5 Ways to Unlock Your Unconscious Mind for Creative Manifestation
[Photo by jeffbergen via iStockPhoto]Say, imagine, and practice what you will create with the divine consciousness of coexistence, and your unconscious mind will align with your past, release it, and open up a new future.
Is there a part of your life about which you find yourself thinking, “There’s nothing I can do,” or “I can’t do that,” or even, “That’s impossible!” Despite the encouragement of all the self-help advice available, these thoughts can persist, keeping you spinning your wheels in a set framework.
You probably know that this framework holds you back. It keeps you from doing something amazing or from realizing your heart’s true desires.
In a sense, you’re right to think it’s impossible. If we only operate from our preconceptions, from a narrow consciousness, and don’t use all the powers of our brains, it is impossible. In order to make the impossible possible, we need to part with our words and actions of the past and access parts of our brains we don’t normally use. We have to look beyond our intellect and our memories and bring our unconscious mind into play.
In our unconscious mind lies a more complete connection to our bodies as well as a more complete connection to the divine consciousness and energy that exists in everything. With these in our corner, we can reach beyond our past and create a new future. The impossible becomes possible.
Five things we can do to bring our unconscious minds online in our daily lives:Embrace a mindset of coexistence.Coexistence and compassion characterize divine consciousness and release the energy blockages in our bodies and minds that may be holding us back. Asking ourselves, “Is this helpful for coexistence?” before we do or say anything puts us in alignment with the spirit of coexistence, helping us tap into our creative power.Move and act.
To create the impossible, we have to do rather than only think or tell. Our movement and actions, when they are done with a mindset of coexistence, bring out the energy and consciousness of our divinity. They build and grow this energy and consciousness until inspiration and creativity come naturally and easily.Have courage.
We can’t change without courage. It takes courage to move and act differently than before. It takes courage to believe in the power of coexistence and to express ourselves with nothing but love, another aspect of divine consciousness.Build muscle.
Steady muscle training builds more than our muscles. It gives us courage and action power. Our minds become clearer, and we have better judgment on what to do. We can see the way to our goals and take action.Set goals and check them.
We can’t break free if we’re bouncing around in different directions. By setting a goal and checking our progress, we are not only steadily working toward the goal but are keeping our unconscious mind aware of it. Rather than just checking off our to-do list, we can check our mindset as well. We can ask ourselves whether we are maintaining a mindset of coexistence, whether we really believe we can change, and whether we are being proactive and courageous.
As we imagine, choose, and focus on our goals in each moment with a mindset of coexistence, the divine creativity we can access through our unconscious mind will go to work. It will bring what we’ve chosen into reality through our words and actions. It will align our past, release it, and open up a new future.

All We Have Is Love
[Photo by Mint_Images via Envato Elements]Words have power. They influence our energy field, our hearts, and our brains. Here is a power phrase for you.
“All I have is love!”How do you feel when you say that? Try saying it a few times.
The moment we say, “All I have is love!”, we’re flooded with energy, and there are two effects.
Our hearts fill with love. The love in our hearts is limitless if we don’t block it. It’s love that extends from ourselves, to our family and friends, to all of humanity, and to the earth. It’s love that yearns for coexistence. All our chakras open.
The chakras are seven main energy centers in the energy system of the body. They relate to and affect every aspect of ourselves. Health and abundance come when they are open. The energy of love creates health and abundance when it opens and fills our chakras.
These effects are just the beginning. The vibration of love in our hearts and minds makes all other emotions vibrate. Emotional energy moves and releases from us, letting our minds return to the zero point. This is the point at which we are completely free and clear. We see things as they are and are not hampered by attachments or the desires of our small selves.
Love brings us to the zero point, and love explodes at the zero point. At the zero point, we are our true selves, and our true selves are love. Everything is love. Love is all we can have.
Can You Feel the Love? Can you feel and see the love? Can you realize the essence of everything? We can’t see and feel the love when we are not looking at it. Declare, “I am someone who has nothing but love!” and the love will start to show itself. Our brains get impressed when it hears, “All I have is love!” It realizes, “Wow! I’m full!” It can find positive points in any situation and can find and nurture the goodness of any person. Then, we can stay cheerful and spread that cheer. We spread love around the world.
