Jimmy Fallon Jokes It’s so Hot ‘Trump Went to the Roof With the Epstein Files and a Magnifying Glass’ | Video

Jimmy Fallon found a way to connect the horrible heat wave gripping much of the country this week to not one but two Trump-related news stories during his monologue on Wednesday’s “The Tonight Show.”

First he connected it to the ongoing Epstein scandal. Fallon didn’t actually get into the details of the scandal, he mere referenced it, saying, “Well, guys, New York City is still getting slapped by a massive heat wave. Boy, it’s hot out there. Temperatures in the upper 90s. It’s brutal. You take one step outside and your pants feel like the waiter just brought fajitas to the table sizzling.”

“Yeah, the heat is bad across the country. Today, at the White House, President Trump went to the roof with the Epstein files and a magnifying glass. He’s like, ‘come on, come on, do your thing. Come on,'” Fallon joked in his Trump impression.

“Speaking of Trump, did you guys hear this? The news report said that Trump is seriously considering a pardon for Diddy. Diddy Heard that and was like, I don’t want to be connected with that guy,” Fallon continued. Then Fallon did a short skit imagining what the conversation at the white house must have been like as Trump considers a pardon for Diddy.

After that, Fallon continued, “Trump is now claiming that he cut ties with Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein hired young women who already worked at Mar a Lago. At this point, Trump is like a Brita water pitcher that you had in your fridge for the past 10 years: Absolutely no filter.”

Watch the whole monologue, which included an extended skit in which Fallon talked to an actor portraying Barack Obama, below:

Stephen Colbert Jokes Epstein Was Either Killed by the Russian Earthquake or ‘Anyone on Ozempic’ | Video

Stephen Colbert took a look at the latest strange turn in ongoing scandals connected to Jeffrey Epstein, and in response descended into his own bizarre theory of how the billionaire sex offender actually died.

His inspiration is a new CBS report about purported “raw footage” released 3 weeks ago by the Trump administration, which claimed to be from inside Epstein’s cell prior to his 2019 death by an apparent suicide at the Metropolitan Correctional Facility in New York City.

Trump officials insisted that it proved there was nothing sinister about his death. At that time, Wired magazine identified proof that the video had in fact been doctored with at least one minute and possibly three removed from it. And now CBS News has identified “multiple inconsistencies” between the administration’s claims and the video itself, among them that the footage doesn’t actually show Epstein’s cell at all, with the outlet concluding that officials “appears to have drawn conclusions from the video that are not readily observable” from watching it.

So it is that Colbert brought this up mid-way through his Wednesday night monologue. “The Epstein story isn’t going away, no matter how much Trump talks about it. And the latest analysis turns this entire story on its head. Because remember how there’s that video from outside Epstein cell with the missing minutes in it? Well, forget that,” Colbert said.

“Because let’s take a look at a still from the tape,” he continued as said still appeared onscreen. “Which do you think is Epstein’s cell? Is it one, two or three? Have you locked in your answer? Great, you’re wrong, because Epstein’s cell isn’t even visible in the frame. It’s up a staircase behind that wall. So we’ve all been focusing on the missing minutes when, in fact, there’s a missing all of it.”

“Our friends over at CBS News put up this helpful graphic,” Colbert continued as the graphic appeared onscreen. “Epstein’s cell is the red one in the lower right there. The only camera we have is footage covering a common area and just a tiny sliver of the staircase that led to the area outside of Epstein’s cell upstairs. So it wasn’t even the whole staircase. Anyone really skinny could have slipped past that camera. Okay, just has to be a skinny person. So that narrows this lead suspect in Epstein’s death to anyone on Ozempic.”

“That’s not all, because the main entrance to this prison area is also not on camera, so an outsider can easily have entered Epstein’s cell and then erased the evidence as they left,” Colbert continued.”

Setting this all up, earlier in the monologue Colbert talked about the incredible 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia on Tuesday.

“Thankfully, this only resulted in a few injuries, despite the fact that it occurred along Russia’s so called mega thrust fault,” Colbert said, joking, “it’s the mega thrust fault, which is right next to hump master Canyon and the Cape of I had a big dinner. Can we just watch Gilded Age?”

