Writing Literature to Music
" Music has the power to stop the chatter in our heads, and it can shift our mood. Because music opens us to feelings, listening to it can help us get into that zone of deep concentration from which inspired work arises." This is an excerpt from a Marylee Macdonald blog titled: Music vs. Silence. As the title suggests, the author goes on to argue the merits of writing with music vs writing. But it was this line that rung true with me. The ability for music to shift my mood and inspire me to write has long been an important factor in my writing.
When writers block set in and there was no light at the end of a tunnel, one song or even one note was all it took to spark a moment of creation that can lead to an entire story.
A great example of this occurred in my most recent book, Faery: The Tiend. In Chapter 16, I was looking for a way for my main character to come around to fighting for his captors. In the struggle to find inspiration, "Never Enough" from the Greatest Showman found me. The emotions brought up by that song gave rise to an artistic scene that involved the two main characters dancing on treetops surrounded by the vibrant imagery of light. It remains one of the greatest pieces I have ever written.
Regardless of whether music can distract from productive writing, that distraction can take you and your writing to places you might never have dreamed of going. That is the beauty of writing and the beauty of music and I for one will keep on listening to music for inspiration.

Writing Faery
As a middle grade fantasy writer I am drawn to anything mysterious. Having been brought up in the west of Ireland exposed me to the poetry of W B Yeats. It is his work that has inspired me on this journey.
When I was young, I remember standing in a dark field on our farm late one night. As I was making my way home from checking some livestock, I stopped to admire the effect of the distant city lights on the night sky. The contrast of the light in the sky and the darkness around me, filled with the belief that there is life in the shadows around us. Since that moment, I have felt compelled to write a fantasy story like Faery and I am delighted to have achieved that goal. I hope that the book conveys some of that sense of wonder to those that read it.

Faery the series
Hi thanks for coming onto my page. My new book Faery:The Tiend is my debut fantasy story and my aim is for it to be book one of a series. The plan is for a second book late next year and the Third the year afterwards. Between books 1 and 2 there is a plan for a series of short stories that I am calling "world builders". All this can only happen if book 1 takes off. Please vote for my book on listopia and/or leave review on amazon. If you do the message me on twitter or facebook to let me know. In return you will get more information on the future plans and exclusive access to the aforementioned world builder stories.