All we have is love. Walk energetically with this mindset. Eat and sleep with this awareness. Live with this perspective. It’s the most valuable way of life.

Beyond AI: The True Power of Humanity
[Photo by megostudio via Envato Elements]Use the power of technology with the power of the uniquely human combination of empathy, conscience, and introspection.
Have you noticed that everywhere you look online, there’s an AI assistant? They help you write, make images or videos, and answer your questions. In the last couple of years, the presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in our lives has exploded. AI systems, combined with “smart” appliances and other home features, and the mini-computers that are almost constantly in our hands, has made computerized technology an intimate part of our lives. This type of technology doesn’t only make our lives more convenient; it changes how we think and interact with each other.
Today’s advanced technologies put more information than ever before at our fingertips. They allow individuals lying in their beds create content it used to take whole crews to make. And they let us see the faces of our friends and family on another continent when we talk to them. It’s easy to get caught up in the allure of instant connection and seemingly superhuman intelligence. However, we don’t need to be awed or afraid of technology’s rapidly emerging capabilities if we keep in mind some of humanity’s important and distinct characteristics: empathy, conscience, and introspection.
True connection, the kind that changes lives in a fulfilling way, requires these innate human qualities. And in a world where intellectual ability is no longer unique to humans, what we do with information and intelligence becomes increasingly important. Through the human qualities of empathy, conscience, and introspection, communication can touch hearts and intelligence can turn into wisdom.
Inject Heart into Technology, Turn Intelligence into WisdomEmpathy allows us to feel other people, other life, and other objects as if they are ourselves. It provides motivation for us to voluntarily act in ways that help others. Through introspection, we gain insight from our experience and can process information through this lens in a more profound way. Introspection goes beyond the workings of our conscious mind. It involves awareness of our body and its feelings as well as paying attention to the voice of our conscience. Our conscience lets us know when the information we encounter aligns with the greater truth of the universe. By listening to our conscience, we can choose the truth even at the risk of personal disadvantage, and we can prioritize the good of all even when the interests of the whole conflict with our own.
[AI-generated image about AI from Envato Elements]The marrying of intellectual ability with empathy, introspection, and conscience is humanity’s superpower. Humans alone have this combination. Because of it, humanity also has hope. We have the potential to make choices based on this superpower and guide our species to an abundant future on a vibrant earth. What I call a “New Humanity” completely utilizes this superpower for the good of all.
In the end, our methods of communication or decision-making aren’t as important as using them with our hearts. So, let’s embrace technology, but let’s not forget the importance of human connection. Let’s use technology to bring people together, to create a more harmonious and sustainable world.
Editor’s Note: Learn more about our relationship to technology in Ilchi Lee’s book, The Art of Coexistence: How You and I Can Change the World.

Strengthen Your Mind with Muscle Power
[Photo by Prostock-studio via Envato Elements]Unlock your brain’s power with muscle-building exercises—boost creativity, focus, and well-being effortlessly.
When we’re craving more brainpower in our lives—more creativity, focus, memory, intuition—we hold the key within our own bodies. Our brain, the mastermind behind our thoughts and actions, is intricately connected to the rest of our body through various systems like nerves, blood vessels, and lymphatic vessels. They dance in harmony, influencing each other constantly. Therefore, by nourishing our bodies through exercise, we can also nourish our brains.
Let’s start by examining any areas of our lives that might be hindering our brain’s potential. Are we getting enough sleep? Are we fueling ourselves with the vitamins and minerals our brains crave? Do we carve out moments of solitude each day to disconnect from the digital world and unwind? And are we moving enough to keep our blood, lymph, and energy circulating, ensuring our joints stay limber and our bodies remain relaxed? Making small changes to prioritize what our brains truly need can unlock new levels of brain power.
