Colbert Combines Golden Globes Gushing With Being Terrified About Possible War With Iran (Video)
Stephen Colbert and “The Late Show” returned from Christmas vacation on Monday, and in his first monologue in weeks, he recapped the Golden Globe awards and, at the same time, freaked out over the possibility we’d end up in a war with Iran.
“The 77th Annual Golden Globes — it was a dazzling night of glitz and glamour, and God help us, we might be going to war with Iran,” Colbert joked right off the bat. “All the stars were there as we inch closer to yet another tragically ill-considered military conflict, including Salma Hayek, whose Gucci dress featured a neckline that didn’t leave much to the imagination — unless you’re imagining an endless quagmire in the Middle East.”
The jokes referred to, of course, Sunday night’s Golden Globes awards, as well as the rising tensions in the Middle East following a U.S. military drone strike against a convoy in Baghdad that killed Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani.

“Because this is what’s been keeping you up at night for the last three years,” Colbert continued. “It wasn’t the baggy suits. It wasn’t covfefe. It was his ability to wage war without understanding the consequences. And no one can stop him.”
“Also,” Colbert added, “congratulations to Awkwafina for snatching a Globe for best actress. Well-deserved.”
Colbert then rolled out what he described as “the first installment of our long-running segment: ‘America at whaaa? Crisis with Iran. In Iraq. About Iran.'”

During the gag, Colbert noted that among other nerve-wracking statements Trump has made since the assassination of Soleimani, the president also implied that future military actions might be taken in revenge for the 1979-1981 Iranian hostage crisis.
“He’s still mad about the Iranian hostage crisis? What’s next on his 1980s agenda?” Colbert asked. Then, switching into his Trump impression, he said: “I’m also targeting the top four Iranian generals — one for all three men and a baby — six different regions — one for each side of a Rubik’s Cube. And, I have officially changed the launch codes to 9675309.”

‘Wheel of Fortune': Pat Sajak’s Daughter Fills in as Letter-Turner (Video)
Vanna White is still filling in as “Wheel of Fortune” host in Pat Sajak’s absence, so a special guest has been brought on as letter-turner. Pat’s daughter Maggie Sajak will reveal the letters this week. Next week, her father and White will return to their usual roles.
The official “Wheel of Fortune” Twitter account made the announcement Monday evening.
“We’re keeping it in the family — meet our special guest letter-turner, Maggie Sajak!” the post read, with the hashtags family and family time.
Maggie is Sajak’s youngest daughter with wife Lesly. She turned 25 on Sunday, so she was 24 when these episodes were taped. He also has a son, Patrick.
In an interview last month, Pat said that his emergency surgery due to an intestinal issue was “completely successful.”
“I was back from surgery last week and had a wonderful time on the show,” Pat in a special taped announcement. “I’m not going to be here this week. It’s not that I’ve had a relapse, it’s just because of the technicalities of the taping order.”
The Sajak-hosted episodes will start airing next week. White has been hosting episodes airing since Dec. 9, 2019.

Sajak seemed quite proud of his daughter’s letter-turning debut, tweeting Monday, “I like the new puzzle person.”
It wasn’t Maggie’s first time on the show; she appeared as a baby back in 1996.

Marcy Ross to Exit as Skydance TV President
Skydance Television president Marcy Ross is stepping down from her post. Ross will segue to a producing deal with the indie studio.
She will remain as an executive producer on the ongoing Skydance TV series she had already developed, including “Grace and Frankie,” “Altered Carbon,” “Condor,” “Foundation” and “Jack Ryan.” Ross had been in her role for the last six and a half years, helping to launch the TV division of David Ellison’s film production and financing company.
Skydance Media chief creative officer Dana Goldberg will take over for Ross on an interim basis.

