More Girls Allowed!

From All Girls Allowed…some good news:

Dear Friend,

Big news! This week, the One-Child Policy saw two major challenges in wake of public outrage over Feng Jianmei's forced abortion. We are praying that this signals the end of the One-Child Policy! You can do something about it, too.

Yesterday, the European Parliament voted to pass a resolution condemning forced abortion and gendercide in China. You can read the full resolution here.

Then this morning, the Wall Street Journal reported that a group of scholars and entrepreneurs in China have issued an open letter calling upon the government to change the One-Child Policy. Businessman James Liang said, "From an economic perspective, the one-child policy is irrational. From a human rights perspective, it's even less rational."

The European Parliament's resolution likewise pointed to the one-child policy as a major factor in human rights abuses in China: "The European Parliament…condemns the practice of forced abortions and sterilizations globally, especially in the context of the one-child policy," said the final joint resolution.

We're hoping and praying that the United States Congress, UK Parliament, Canadian Parliament, and other national legislatures follow suit quickly. Will you take a few minutes to call or email your representatives?

Please join us in prayer and take action by urging Congress to adopt a similar resolution. It's time for the policy to end, and by the grace of Jesus, we all have a role to play.

Thank you for your dedication to this movement! We're praying for you and can't wait to hear from you.

With hope,

The All Girls Allowed Team

P.S. Please let your friends know about this movement! Invite them to join you in fighting to end the One-Child Policy. By spreading the word, you can multiply your efforts-and we can all act more quickly to save women and girls from forced abortion and gendercide.

Overheard at the Wright Household

Juss, chanting cheerfully in the car, "I want to be weird! I want to be weird!"

John, sounding pained, "You don't have far to go."

Me: "I picked your father because he can crush people with his brain."

Juss: "Daddy, crush me!"

Me: "I meant crush people intellectually."

Juss: "Oh. So, he doesn't have super mind powers?"

Orville Can Read!

I just sat down to do some summer reading with my eldest, as I have for many summers now. He picked up Dr. Seuss's I Had Trouble Getting To Solla Sollew, which is not one of the easier Seuss's, and just read about 20 pages. Just read it. Stumbled over one word.

Downright miraculous!

Flipped Out Like A Ninja!

So, I was actually writing this morning and son number three came to say that he was bored. I said, "Why don't you play with some of your toys."

And he made the mistake of saying, "I don't have any toys."

Folks, I'd like to say I kept my temper, but… while I did not actually flip out like a ninja, I did rather lose my temper.

So I carried through on my threat. I put all the toys in a HUGE pile in the center of the basement and made the boys sort them–putting them into bags, bins, and give away.

Juss freaked. He was practically white with fear. But….

They did it. The toys have been sorted. They now have piles of particular kinds of toys they can play with for the rest of the summer (legos, bacugan and pokemone, bey blades, imaginex, K'nex, etc.)

A job well done…just wish it hadn't happened in the middle of a writing day.

PS. When the story of "I have no toys" was repeated to Uncle Bill, Juss opined, "I was proven wrong."

Ping Ping and Avatar: Legend of Korra

Last night we were watching the new Avatar series, and the princess exclaimed in delight: "Look, my name is on the computer."

It was a scene of a guy in a mask talking on a stage. To either side was a huge Chinese character in black on red. It was the character for Ping (peace) — one on either side, so it said "Ping-Ping" (peaceful.)
