As we gather to give thanks today, let’s remember the power of community and compassion. 🍁🍂

There’s still time to join in supporting the Herren Project before November ends. Your $25 donation not only offers hope in the fight against addiction but also gives you a chance to win a lunch with me or receive a personal critique of your writing.

In this season of gratitude, let’s extend our table of thankfulness to those in need of support. Together, we can bring more stories of recovery and hope to li...

Reading—a personal odyssey, whether in the sanctuary of solitude or amidst the symphony of the outside world. 📖✨ Here’s a cozy corner in bed, a private haven for words to unfold in silence; and there, a park bench under open skies, where the pages whisper along with the rustle of leaves. Each setting has its own magic, its own rhythm. So tell me, fellow book travelers, where does your reading heart feel most at home? Is it in the quiet, personal retreats where stories become intimate friends? Or...

Stumbled upon this delightful doodle of characters from ‘ROXY’ and couldn’t help but share the joy it brings! 🖊✨ It’s a beautiful reminder that art comes in all forms, and each stroke, no matter how simple, tells a story. To all the budding artists out there, never underestimate the power of your creativity. Your drawings—doodles, sketches, masterpieces—add a unique voice to the world of storytelling. Keep expressing, keep creating, and know that your art makes a difference.

So someone asked me “Are you a "go with the flow” type of writer, or do you tend to plan things out? And how many pages of writing do you discard during the entire process of writing a novel?“

I plan things out and promptly throw away the plan while I’m writing. I usually know where the story is going, but it never gets there the way I think it will. I never “discard” pages. That would be too traumatic. Instead, I keep a side file called “cut material” and drop all unused writing in there. My cut...

“The fear of not living is a deep, abiding dread of watching your own potential decompose into irredeemable disappointment when ‘should be’ gets crushed by what is. Sometimes I think it would be easier to die than to face that, because 'what could have been’ is much more highly regarded than 'what should have been.’ Dead kids are put on pedestals, but mentally ill kids get hidden under the rug.”

Writing DRY was a wild journey! 💧💥 Exploring a world without water pushed the boundaries of my imagination. The challenge was to make it not only intense but also thought-provoking. I wanted readers to feel the urgency. If you enjoyed The Road or Station Eleven, you’ll find DRY a gripping ride through a parched future. And for those moments that make you pause and count to ten, thank you for diving into the adventure with me! 📚🌍💦
