Website - Author Spotlight
Recently, I updated my website to include an Author Spotlight page, which features a different author every month, of every genre. So far, Louise Belanger and Sharon Krasny were featured. And for the month of October, I am featuring Anna Faversham, a wonderful author of historical fiction, and a good friend.
If you would like to view her books, reviews, and author information on my website, the address is https://www.gailmeath.com
Also, if any authors are interested in being featured (a 1 month FREE spotlight), please message me and I will add you to the list!

A good cover is worth a thousand words...
Having seven completed books when I first began publishing at the end of 2019, I couldn't afford to pay a good book designer for all my books and designed covers myself. Some weren't bad...others were awful.
In January 2021, another author (I wish I could remember her name) highly recommended Luke Harris, a designer in Australia. He charged less than other pro designers so I was skeptical, also because historical romance covers aren't easy...especially if they aren't Highlander/Jane Austen type books.
I decided to have Luke design my new release, Agustina de Aragón and he made such a beautiful cover, I am slowly paying him to re-vamp my previous covers. He just finished Countess Jacqueline and I love it! I wish I had found him two years ago, he is SO worth the few hundred dollars and is wonderful to work with, making sure it is exactly what I want - even going above and beyond...sending optional covers!
If anyone is interested, Luke Harris' website is https://www.workingtype.com.au He's fabulous!

Editor's Choice - Agustina de Aragón
I found out this morning that my book, Agustina de Aragón, is listed as an Editor's Choice on the Historical Novel Society site with a wonderful review. This is such a great honor and I'm thrilled.
And with a few more votes, it could be on the Goodreads Listopia list. If you could help boost it, I would very much appreciate your vote.

Available for Free!
Three of my books are available for free with possible reviews, if you enjoy them, on Booksirens.
A dynamic and heartfelt story based upon true events that takes place during one of the most devastating wars in Europe. It captures the strength of love, unity and family, and is known as one most powerful love stories in history.
https://booksirens.com/book/M1NZU56/7...
A beautiful mule driver on the Erie Canal, the champion fighter who raised her, a half-breed Indian without a heart and an easy-going cowboy team up to track down outlaws and notoriously become known as Streeter’s Gang.
This is their beginning.

Lorraine Mansford was perfect; beautiful, popular, sophisticated and murdered.

My new friend from Spain
In a previous blog, I shared the story of a gentleman from Zaragoza, Spain contacting me with anger that I wrote a book about Agustina de Aragon, without knowing "anything". We have become friends and I was able to send him a Spanish translation of the novel. He just replied to me. I could not be happier, especially since he is an expert on the true story.
Hello Gail.
I really liked the novel, and the end result is very good.
You have a good international vision of the social political situation of the 1800s.
The story is very interesting, you know how to create tension and emotion.
You tell Agustina's love with Juan Roca in a very romantic way and with a lot of passion.
You are talented and the result is a very professional novel, with interesting phrases, "You can be loyal to your Country, but disagree with your King."
The ending has a spectacular twist. I am very grateful for sending me the novel in Spanish, and soon I will send you a gift by Gmail.
Greetings: José A.

Writing the 1st Chapter
I have to laugh. My daughter is mad at me...again. And I couldn't be happier.
As we all know, writing that first chapter of a new book is most important. You need to grip the reader immediately or risk losing their interest altogether. For me, it is one of the most difficult parts of writing a book, making sure it is just right. And I always spend far more time on that chapter than several other chapters combined.
I have been using my daughter as a guinea pig before proceeding to the next chapter (or after writing the first few chapters). Once I think the 1st chapter is finetuned, I ask her to read it and let me know what she thinks. I did that yesterday with my new book and this morning, she texted me her thoughts.
"It is perfect and gripped me right away. Are you done writing this one so I can read the rest? I want to know what happens."
Again, my answer is, "not yet" (I'm only 30 pages into it). Now, she's angry with me and told me to hurry up and finish it!
Her response hasn't always been 'perfect' after she reads the first chapter, which is why I value her opinion so much. I know her. She's her own person (why I love her so much), so she is not the type of person who would shower me, or anyone else, with undue praise simply to appease.
She is my worst critic, which makes her the very best person to use as a sounding board when writing that darn first chapter.