“The footage is pretty intense. Check out this video of the earthquake hitting right in the middle of someone’s surgery. And if you look closely, you’ll see there, it just jumps right there. There, it skips that missing footage. That missing footage, that’s when the government sent the earthquake to kill Jeffrey Epstein,” Colbert joked, adding, “allegedly, allegedly.”

Chris Hayes Says He’s ‘Trying to Be Rational’ About Epstein but Trump Officials Are ‘Being Weird’ | Video

Chris Hayes assured his audience on on Wednesday’s episode of MSNBC’s “All In” that “I’m trying to be rational” about Jeffrey Epstein and the various mysteries and conspiracy theories connected to his life and death. The problem for him is the Trump administration. “They’re being weird” about it all, Hayes explained.

The genesis of that thought was the CBS report about the so-called “raw footage” from Epstein’s cell prior to his 2019 death by an apparent suicide at the Metropolitan Correctional Facility in New York City. Trump officials insisted, when the video was made public 3 weeks ago, that it proved there was nothing sinister about his death. At that time, Wired magazine identified proof that the video had in fact been doctored, and now CBS News has identified “multiple inconsistencies” between the administration’s claims and the video itself, and officials “appears to have drawn conclusions from the video that are not readily observable” from watching it.

Hayes began his discussion of it saying, “every day, more questions are being raised about that Jeffrey Epstein prison cell video the Department of Justice and the FBI released with great fanfare. ‘Look how transparent we’re being.’ They described it as the full raw surveillance video from the camera near the child sex trafficker’s prison cell the night before he was found dead. It was their so-called ‘Look. Here’s the video.'”

“Right away, people noticed at least a minute was missing,” Hayes continued. “Now the explanation Attorney General Pam Bonnie gave didn’t make that much sense, something about a tech glitch. And the FBI actually has in its possession a copy of the video with the missing footage. So what exactly is going on?… I just want to start off in saying my inclination is not to think that they edited the video and that he was murdered in his prison cell. I think he probably did kill himself. I’m trying to be like rational about all this, but it’s they’re being weird.”

Hayes then played a video clip of Attorney General Pam Bondi saying, “The video was not conclusive, but the evidence prior to it was showing he committed suicide, and what was on that there was a minute that was off the counter. And what we learned from Bureau of Prisons was, every year, every night, they redo that video is old from like 1999 so every night the video is reset, and every night should have the same minute missing, so we’re looking for that video.”

Afterward, Hayes said to the segment’s guest, Bulwark reporter Will Sommer, “now CBS reports there’s a version of the full video. So was she lying about that? Like, what? What’s going on?”

“With so much of this Epstein situation, there are all these unanswered questions, and the government in its attempts to close the case, keeps creating more questions,” Sommer said in part. “On one hand, we were promised here, ‘the full and raw footage,’ were their words, and now they’re saying initially, as you said, she said, they’re, well, oh yeah, there’s one minute missing, which we, by the way, forgot to mention initially, and now it’s reported that there is a minute, and there’s all these other the metadata suggests that there’s, in fact, maybe three minutes that were missing, or maybe the tape was weirdly sped up. So there are all these issues that the government really is is just seems to be in no rush to answer.”

The discussion continues from there, and you can watch the whole thing below:

Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails Basically Just Traded Drummers

Josh Freese’s unexpected exit from the Foo Fighters may have hurt, but it didn’t throw a monkey wrench into his career: No pretender, the drummer is set to rejoin Nine Inch Nails, whose current drummer, Ilan Rubin, will now learn to fly with the Foo Fighters.

It wasn’t planned as a trade, but it worked out that way – and in times like these, each band can now wish that they get the best of their respective timekeepers.

The Foo Fighters named Rubin their new drummer on Wednesday, according to multiple media reports citing unnamed sources. Rubin, the longtime touring drummer for Nine Inch Nails, was inducted with the band to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.

Freese replaced the Foos’ founding drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2023, but was asked to walk in May for creative-difference reasons that were not made public. Freese said he was “shocked and disappointed” – but to say he was angry would be a terrible lie, as he wished his heroes well.