“Six and a half years ago, we had the idea to expand Skydance beyond film into television. Marcy took that idea and through her leadership forged Skydance Television into a reality from the ground up,” Ellison said. “She was responsible for building a bold slate of exciting series such as ‘Grace and Frankie,’ ‘Jack Ryan’ and ‘Altered Carbon’ just to name a few. I’m extremely grateful for her friendship and am pleased we will continue to work with Marcy in her new role as a producer and creator, where I know together we’ll continue to have even more success.”
Prior to Skydance, Ross served as executive vice president of current Programming at Fox.
“Over the past six and a half years, together we have built Skydance Television into a creative haven for writers, actors and directors. I have worked alongside you, the most talented team of executives — some of whom were even with me on day one in our little bungalow on the Paramount lot. We have so much to be proud of — seven seasons of ‘Grace and Frankie,’ ‘Altered Carbon,’ ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,’ ‘Foundation,’ ‘Condor’ –and many exceptional projects in development that are poised for the next wave of pickups,” Ross said in her memo to staff announcing the news.
“Anyone who knows me well knows that I am happiest when I’m in a room with talent — with ideas flying and creating worlds — or on a set, rolling up my sleeves and problem solving. Being in the moment, working closely with artists, is my happy place and that is what I want for my next chapter.”
Deadline first reported the news.

‘Jeopardy!': You Know James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings, but Who Is Brad Rutter?
“Jeopardy!” fans, James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings are, no doubt, two names you won’t soon forget, since, collectively, they’ve won more than $6 million on the quiz show. But who is Brad Rutter, the third contestant in the epic battle for the title of “Jeopardy! Greatest of All Time“? Fact is, he’s the one person who has won more money on the show than both of them.
Rutter is the man to beat if Holzhauer and Jennings are looking to nab that “greatest” title.
Holzhauer, the trivia-wizard who swept up a 32-day winnings streak last season, and Jennings, the record-holder for highest winnings in regular-season play and most games won overall, will be facing-off with Rutter in ABC’s multi-night competition starting Jan. 7, and keep going until one of them wins three games.
Also Read: Alex Trebek Has Planned His 'Jeopardy!' Exit Speech: 'Leave Me 30 Seconds at the End' (Video)
Rutter holds the record for the highest-earning American game show contestant of all time. He first appeared on “Jeopardy!” in 2000, where he became a 5-day champion, taking home $55,102, a spot in the following year’s Tournament of Champions, and a brand-new car — at the time, that was still a prize contestants could win.
He went on to win $100,000 in the 2001 Tournament of Champions, and then he took home $1,000,000 in 2002 as the winner of the Million Dollar Masters Tournament, making him the highest overall “Jeopardy!” money winner at the time.
In 2003, the rules of the game changed to get rid of the 5-game winning cap, giving way for Jennings to achieve his 74-game winning streak in 2004 and edging him ahead of Rutter as the new highest-overall money winner in the game. And there thus the rivalry between Rutter and Jennings began.

The two went on to compete head-to-head in 2005 at the Ultimate Tournament of Champions, where Rutter won the $2,100,000 prize, defeating Jennings and Jerome Vered and taking back the title of highest “Jeopardy!” money winner — as well as earning him the highest-ever money winner on any American game show, which he still holds.
If history tells us anything, Rutter stands a good chance in this week’s competition, as he has historically faired the best in special tournaments. Jennings, however, remains the champion of regular-season play, having won the most consecutive games and holding the record for highest-winnings in regular-season play with $2,520,700. Jennings’ overall winnings amount to $3,370,700 including tournaments, while Rutter’s overall winnings amount to $4,688,436, according to Jeopardy’s website.
Holzhauer remains 2019’s golden boy, and currently holds the all-time record for highest winnings in a single game with $131,127. His overall winnings currently stand at $2,712,216.
“Jeopardy! Greatest of All Time” night one begins on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. on your local ABC station.

Timothée Chalamet to Play Bob Dylan in James Mangold-Directed Biopic for Fox Searchlight
“Little Women” leading man Timothée Chalamet is in talks to star as folk music icon Bob Dylan in a biopic directed by “Ford v. Ferrari” director James Mangold.
The film, which is still untitled at this point, will follow Dylan during his ascension to the pinnacle of folk music and his 180 degree turn, trading in his acoustic guitar for an electric and embrace rock ‘n’ roll.
Chalamet starring is not a done deal, but Fox Searchlight has finalized a deal for the film.
In addition to “Little Women,” Chalamet starred in Netflix’s “The King” as well as “A Rainy Day in New York” in 2019. This year, as one of the most sought after young actors in Hollywood, he will appear in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” and Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” which is also set up at Fox Searchlight.