Empower Your Brain through Muscle BuildingWe can further empower our brains by embarking on a journey to build our muscles. Physical strength translates to mental vigor. Exercise acts as a natural stress reliever, revs up our metabolism, enhances blood circulation, and boosts our endorphin levels, contributing to our overall mental well-being. With improved blood flow, our brain cells receive an abundance of oxygen and nutrients, enhancing their functionality and fostering neuroplasticity—the brain’s remarkable ability to adapt and rewire itself. Moreover, the precision, balance, and stability required in exercises strengthen intricate neural pathways, fortifying our cognitive prowess.
As we witness the positive transformation in our bodies, a sense of trust and hope blossoms within us. By proving to ourselves that we can achieve our goals, we infuse our brains with empowering thoughts and beliefs, enhancing their efficiency.
Embark on Your Muscle-Building JourneyEnhancing our brainpower doesn’t necessitate becoming professional bodybuilders or gaining massive muscle mass. It’s about progress and the journey of becoming stronger. Whether we start with a little or a lot of muscle, we can tap into our brain’s potential by diligently and consistently exercising our muscles.
Here’s a simple routine of four strengthening exercises you can incorporate into your daily life, right from the comfort of your home, without any equipment:
Sit-ups or curl-upsPlankSquatsPush-upsBefore diving in, gauge your starting point for each exercise:
How many sit-ups or curl-ups can you manage in one minute? What’s your comfortable duration for holding a plank posture? How many squats can you perform with proper form? How many push-ups can you do without straining yourself?Set realistic goals for yourself. How much progress do you envision over a specific period, such as twenty-one days? Once you’ve determined your targets, channel your determination and take action. This is the ultimate act of self-love and care.
To achieve your goals, I recommend practicing these exercises regularly and consistently. They won’t consume much time; you can even break them into short sessions—five minutes, three times a day, during morning, afternoon, and evening.
At the end of each day, reflect on your progress. Record not only the number of repetitions or duration but also any changes you’ve noticed. This practice not only provides valuable feedback to your brain but also reinforces your commitment to self-love.
Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and express gratitude for your body’s capabilities. Remember, even attempting to improve is an act of self-love. By building your muscles, you’re enriching your life with blessings.

The Energetic Power of Forgiveness
[Photo by prostooleh via Envato Elements]Forgiveness holds the healing power of unblocking energy.
Recently, I produced a film called Love Heals, a documentary about some of the energy study techniques I teach. It tells the story of a young woman who heals her chronic pain by releasing traumatic memories from her body and mind. In her quest, she delves into the energetic roots of her pain through energy study and mind-body practice. Although many techniques are used, one of the most effective is simple and well-known: learning to forgive honestly and completely.
In an interview the film, physician David Hanscom states, “The one shortcut to healing is forgiveness.” Dr. Hanscom arrived at this conclusion after years of performing spinal surgery that failed to relieve the suffering of his patients. But is it true that something so simple could give rise to healing? I know that it is true; forgiveness works because it is often the key to restoring the proper flow of energy in the body and mind.
Forgiveness Unblocks EnergyFrom an energetic perspective, pain occurs in the body because of energy blockage. Sometimes, this can be purely physical, as when we break a bone or cut our skin. In that case, our body can usually heal the wound unless it is extremely severe, and when physical healing is complete, energy flow is restored in that part of the body. But not all our wounds are physical. Often, we hold negative memories and emotions in our bodies, which leads to chronic pain.
Since the mind greatly affects our energetic state, healing from this kind of pain must come through the healing of the mind. Essentially, when we experience chronic pain rooted in the mind, it is because we have some habit of mind that is ongoing, such as continuous anger, sadness, or tension about something that is or has been in our lives. If we can’t change that, we can never restore proper energy flow.
Forgiveness is usually the key to finally releasing these pent-up emotions, especially when holding on to something from our past. While our current situations can be changed, and we can build better futures for ourselves, nothing can be changed about what has occurred in the past. While we may be able to seek some sort of justice for what has occurred, ultimately, the past is immovable and unchangeable. You can only change your reaction to and your relationship with what has happened.
However, I understand completely how difficult it can be to let go of that which has caused deep mental and emotional trauma. Humans can do terrible things to each other, and the harm that results can shake our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. But, if we do not let go and forgive, we relive the worst moments of our lives in perpetuity. When we forgive, we finally let the past stay in the past instead of allowing it to affect the present.