And it wasn’t everlong before Freese found a familiar hand that feeds.

Freese had previously played with Nine Inch Nails’ live tour from 2005 to 2008, but stepped away when he became a father to focus on his family. NIN confirmed Wednesday that Freese, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are, once again, all in this together – but only with a celebratory Instagram story.

And if your head isn’t already like a hole, it was Rubin who replaced Freese in 2009. Since it now seems that every day is exactly the same with these bands, he will do so again – but this time with Dave Grohl and his fellow Fighters.

The timing couldn’t be closer: Both bands are set for major tours, as NIN kicks off its Peel It Back tour next month, while the Foo Fighters will spend all their life on the road starting in October.

‘South Park’ Season 27 Premiere Nabs Almost 6 Million Viewers Across Platforms, Biggest Linear Share Since 1999

The “South Park” Season 27 premiere controversy paid off with impressive viewership. The episode scored 5.9 million viewers across Comedy Central and Paramount+ in its first three days, according to Nielsen and internal data.

The episode, titled “Sermon on the ‘Mount” and featuring a viral takedown of President Trump and Comedy Central parent company Paramount Global, earned “South Park” its biggest linear season premiere share since 1999 with 9.20. The share also marked a 68% increase from the Season 26 premiere in 2023, which scored a 5.48. It also marked the show’s best season premiere rating since 2022 with a 0.996, up 15% from the Season 26 premiere rating of 0.866.

The episode ended as the No. 1 telecast across cable on its premiere night on July 23.

The ratings success of the return of Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s animated comedy should come as no surprise, as it quickly became a viral sensation upon its premiere. Paramount boasted that the premiere episode was the show’s biggest episode ever across social channels, and also the most-talked about TV series on its premiere night.

“South Park” also trended on X for over 12 hours, ranking No. 1 for five hours. The episode was shared in full across social media upon its release, and key clips were shared on YouTube and on the South park Studios site, giving even bigger visibility to the bombshell episode.

“Sermon on the ‘Mount” poked fun at Trump and his settlement with Paramount Global over a “60 Minutes” lawsuit. The bold installment featured a fake PSA featuring a not-entirely-AI naked Trump frolicking in the desert, the result of a settlement between the president and the town at the center of the series.

“South Park” returns with a new episode Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. An encore airing of the premiere is set to air this Wednesday.

Media Columnist Erik Wemple Takes Washington Post Buyout, Will Join New York Times in September

Joining the growing exodus of talent at the Washington Post, media columnist Erik Wemple announced on Wednesday he has accepted a buyout offer and is leaving — and will be joining the New York Times business section in September.

In addition, Oliver Darcy reported Wednesday night that deputy editors Mike Semel, Ann Gerhart and Monica Norton, as well as deputy opinion editor Stephen Stromberg and sports columnist Sally Jenkins have also accepted buyouts and are leaving the publication. As of this writing none of them have publicly announced their exits but according to Darcy, Jenkins is also headed to NYT to work for The Athletic.

“After 14 very, very happy years writing opinions on media at the Washington Post, I am taking the newspaper’s buyout offer. In September, I will begin work at the New York Times covering media from Washington for the paper’s Business section,” Wemple wrote on social media.

Wemple joined the times in 2011 and among his notable work there, in 2020 he exposed numerous falsehoods in an Atlantic feature written by Ruth Shalit Barrett.

He’s only the latest of WaPo’s roster of stars to bolt as the paper’s opinion section and journalistic mission are being revamped to effectively reflect owner Jeff Bezos’ own political preferences. As part of this, CEO Will Lewis is actively encouraging anyone who disagrees with the new direction to leave.

Among those who have are fact checker Glenn Kessler, a 26-year Post veteran who announced Monday he had accepted a buyout offer. And last week, Columnists Catherine Rampell and Jonathan Capehart accepted buyouts, and Dave Jorgenson, WaPo’s “TikTok Guy,” also announced he was leaving.

They follow opinion editor David Shipley, who resigned immediately after the paper’s new direction was announced, and columnist Ruth Marcus, who quit after40 years when a column she wrote expressing skepticism about the new direction was, in her words, “spiked.”