Mangold’s latest film, “Ford v. Ferrari,” received rave reviews and garnered more than $206 million at the box office worldwide.
Music biopics, as of late, have been a stable at award shows, earning the actors portraying music icons nominations for their lead roles. Most recently Taron Egerton won the Golden Globe for his performance as Elton John in “Rocketman” and last year Rami Malek took home the best actor Oscar for “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
The film will be produced by Jeff Rosen (Dyan’s longtime manager) along with Veritas Entertainment Group’s Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer and Peter Jaysen; Automatik’s Fred Berger; The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Mangold.
Dylan will serve as an executive producer along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Andrew Rona.

Harvey Weinstein’s Criminal Trial Starts Monday – Here’s What to Expect
Harvey Weinstein’s criminal trial in New York County’s Supreme Court will begin on Monday — over two years after The New York Times and The New Yorker first broke stories about the disgraced movie mogul’s behavior toward women.
The entire trial, including jury selection, is expected to last eight weeks, a spokesperson for the New York State Unified Court System told The Wrap. On the first day, Jan. 6, Justice James Burke, the presiding judge, will outline an approximate schedule for the trial. Jury selection will begin on Tuesday and is expected to last about two weeks. Once the jury has been set, the trial will begin with opening statements.
Weinstein, who pleaded not guilty at his first indictment in August, faces five felony counts: two counts of predatory sexual assault, one count of first-degree criminal sexual assault, one count of first-degree rape and one count of third-degree rape. The charges stem from accusations by Mimi Haleyi and a still-unnamed woman for encounters they say occurred in 2006 and and 2013.
Also Read: Harvey Weinstein Served With New Lawsuit, Accused of Sexually Assaulting 16-Year-Old Model
In addition, three other accusers are expected to testify in the courtroom, including Annabella Sciorra, the actress who has accused Weinstein of raping her 26 years ago. While Weinstein cannot be charged for any activity connected to Sciorra’s accusations, since they fall outside of New York state’s statute of limitations, her testimony could be used to strengthen the district attorney’s case against Weinstein by showing a pattern of predatory behavior.
A representative for Time’s Up told The Wrap last week that the organization does not have any “ground activations” planned at the moment in response to the trial, but an online petition has been launched for anyone looking to share words of support to survivors taking the stand.
“We would not be in this historic moment without the courage and conviction of these survivors, who risked everything — their jobs, their careers, and their personal sense of security — to call out sexual assault and harassment and begin to expose behavior that workers for generations have silently endured,” Tina Tchen, the president and CEO of Time’s Up, told The Wrap. “Before they came forward, the scope and magnitude of the problem was hidden. Two years later, they have ignited an unstoppable movement for change that cannot be ignored.”
Also Read: LA District Attorney Is Reviewing 8 Accusations of Sexual Misconduct Against Harvey Weinstein
The criminal trial is not connected to the tentative $25 million settlement that Weinstein and The Weinstein Company (and its insurers) recently reached with more than 30 of his accusers.
In addition, Weinstein still could face prosecution in Los Angeles, whose district attorney is reviewing eight accusations of sexual misconduct against the former producer. Although two accusations were filed in the last few months, most have been under review since early 2018 — two of the Beverly Hills cases were submitted in January 2018, followed by a third in June of that year. Three of the LAPD cases were submitted in February 2018.
No criminal charges have been filed in L.A., and there is no timetable for when a decision might be made on whether charges will or won’t be filed.

Golden Globes 2020: Joaquin Phoenix Thanks the HFPA For Vegan Dinner and 6 Moments You Didn’t See on TV
“1917” won two surprise awards, Ellen DeGeneres and Tom Hanks were among several who gave emotional and political speeches, and Ricky Gervais could not wait for the finish line, but the 2020 Golden Globes didn’t end there.
Here are 7 things you missed from the broadcast.
Joaquin Phoenix Thanks HFPA For Vegan Dinner
Joaquin Phoenix did not expect to be backstage in the press room after winning his Golden Globe for “Joker.” Phoenix said he was “pranked” and pushed into the room, and he seemed a bit perplexed that a room full of journalists would have been waiting here all night.
“Did they even feed you?” he asked the gallery from the stage. “There’s more space in here than there was in there, so I hope you’re doing alright.”
But one of the stories of the night was the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s decision to make the dinner – for both the attendees and the press room – completely vegan and plant-based. Phoenix praised the HFPA for the move and urged the other awards shows, including the Critics’ Choice Awards, the SAG Awards and the Governors’ Ball, to do the same.