Give Energy to Love and Oneness for True Personal and Global HealingOne basic principle of energy study is “Where the mind goes, energy follows.” Thus, when we hold sadness or resentment about an event, always replaying the story of it in our mind, we bring more and more energy to that memory. In the body, this may result in a buildup of tension and stagnant energy, which blocks the flow of energy in the meridians, causing pain and stiffness in those areas. The body is very good at restoring energetic balance, but it cannot do so until these blockages are released.
The documentary I produced is called Love Heals because love is indeed at the center of forgiveness. Forgiveness means returning to a proper state of energy flow in relationship to other people, the universe, and ourselves. This means loving ourselves, loving others, and loving all that is . . . even the difficult things. Love, on the energetic level, is simply the free flow of energy between elements in our lives—between myself and my soul, between myself and other people, and between myself and the universe.
Our egoic senses wrongly tell us that we are separate from others, but in reality, we are not. Through energy, we are connected to everyone and everything, and when we attempt to cut off from or reject anything because of our judgments and resentments, we cut off energy from ourselves and the other person. Thus, when we forgive, we reestablish energy flow, and true healing can begin.
Enjoy Ilchi Lee’s blog posts?Keep up-to-date with weekly wisdom delivered directly to your email inbox.
In fact, forgiveness is a necessary element in all the major problems that humans face. All relationships require personal responsibility first and then forgiveness when we fall short. Ultimately, you can only take responsibility for your part in any problem. You cannot force anyone to change a behavior or offer an apology for something, so let that go, understanding that they have their own healing journey to walk.
The same is true of political divisions in the world. If we cannot forgive, how can we ever overcome these divisions? Anything less inhibits the flow of energy between people and cultures, which in turn prevents us from acting harmoniously on behalf of Earth. War is an exaggerated version of the kind of non-forgiveness we experience individually; it’s a refusal to compromise and exchange energy constructively. That’s why individual healing is so important for healing the world. When we forgive ourselves and others who have harmed us, we take the first step toward healing the world.

Uniting the Collective Will for a Better World
[Photo by baffos via Envato Elements]Collective will and determination . . . how many times has that changed history?
March 1st marks a turning point in the Korean movement for independence from Japan, who had colonized it in 1910. On that day in 1919, protests were held in Seoul and a Proclamation of Independence was read. These protests launched a wave of 1500 protests involving 2 million people in Korea and other countries over the course of a year. With loud voices, Koreans moved to take back their own destiny and self-determination. They strengthened national unity and led to the leaders establishing the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, China.
What should our collective will and determination turn toward in 2024? I hope it can be directed toward evolving into a new humanity with values of compassion and coexistence. We have those values now, but because of various forces, our society does not embody them. However, by gathering our intentions and actions together, we can steer all people in every country toward a more peaceful, natural, and harmonious future. We can take back our own sovereignty from the internal and external forces that keep us from this future and lead us toward collective destruction.
We Can OvercomeAs in any protest against a stronger power, the people involved in what is known as the March First Movement (3.1 Movement) faced a lot of resistance and obstacles, even violence. It took twenty-one more years for Korea to gain its independence. But they believed in their cause enough to persevere. We can be as strong as our ancestors, the many people around the world who believed in change and chose to work for it. We can overcome the idea that coexistence is impractical and impossible. With the force of our collective will and determination, we can turn the tide of resistance from scarcity to abundance and from fear and hatred to love.
The first step in that choice, I believe, is to connect. By connecting our minds and hearts, we get in touch with our true selves—the parts of us that already embody coexistence. And we feel the oneness that also characterizes our true selves; we connect with all people past and present, and with the earth and all the life on it. Through this connection, we recognize that there’s no real difference between countries, races, or religions. At the root, we are all part of one humanity living on one earth. We are Earth Citizens.
So on March 1st, whether we are Korean, American, or of any other nation, let us remember our connection. Let’s gather our collective will and determination for a peaceful and prosperous planet.
