100. Rock ‘n Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution – AC/DC (iPod Challenge)

Over 30 years have passed since “Back in Black” by AC/DC was released and it has reached the status of a classic in that time. Admittedly, it’s an album of simple songs, played very well and best listened to loud. Ear splittingly if possible.

Of all the songs on the album, my favorite is “Rock ‘n Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution” (which you can hear by using the embedded player up above). It’s a statement song, a song with purpose, and could even be viewed as a call to arms.

iPod Challenge

The Internet can be viewed as many things but my personal favorite is a cocktail party. In more civilized corners, social media is an excellent way for like-minded or open-minded people to gather and discuss things. I’ve been fortunate enough to make some terrific friends over the years talking about such things as comics, music, books, poetry, and so forth and so on.

Recently, a distant friend (twice removed on my CA friends side, I think) started blabbering about his 100 song iPod Challenge....

Lessons From my Father – Nonesense Verses

My father is a quiet man. Not to say he doesn’t like to talk, but there is nothing booming about his personality. He is possessed of a dry with and likes to pun, be a bit silly and doesn’t take himself seriously.

For example, as I was growing up he repeated the following bit of drivel often enough that I learned it.

“One fine day in the middle of the night,

Two dead boys got up to fight,

Back to back they faced each other,

Drew their swords and shot each other.

If you believe this tale not true,

Ask...

Found Poem #4

What should my next

Poem be about?

Hair Lit and Grunge Times,

Bare tree, a gift, ideas

For my next tattoo?

I’m not afraid

Of

Complexity

Found Poetry, Day Three

Again, I reach into the Twitter stream for words & phrases. It’s sort of like shopping to me, looking for great deals, exquisite notions and comma’s to procure in bulk. I end up selecting far more than I use at any one time, but that’s good. More for later.

Too make sure you miss a day, why not subscribe to the blog? It’s just over there, on the right. Thanks!

Found Poem #3

National Poetry Month – Day 2

Onward! Today’s offering of Found Poetry likewise comes from my Twitter feed. I’ve realized that people leave all sorts of interesting words and phrases laying about. It’s a fertile ground for the present. Also, please be advised that all entries for this month will disappear in a weeks time.

Found Poem #2

If life

Could be stuck

In this moment,

So exhausted,

So serene;

A different

Kind of lonely,

Ever shifting,

Unmappable.

National Poetry Month – Day One

This April, I will be sharing drafts of “Found Poetry” with on a definite, timely and wholly irregular basis. Which means I may miss a day, the draft may totally stink or I just plain didn’t feel like it.

Today’s Found Poem is sourced from my Twitter feed. I’ve only used words, phrases or short sentences I “found” in tweets. Enjoy. And Happy National Poetry Month!!

Approaching a Milestone: A thesis on development of musical taste.

One of my compatriots on Last.fm was pointing out that I was approaching 200,00 plays since I joined up way back in late July, 2006. Further, I was asked how Last.fm had changed or helped my musical taste evolve over time. This question intrigued me as I’d not really given a lot of thought to it. Plus, homing in on 2K plays is something of a milestone (although I want to have a party when I pass a Quarter Million. I probably won’t, but I’d like to.) and as good a time as any to reflect on the...