“This is the first time I’ve ever eaten the food at this ceremony. I thought it was excellent,” adding that he was “moved” by the decision. “I’ve never been so proud to attend an awards show as I was tonight.”
Ramy Youssef Was Going to Thank His God Anyway
Ricky Gervais turned some heads with his bleeped monologue joke, telling Hollywood to “accept your award, thank your agent and your god and f— off,” and as the first winner of the night, the Muslim star of “Ramy” Ramy Youssef was quick to do just that, thanking his god and saying “Allahu Akbar.”
Though backstage he said he was planning on doing that regardless of Gervais’ quip. While Gervais may famously be atheist, Youssef said he’s a man of faith.
“I’m very thankful to God and my show is about someone who believes in their faith,” Youssef said. “So I naturally don’t always feel like I’m on the same page with the comedic style of Ricky Gervais on that subject, although the Epstein thing was really funny. But yeah, that was something that is sincere.”

Brian Cox Met Elisabeth Murdoch’s Husband
“Succession” star Brian Cox was very clear about one thing in the press room: he is not playing Rupert Murdoch.
“I am playing Logan Roy. Logan Roy is totally our creation. Rupert Murdoch has f— all to do with it, and you can quote me on that,” he said backstage in the Globes press room.
That hasn’t however prevented the Murdochs from sharing their opinions with Cox on the show. Cox revealed that while in a cafe in London, he met a man who said they’re “loving the show.” The man then revealed that he’s actually Elisabeth Murdoch’s husband, and he had a small request.
“Can you go easier on her next season,” he told Cox. “We’ll do our best,” he replied.

Ellen DeGeneres Continued Her Powerful Words Backstage
Everyone from Laura Dern to Phoebe Waller-Bridge praised Ellen DeGeneres’ acceptance speech for the Carol Burnett award as they talked to the press, but DeGeneres herself had a few more words – and another shout out to her “husband” – in a quick appearance backstage.
“I think I am really happy for every single thing that happened in my life. I am happy for the people that didn’t support me,” DeGeneres said. “I’m happy for the times that were the hardest times of my life because I feel like that’s what makes you. If everything is easy, you don’t really have anything to compare it to. So I’m really grateful for all of the hard times, all of the things that didn’t work out the way I wanted them to work out, and I feel bad for people that have everything working all the time because that’s just not life. Life doesn’t work that way. So I’m just grateful for my journey and, of course, my husband Mark.”

Stellan Skarsgard Would “Consider” a “Mamma Mia 3”
Yep. If there should ever be a reason for one, as he was asked. “I mean, I don’t think I even consider it working doing those films because we have so much fun together. So I would consider doing it, yes,” he replied.
Next however Skarsgard says he’s doing a small film with a Chinese director that he’s not allowed to speak about just yet.
Tom Hanks Is Sick, But Still Charming
“I’m not in this for power, although I have some. I’m not in it for money, though man, am I rich,” Tom Hanks said to the journalists in the press room, reminding them that he was still sick but was glad to be backstage with this group.
His performance as Mister Rogers didn’t win him a competitive Golden Globe, so now everyone’s thinking about what’s next for him. What he’d really like to do is play “you” next, as in the person who asked him the question. But he did tease his upcoming project with Baz Luhrmann where he’ll play Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
“I will have answers to all your questions about why I’ve never played a bad guy. I think I’m about to do that,” Hanks said.

Dexter Fletcher “Heckled” Taron Egerton in the Press Room
In the parade of stars who filtered through the press room after the show ended, “Rocketman” director Dexter Fletcher managed to sneak into the gallery where all the reporters were sitting and shouted at his star Taron Egerton about how “amazing” and “brilliant” Egerton was, all while Egerton tried to answer questions on stage.
Egerton himself was a little distracted as well, as he took a moment before jumping on stage to shake Renée Zellweger’s hands and introduce himself as the two were crossing paths.