Learn more about what it would mean for us to be a new humanity in my latest book, A New Humanity: Embracing Our Responsibility for the Earth.

Keep Your Life in Balance with the Five Elements of Nature
[Photo by bluejeanimages via Envato Elements]Adjust the earth, fire, wood, water, and metal elements inside and around you to keep your life on the right track.
This year is the year of the Blue Wood Dragon according to the Asian lunar calendar. You may have heard of the animals that make up the Eastern Zodiac, but why wood? Eastern philosophy characterizes the world in terms of five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. These elements symbolize various aspects of energy. The five stem from two—yin and yang—which come from the one source of all. Five Element Theory recognizes that we’re all part of nature and that the cycles of nature can be found in everything, large and small. Understanding how the elements work can give us a better understanding of the different natural forces that influence our lives inside and out and how, in turn, we can influence them.
Everything can be characterized in terms of one or more of the five elements. Each of our organs are related to a different element, and the date and time of our birth indicate which elements were influential when our bodies first arrived fully formed on the planet. Colors, tastes, emotions, and more have all been associated with different elements.
So What Are the Five Elements? We can get a sense of each element from how they appear in nature.
Wood: growing and developing, outward movement
Fire: hot and passionately vigorous, ascending, luminous
Earth: embracing and accepting, forming a foundation for new life to sprout, circular movement
Metal: cutting and binding, organizing, attacking and defending
Water: cool, flowing, descending, and mixing
These elements don’t sit around on their own: they interact with each other through natural cycles of expansion and contraction, creation and destruction. They like to be in balance, with one element not being too weak or strong, or too disruptive or controlling. Elemental imbalances lead to imbalances in the body, in our personalities and emotions, and in our environment. Traditional Asian medicine, feng shui, qigong, and similar practices act to correct imbalances so that we can be at our best and have what we want and need.
Important Cycles of the Five ElementsEach of the five elements represents a constant motion from one phase of a cycle to the next. These are the cycles we see throughout nature, including our own life cycle from birth to death, the cycles of the seasons, and the cycle of wakefulness and sleeping. The cycles of the five elements portray the materials, movements, and transformations of the universe. We go from zero or nothingness, then expand (yin-yang, Wood) and rise up (yang-yang, Fire). We remain stable for a while before our energies condense, yielding the fruits of our labor (Earth). Then, we go back down, contracting and moving inward (yang-yin, Metal), and downward until we return to stillness (yin-yin, Water).
This cycle of life can be called the Generating/Generation Cycle. It’s a circular cycle in which each element creates one element while being created by another. We can think of it as a mother-child relationship because one element nourishes another element, promoting its growth and development. Together, they produce everything in this world. You can see this relationship is how the elements interact in nature.
The elements create each other by:
Wood burns to create Fire
Fire creates ash/lava (Earth)
From Earth we extract Metal
Metal can be heated to create liquid (Water)
Water poured on seeds grows into plants (Wood)
Because of this cycle, when one element is too weak in our body or our environment, we can boost its “mother” to help nourish that element and bring the system back into equilibrium.
Controlling CycleEach of the five elements also provides a check to another element to keep it from getting out of balance. It restrains, controls, or moderates that element, limiting its expression, like in a grandparent to grandchild relationship.
The elements control each other by:
Wood growing through or covering Earth
Earth absorbing or damming Water
Water putting out Fire
Fire melting Metal
Metal cutting Wood
Another way to correct an imbalance in an element lies in this cycle. We can strengthen the elements “grandmother” to get it under control.
Overacting CycleThe Generating and Controlling cycles are two main cycles of the five elements, but these cycles can also get out of balance. For instance, a grandmother element in the Controlling Cycle can overact and be too controlling, which suppresses the natural growth and expression of the grandchild element.
Counteracting CycleOn the other hand, a grandchild element can be too willful and rebel against its grandmother element. The grandchild returns the controlling force generated by the grandmother. This goes against the natural order and goes in the opposite direction of the Controlling Cycle. The Counteracting Cycle can also be called the Insulting Cycle.
