed
The final book in the Rootstock Saga series, Heart of a Chalyn, was scheduled for release today, July 31. That did not happen as planned. The revised date, hereby etched in stone, is September 1, 2020. Redan says don’t worry. It will be worth the wait.