Ziff Davis Lays Off 23 Across CNET, Mashable and More

Ziff Davis announced it was laying off 23 people across a number of its sites Wednesday in the latest media force reduction of 2025.

A statement from the Ziff Davis Creators Guild and the News Guild of New York revealed 23 people from Lifehacker, Mashable, ZDNet, and particularly CNET were being laid off. CNET in particular is facing the hardest cuts just a year after being acquired by Ziff Davis for $100 million.

“Under CNET’s previous owner, Red Ventures, CNET editorial workers faced three major rounds of layoffs in two years, including the gutting of its essential news and culture teams in 2023,” the statement read. “At a time when CNET is still building back its reputation after a damaging AI scandal under Red Ventures, Ziff’s decision to further undermine CNET’s human authority is disturbing.”

The statement continued: “It’s clear what’s truly motivating Ziff Davis executives’ decision to lay off our colleagues: maximizing corporate profits and greed to the detriment of our members, while dismantling the structures that preserve the quality of our work. This massive reduction in force is the direct result of Ziff Davis’ poor management and decision-making, choosing to prioritize anything but investing in the workers who keep its existing brands running.”

The Ziff Davis announcement is only the latest in a troubling 2025 trend of media layoffs. Just last week, the Chicago Tribune announced it was cutting 8 people, or 10% of its newsroom staff. IndieWire, Forbes, VoxThe Washington Post,  Scripps and the Huffington Post are just some of the outlets that have laid off employees in 2025.

TheWrap’s previous reporting shows a marked increase in media job cuts in recent years. Between 2021 and 2022 there were 7,735 job cuts, a figure that skyrocketed 368% to 36,206 cuts between 2023 and 2024.

‘Building the Band’ Star Alison Ogden Praises Liam Payne for Paying It Forward as She Goes Solo

For those who tuned in to Netflix’s “Building the Band,” there’s no denying that Alison Ogden was the narrator of the season — if not the outright main character. Despite her band Sweet Seduction falling short of making the finals, the singer made her presence known with her drive, talent and divisive personality.

Following last week’s Season 1 finale, Alison opened up to TheWrap about where she stands with her (former) Sweet Seduction bandmates, her fellow competitors, the people who didn’t get picked and even the judges, including late One Direction singer Liam Payne.

“Obviously, he was just — it actually feels so horrible to say ‘was’ — but he was such an incredible artist and creative force in the industry from such a young age, and he really shaped so much of what we expect from boy bands. He played such a transformative role in the music industry, in my opinion, and I know he influenced me heavily growing up, as well as millions and millions of people,” Alison shared. “He had a lot of really incredible insight to provide. And I thought it was really cool that he and Nicole [Scherzinger] were on the show together, because she was there helping create One Direction. Full-circle moment. He was just so nice and so humble and normal to talk to, as normal as can be.”

“The kind of advice that he was able to provide us with was really different from the other judges. All of them had incredible advice, but I really enjoyed his perspective on things,” she added. “A lot of the notes were on, like, the technicality of things and the vocals and the outfits and the wardrobe and the choreo, but he really honed in on being you and forming strong connections and that being the foundation to lay the groundwork on.”

Indeed, Payne got his start in music on “The X Factor” Series 7 in 2010 when he was put into 1D alongside Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik, all of whom had auditioned as soloists.

“His perspective and his life experience, with how he got started, is so similar to ours, I feel like we were all able to connect with him in that way, which was really, really valuable,” Alison said. “I was absolutely heartbroken to hear about the news, just devastated for everybody that knew him personally and loved him. I didn’t know him as well as anyone that was in his day-to-day life, but it was very impactful to get to work with him, and I feel really blessed to have been able to do so.”

In addition to Payne and Scherzinger, “Building the Band” also featured Kelly Rowland and AJ McLean. In the end, their expert advice helped Brianna, Nori and Wennely win the competition as 3QUENCY. But where does Alison stand with Elise and Haley nowadays?

