Vampires, Incubi, and a Dentist’s Office
Well, there goes my resolution to write monthly updates! Is it seriously March already? I can’t really say I’m sorry to see the days flying by, but I did honestly mean to keep you better informed of what I’m doing to get new books in your hands.
And now I have to say that it’s been rough getting words on the page. I’m not the fastest writer anyway, but this is turning out to be so slow that it’s frustrating me. I’m trying not to pressure myself too much and I am writing almost daily, so that’s something. I’m hopeful I’ll actually have two stories for you in a couple more months.
There's a Vampire Again?Yes, there is! While writing The Incubus’s Mate – which stars a dentist’s office receptionist – I realized I still needed to know who the dentist was and how he came to have a vampire lover. While mulling over all of that, I realized I was plotting a short story! So you’ll get a chance to have the companion short story before The Incubus’s Mate is released. That way, you’ll be able to understand just how a mild-mannered dentist got mixed up with monsters. Yay!
Website Updates I’ve updated my website to now include my writing progress updates for every unfinished book, including companion short stories. On the homepage, you’ll see the books I’m most actively writing, so right now that’s The Incubus’s Mate and its companion short story, The Dentist’s Vampire.

Catching Carter
I’ve written another short story from within the universe of The Sea Monster’s Mate!
Inspired by the requests from my mailing list members and stuck on writing The Incubus’s Mate, I turned to writing Catching Cater. In this story, you’ll learn more about Lyohasius, Ty’s parent, and how they came to arrive at Eric’s island at the end of The Sea Monster’s Mate. You’ll also get to know Hessan, Carter, Angelica, Steve, Holly, and the twins, Jonah and Kevin.
Here’s the official description:

Catching Carter by Delaney Rain
Separated from their sibling Hessan during a hurricane, Lyohasius is desperate to find them. Being alone is not a state Lyohasius can bear, and finding other Cecaelia in the oceans of the world is never easy. They cannot give up on reuniting with Hessan.
When they do find each other, Hessan tells Lyohasius of their love for the human who rescued them from certain death after they were washed ashore. And now Hessan wishes for Lyohasius to meet his human’s sibling and possibly find love for themself. Skeptical to their core about love and humans, Lyohasius follows Hessan anyway.
Acting on instinct when they arrive in the Gulf, Lyohasius finds themself catching a human named Carter to save him from an angry alligator. The impact of Carter on Lyohasius’s life will change everything for this lonely Cecaelia, finally giving them the connections they’ve longed for.
This 16,000-word/64-page short story is a sweet and sexy instalove tale with tentacles in naughty places, low angst, and an HFN ending. It is best read after The Sea Monster’s Mate and is not a standalone story.
This story is available FREE to my mailing list subscribers, though I may bundle it and any other short stories from this universe for sale later on.
If you enjoy this story, please leave a review below in the comments!

Dreaming of Incubi
So writing The Incubus’s Mate has been something of a struggle lately. I think part of the problem was that I had tons of ideas for a bunch of upcoming books. I write everything down, of course, but then I felt torn between which book to dive into. I’m not sure I can write multiple books at once, so I needed to buckle down and get working on one of them.
Technically, that was meant to be The Incubus’s Mate. It’s next in the order I decided long before I was writing about sea monsters.
But the writing wouldn’t happen. For weeks I’ve been staring at a blank page, knowing what I need to write, but being unable to do it.
Thankfully, I’ve realized the reason was that, though I had the story, I didn’t have the characters fully fleshed out. Who are these men? I know what they need and what they’re struggling with, but how do they feel about everything? How do they react?
Man, it’s nice to have those things figured out now! And because I’ve got a better handle on the characters, I’ve created a new cover for the book. Now Sai Patel gives a little sass with his incubus horns, and I think this cover works much better.

Stay tuned for more updates about The Incubus’s Mate!

Book Birthday: The Bigfoot’s Mate
Book number two is here! The Bigfoot’s Mate is on sale everywhere today.
Though this is my second book release, it still feels like the craziest, most wonderful thing I’ve ever done. That you want to read it is the crazy part, honestly. While your love for The Sea Monster’s Mate has boosted my self-confidence, there’s still that shaky bit inside me that hopes I’ve done well again.
So, really, thanks for coming on this adventure with me. I truly appreciate your support.
Anthropologist Ramsey Kaye survives a small plane crash in the forest, but is prevented from getting immediate help by injuries and bad weather. Though he’s out here looking for Bigfoot evidence, he’s still terrified when the real thing finds him taking shelter in the wrecked plane. But now he’s living in a cave with the hairy brute and discovering the big guy might not be so beastly after all. In fact, Ramsey might just be falling in love with Bigfoot.
Ramsey’s spent his life wanting to prove Bigfoot’s existence to the world, but now that he has all the evidence he could ever want, he’s not sure he wants to share. But what if people come looking for him, intent on rescuing him? Does he stay or go? Is love enough of a reason for Ramsey to abandon his modern life to remain here in the forest as Bigfoot’s mate?

