L. Starla's May 2022
I’ve been crazy busy this last month, editing two manuscripts whilst writing the fifth instalment of the Winter’s Magic series.

At least I was able to relax and enjoy my Mother’s Day thanks to my lovely boy and wonderful husband. They spoiled me with a pancake breakfast, some thoughtful gifts, and lamb shanks for dinner! Yummy. We also had a lot of fun playing Stardew Valley. If you like video games and haven’t tried this one, I highly recommend! It’s a bit like a cross between Civilization and The Sims.
Winter's Thrall goes live this weekend!

• Winter's Maiden 1 (Book 1)

I did it! After much blood, sweat and tears, I finally finished drafting Undeniably Wrong, the fourth instalment of the Phoebe Braddock Books. This was the most difficult book I have written to date, partly because of how raw it made me feel, but also because I battled some serious creative burnout during the process.

Beta Reading Opportunity

Would you like to provide feedback on my latest manuscript? I'm looking for beta readers who can read Undeniably Wrong with a critical eye so that I can polish it for publication. Please note that feedback for this book is due 31st May 2022.
There are many sides to every story and Lucinda’s tale is no exception.
Lucinda’s affair damaged Adam Fairfax and it took him years to recover. Most painted her as the villain, but did anyone think to ask her why their marriage collapsed? Why did she cheat on him?
I dare you to turn back the clock and delve into a warped web of high society schemes and veiled threats. This is a world where people poison everything they touch and make a blood sport of betrayal. With all the lies and deception swirling around her like a murky swamp, it is no wonder Lucinda bought into it, letting it taint her soul and relationships. Yet none of them pose a greater risk than the shadows of her past.
Note: While this is the 4th Phoebe Braddock Book and a prequel to Crystal's Crucible, it can be read standalone.
Trigger Warnings: Cheating, sexual violence, domestic abuse, miscarriage, and sex scenes, including f/f.

L. Starla's March 2022
This has been a crazy busy month for me so far; what with racing to the finish line with my manuscript for Undeniably Wrong, hosting an awesome web panel with four other dark romance authors, consuming some culture at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, spending a full day at Adelaide Writers’ Week, and now I’m gearing up for a games’ night with friends on the eve of a state election. I’m hoping to catch a breath on Sunday.

Writer’s Week delivered another great assortment of panels. This year’s highlights included an intriguing chat about suspense and crime fiction with Christian White and J.P Pomare, and a rousing conversation about the #metoo movement in Australia with Jess Hill and Grace Tame. At the end of the day, I came away feeling inspired to smash out the last of my W.I.P.
Yes, you heard right—I finally finished the first draft of that book I had intended to complete by the end of last year. All 104,000 words of Undeniably Wrong (Phoebe Braddock Books #4) will soon be ready for beta readers. If you would like a chance to provide feedback on the beta manuscript, please apply here.

There are dark places in the world where the lines between lesser evils become too murky to distinguish.
Brendan Winters, enchanter mage, playboy, and consummate maker of poor life choices, has outdone himself once again.
In a moment of weakness, Brendan struck a deal that turned his life upside down. The filth he first witnessed in Bridey’s den of sin was just the tip of the iceberg. As her new favourite, Brendan is thrust into a world of debauchery where he learns there is no limit to his mistress’ depravity. So, when the opportunity to undermine her authority presents itself, he jumps in headfirst.
Sent to investigate a Cult of dark mages with their roots in Ancient Egypt, Brendan embarks on a collision course with organised crime, a God, and his own magical doppelganger. Yet, none of this cloak and daggers business blindsides him more than the companion he finds in the very house of his captor.
What lengths will Brendan go to for a chance to reclaim his freedom?
This book directly follows the events of Winter’s Maiden 2, so it is advisable to read that before starting this story. Review copies of Winter’s Maiden (Parts 1 & 2) are also available upon request if you need to catch up with the series so far.

Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

My husband and I tend not to buy into the commercial side of it, but we do love romancing each other on this day. We even have a tradition where we both book the day off work so we can sleep in and spend quality time together. Sometimes we go out to dinner in the evening, but often I will prepare a special meal (to give him a break from the routine cooking).
This year I am planning to cook the following recipe...
Duck Fillet with Morello Cherries

L. Starla's December 2021
This month, my son has been filling me with pride.

He recently graduated from primary school. Watching him close one chapter in his life, while preparing to open another filled me with tears of joy. Each kid in the class received a differnet Mister Men themed award and my boy was awarded Mr. Clever. I look forward to see him flourish as he grows into adulthood. Not only has excelled at school, but he is also making a name for himself in the local theatre scene with the Tea Tree Players. I have read four different reviews of this years’ pantomime that mention his name. Do we have a star in the making?

The power to protect is also the power to corrupt.
When Alannah joined The Council of Mages, she expected an exciting life of fighting crime and ridding the world of evil. This could not have been further from the truth. Buried by bureaucracy, and bored out of her brains, Alannah is almost grateful when the Council’s spotlight shines on her hometown.
An illegal potion hits the Unseelie Market, and the source gets tracked back to Gaeilge Shores. Unfortunately, this case is a little too close to home and when Alannah learns the truth, she becomes trapped within the web of lies surrounding Brendan and herself.
Amidst all the deception, Alannah and Brendan find the path to the ultimate truth. How much are they willing to risk by uncovering the secrets of the magic world? And will working for a common cause be the catalyst that finally brings them together?