“Sweet Seduction, unfortunately, is no longer going to be a band. I know in our last episode where we got sent home we said it would be silly to think that we wouldn’t stick together – and I really did, truly have hopes of staying together. They’re both such incredibly talented women, so I definitely did want that to work out, but it’s OK that it didn’t,” she revealed. “I mean, I had been pursuing a solo career prior to wanting to be in a band, so I’m just going to continue on with that and take new strides and learn from the experience. I feel like it really did unlock a new side of myself with performing as a whole and feeling so much more comfortable on stage and really being me on stage, so I feel more safe to authentically pursue my artistry. There are some new collabs coming, and some are a little surprising, so I’m excited about that.”

One collaboration already occurs on her new single, “sweet surrender,” which she wrote with fellow cast member Mandy.

“I’m very much an ‘everything happens the way that it’s supposed to’ kind of person. So I wouldn’t say that I would change the band that I formed by any means, because there were so many lessons to be learned from the band that I did end up forming. I’m just trying to learn from the experience as a whole, and move forward and be better at every aspect of everything – that’s all we can really do for ourselves at the end of the day,” Alison explained. “But, I mean, I adored Mandy and Cece. We all went to the club the other day together and I’ve been hanging out with Mandy a lot because she lives so close to me. Cece’s in New York, so I don’t get to see her as often. But, I love working on music with them, so I don’t think that that’s going to stop anytime soon, regardless if we’re in a band.”

The singer’s friends from the show include Mandy, Landon, Cameron, Aaliyah, Cece, Malik … and even Conor, believe it or not.

“I do wish that more of the positive interactions between everyone in Sweet Seduction got to be shown, because there were so many really sweet, fun, girly, kiki moments. Especially with Haley, I felt very, very, very close to her. So I wish that you guys got to see a little bit more of the deep conversations that we were all having and the bonding moments,” Alison said. “I also wish they had shown a little bit more about Conor and me, because I feel like it looks like we hung out one time and then we were, like, smitten kittens. But no, there was a lot more going on behind the scenes.”

“We’ve decided just to be friends now. We live so far away from one another, but we both have a lot of respect for each other and everything on the show was entirely genuine,” she continued. “I was 100% not expecting to get any sort of relationship out of going on the show. Being the kind of person I am — being so eye on the prize — I was very surprised by myself for even just opening up to that. It takes me a really, really long time with relationships to feel comfortable, I’m not a huge dater, I don’t always have a boyfriend, that’s just not me. I don’t know, I’m very picky with people that I like, I’ll be honest. I think that’s a good thing. But no, it was all entirely genuine. I just felt really seen and heard by him, and I hope that he felt the same way with me. I mean, we got really close really fast, and I promise I was not trying to distract him. I just genuinely liked him.”

And, yes, they tested out their connection away from the cameras (and away from their Sweet Seduction and Midnight ’til Morning bandmates).

“I was trying my best to compartmentalize everything so I could stay focused. Obviously, Midnight ’til Morning was next to get sent home after Sweet Seduction, so at that point I was like telling him that I’m going to go around Europe on vacation by myself,” Alison recalled. “Paris first, then Germany, and then Italy. I made my little Europe tour. I invited Haley and Elise, but I don’t think [they’re] actually going to go, so like, I guess I can go alone, dropping the breadcrumb.”

“I’m, like, praying that he would ask, and then he was like, ‘I mean, I would love to go to Paris, not to sound too forward, but can I come?’ So then I just got a hotel in Manchester after we finished filming and then went to Paris,” she further noted. “I don’t remember the exact amount of time, but it was really fun. We talked the whole time that I was in Europe.”

“Eventually, things fizzled a little bit just because we live so far and the time difference is really difficult, but we’ve spent a lot of time within the past few weeks in group settings, so that’s been really nice to get to reconnect and catch up,” Alison concluded. “We’ve decided to just be friends, because I think that’s probably, mutually, the best way to move forward. But we both have a lot of respect for each other and want the best for one another, so I’m happy with the way that things fell.”

“Building the Band” Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.

Dave Franco Explains How His Crotch Dislocated Zac Efron’s Thumb on ‘Neighbors’: ‘Definitely Wasn’t Because My Penis Was Hard’ | Video

Dave Franco finally addressed the years-long rumor that Zac Efron broke his hand while grabbing his crotch filming a scene from the 2014 hit comedy “Neighbors.” Turns out it was probably a dislocated thumb, but everything else is correct.