The elements counteract each other by:
Wood being too hard and breaking the axe cutting it (Metal)
Metal absorbing the heat and putting out a Fire
Fire flaring and drying up Water
Water washing away a shore (Earth)
Earth smothering growing plants (Wood)
The Generating Cycle can also go in reverse so that a child element weakens its mother element. For one element to be produced, another element must be exhausted. This cycle can also be called the Exhaustive Cycle.
The elements exhaust each other by:
Wood takes up and diminishes Water
Water corrodes and weakens Metal.
Metal exhausts Earth when too much is extracted from it
Earth cannot burn and can put out Fire
Fire uses up Wood
Many things can put an element out of balance, such as our lifestyle choices. Childhood trauma can cause long-term imbalances in our overall energetic constitution. Elements are also influenced by the seasons so that if we have a pre-existing imbalance, it may become worse during the seasons associated with that element.
Because all the elements interconnect to form a whole, weakness or excess in any one disrupts their delicate dynamic. An element may stop doing its job of controlling or nourishing the elements around it.
Their balance can be restored by correcting the element that is too strong or weak. This can be done by influencing the element directly or by influencing the elements that nourish or weaken it. Using the Weakening Cycle to diminish an excessive element may be better than using the Controlling Cycle because its effects can be gentler.
Since everything is associated with one or more elements, bringing in or removing foods, colors, emotions, and more from the environment (see chart above) can help restore balance. We can also use body tapping, vibration exercises like these, Brain Wave Vibration, organ sound chanting, energy healing, meditation, and movements such as qigong and yoga to stimulate or calm parts of the body associated with an element we would like to target. Strong or gentle exercise that improves the body’s entire energy system and keeps all the energy flowing lets the body and mind bring themselves back into balance. Seeing a professional such as an acupuncturist or herbalist can also be helpful.
Being aware of and using the five elements of nature is one of the many ways we can be masters of our bodies, masters of our minds, and masters of our environment. Understanding the basics of Five Element Theory can help us do that.

Building a Healthy Brain from the Ground Up
[Photo by wayhomestudioo via Envato Elements]Our brains closely link to the rest of our body. Taking good care of our bodies, especially our guts, helps us take good care of our brains.
For the brain to function properly, we need to keep it in good condition. What is the root that determines the state of the brain? It’s our physical energy. It’s the energy in our lower energy center, in our first and second chakras, and in the state of our gut.
Just like a tree cannot grow well if its roots rot, if we don’t have enough physical energy our brains will be foggy, scattered, or anxious. No matter how much knowledge they hold, the brains in our head cannot work well if our intestines are full of bad bacteria. When our intestines are uncomfortable, and our bodies feel uncomfortable, then nothing good will come out of our mouths, or our brains. On the other hand, when our guts are comfortable, then our brains will also be stable.
Taking good care of our intestines is a shortcut to building a good brain. One mind-body exercise that builds up the energy in our lower energy center, calms our minds and emotions, and moves waste through our gut is Intestinal Exercise. With Intestinal Exercise, we can clean our bodies, clear our brains, and develop strong, healthy roots for our thoughts, words, and actions.
How to Do Intestinal ExerciseThe essential movement in Intestinal Exercise consists of moving the muscles of the lower abdomen in and out. It can be performed standing, sitting, or lying down in various postures. Different postures stimulate different energy channels (meridians) in the body. Here is a basic way to do it.
Make your spine long and straight while keeping your shoulders relaxed.Imagine a string behind the navel pulling it back toward the spine as far as it can go. Then release it and relax. Let your breathing happen naturally as you keep your mind focused on the sensations you feel inside your lower abdomen. To help you focus, rest both palms on your abdomen, making a triangle with your thumbs meeting at your navel in a straight line and your index fingers meeting in a point below them.Exhale any pressure you feel through your mouth. Move at a steady, comfortable pace. Start with one hundred repetitions of moving the abdomen in and out.If you don’t have a lot of time in your day for regular Intestinal Exercise practice, you can add it to other activities. You can practice it while watching TV, standing in line, or riding in a vehicle. In fact, performing Intestinal Exercises during a long trip will help circulate your blood and lymph and help prevent you from getting too stressed or stiff.