Update on The Bigfoot’s Mate
Re-Opening
I hope you’re doing well out there. We’re slowly coming out of quarantine and businesses are reopening here, though my day job is letting us continue working from home through the end of June. I’m not feeling ready to get back to “normal” so I’m still limiting my activities and staying home. I think it might be easier for me since I’m such an introvert anyway.
Book Update
I wanted to let you know that I’ve finished the first draft of THE BIGFOOT’S MATE and it’s off to my alpha reader right now. Alpha reader? Yep, she gets first crack at everything to help me see things from a reader’s point of view. I get caught up in making the story hit all the points I wanted to make and might not be able to see the forest for the trees, you know? So she lets me know where I still need to work on the story or characters to make everything the best it can be. When she’s done, it should only be a few weeks before I can schedule a release date. Stay tuned!

I’ve also redesigned the cover to make it a little more specific to exactly what the story includes. I mean, I don’t want someone to think it’s about a dude with big feet! LOL

Inspiration: The Bigfoot’s Mate
I’ve been reading Ken Gerhard’s The Essential Guide to Bigfoot as research, but it was really this piece of artwork — I almost said photo! — that really inspired the character of Till, in The Bigfoot’s Mate.

Till is a big guy at about 7 feet tall. He’s strong and hairy and doesn’t talk much. He’s a vegetarian, crafter, and has an eye for repurposing just about anything. The local wildlife know he’ll help them out if they’re hurt.
And he’s also willing to take an injured man home with him and help him heal despite humans being the one thing he actively avoids.
Basically, Till is a big softie.
And he’s lonely.
I’m really looking forward to all of you getting to know Till in the next few months. More updates soon!

What Michael & Serion Did in the Pool
If you’ve read The Sea Monster’s Mate — and you better have or this will contain all kinds of spoilers! — then you might be wondering what Michael did with Serion in the pool that day.
Eric and Ty took the hatchlings diving near Johnston Atoll and had a great adventure. But what did Michael and Serion do while they were alone? In The Sea Monster’s Mate, you only saw that they got together and how Eric and Ty were so happy for their friends’ new relationship.
Well, now you get to read about exactly what Michael did with Serion in this free short story!

Book Birthday: The Sea Monster’s Mate
It’s here! The Sea Monster’s Mate, my very first book, is now available for everyone to buy in all the stores.
Oh shit.
No, it’s cool. I’m fine. I’ll just be over here in the corner breathing into a paper bag for the next 24 hours. Totally fine.
This is the weirdest mix of anxiety — will they like it? — and excitement — I wrote a book! — that I’ve ever experienced. I could vomit. I’ve been thinking about trying to do a cartwheel. It could go either way.
Thanks for coming on this adventure with me!
When you buy this book, you’ll get a sweet and sexy insta-love story with tentacles in naughty places, very low angst, some MPreg-ish moments, and a bunch of cute alien babies. What’s not to love?
Eric Baird made the decision to abandon modern conveniences and his prejudiced family for a simple island life. He has a small cabin and a lagoon all to himself and, though he’s sometimes lonely, he’s mostly relieved that he can finally be free.
But one lazy afternoon swim takes a dangerous turn when a cramp has Eric struggling not to drown. Suddenly, someone saves him, and he’s ever so grateful…until he sees who it is.
Tyfodorus is a Cecaelia who has a rather human upper body and a definitely squid lower half. As if a mersquid in his lagoon isn’t enough to knock the socks off Eric, Ty lets him know they’re here to breed. Would Eric be the host to Ty’s six eggs? Pretty please?
Eric gets to know Ty and agrees, resulting in some amazing sex and six little highly intelligent, totally adorable hatchlings. As they adjust to living as a family in the lagoon, they also have to understand just how genetically compatible they are, deal with a shipwreck survivor, and make plans for their future together.

Inspiration: The Sea Monster’s Mate
Some time ago, I saw a series of gender-swapped Disney characters like this one of Ursula from The Little Mermaid. It got me thinking about how much of the stories wouldn’t have changed at all if the heroes were a different gender. Sure, some of them would have a tougher time if they were LGBT retellings of the stories, but if Ariel became Aaron and Prince Eric was Princess Erica…same story.

Thinking on that eventually led me to learning more about these half squid/octopus people and discovering that they’ve been around for a long time. Native Americans have myths about Octopus People fighting Raven People according to Warriors of Myth Wiki, which other sites source.
And having learned more about these people and the fan reaction to them led me to imagining Tyfodorus in The Sea Monster’s Mate.
So there you have it, the inspiration behind this story of a mersquid and the man who falls in love with them. That’s the power of art too!