Efron first shared the anecdote on a 2014 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The actor joked that he broke his hand because Franco had “balls of steel.”

While appearing on Wednesday’s episode of “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper asked Franco to confirm the story and wondered how Efron could have broken his hand “filming a scene where he grabs your penis.” After the “Together” star admitted it was indeed true, she asked for more details about what could have possibly happened.

“It definitely wasn’t because my penis was hard,” Franco began with a laugh.

“Good to clarify,” Cooper added.

“Yeah. I’m trying to remember if I was wearing a cup and he came in just really strong,” he continued. “I think it was a dislocated thumb to be fair, but it, it happened. There’s a scene where I think we’re both grabbing each other’s crotches at the same time. And I just think he came in with enough force from the wrong angle.”

Cooper said it was a beautiful anecdote the two actors shared before adding she thinks most people would assume that Franco was “just randomly hard on set.”

At that, the “Now You See Me” actor regained his memory of the context of the story and the plot of the film.

The character actually, now that I think about it, not to walk through the whole synopsis of ‘Neighbors’ in this interview, but he grabs my crotch and we’re both holding on like who’s gonna let go first and then my character actually to get him to let go, I have a trick where I go Zen and I know how to get hard on cue. So, I do get hard in this hand. That’s what makes him let go,” he said.

“And can you do that in your real life?” Cooper asked as a joke to which Franco answered “No” with a laugh.

“Neighbors” was a hit buddy comedy starring Efron and Franco as two fraternity brothers whose world is rocked when Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne move into the house next door with their small baby. All four actors reprised their roles in 2016’s “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.” Franco’s latest film “Together” is a body horror romance and stars his real life spouse Alison Brie.

You can watch the full “Call Her Daddy” episode in the video above.

Colbert Jokes the Grand Canyon Should Be Called ‘Donald’s Gaping Hole’ if Kennedy Center Is Renamed for Trump | Video

Stephen Colbert had a little fun during his monologue on Tuesday speculating about what else could be renamed for Donald Trump following some congressional Republicans’ attempt to .

But before he declared that the Grand Canyon could be known as “Donald’s Gaping Hole,” Colbert joked that living in America these days is a lot like being the passenger in a car with a drunk driver.

“I read once that if you’re a passenger in an auto accident, it helps if you’re just a little drunk, because and this evidence of the science backs this up, if a drunk passenger is a little loose, and if you’re a little looser, you’re less likely to get severely injured than if you were to tense up right before impact,” Colbert said. “Which brings me to our president. I think at this point, it would help if you’re all just a little drunk, because maybe then, it wouldn’t be so painful when he drives the world into a telephone pole.”

“We all know that he’s crazy, but some of the crazy stuff is just to distract us from the crazier stuff. And maybe we should stop trying to stop every crazy, because stopping some of the crazy makes the crazy stuff seem less crazy than you could possibly craze. And let’s face it, let’s face it, if you think we’re going to stop all the crazy, you’re cray-cray,” Colbert continued.

Then he explained how some House Republicans want to rename the Kennedy Center.

“I’m sensing you don’t like that,” Colbert quipped when his audience booed.

“Clearly you are not eager to see Kid Rock dance ‘The Nutcracker,’ but the bill’s sponsor says that Trump is a patron of the arts and a staple of the pop culture landscape. I’m sorry, but it’s true, Trump is a staple of pop culture. Just last week, he was great on ‘South Park,'” Colbert added, referencing last week’s “South Park” season premiere that depicted Trump in a sexual relationship with Satan, and ended with a parody PSA mocking Trump and Paramount.

“Now it’s true that two months after Kennedy’s 1963 assassination, Congress passed legislation renaming the National Cultural Center as a living memorial to Kennedy. That was a long time ago. You know what they say about those who forget the past? They name stuff after Donald Trump. So let’s just rip the band aid off and rename everything. The Washington Monument will become ‘my big, pointy penis,’ and the Grand Canyon will become ‘Donald’s Gaping Hole,'” Colbert joked.
