IT’S TIKI TIME! AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: MEG AMOR – WIN A FREE EBOOK!

51oO0tesIeL

Aloha Gang!

Today we’re meeting the awesome Meg Amor, a god friend of mine, who, like me is Hawaiian at heart and writes about the islands often in her books. She has a new release, Pele’s Revenge,  an exciting addition to the dazzling Lei Crime Kindle World series!

Here is the purchase link : https://www.amazon.com/Lei-Crime-Reve...

You can win a FREE copy of this tantalizing crime novella by posting a comment here. This enters you into the draw to win!

Meg is one intriguing wahine. She wrote and hand-published her first book when she was 11. And like all romance writers (Check out her “Hawaiians” series – links below), she believes in love: Her motto is “Amor Vincet Omnia”—Love Conquers All.

Ah, love…

She also has a great sense of  humor. Why else would she stop by and answer some totally stupid questions?

 And now…here she is!

1. Aloha Meg, I know you love Hawaii. If you could be any famous Hawaiian other than real life or fiction, who would it be?

Duke Kahanamoku. He’s one of my heroes. He had such wonderfully, genuine aloha spirit. To me, he is always one of the epitomes of Aloha.

2. I love Duke too! Okay, do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

No. I don’t. I hadn’t even thought about things like that. LOL.

3. What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

Brokenwood a NZ police procedural drama series. It’s bloody excellent. An Aussie friend of ours brought over the series when she visited and I have become hooked on it. Brilliant acting, NZ culture and people. Great show. I just love it. :) And it’s a lot of fun because my mum was an actress and would have loved to have gone professional or done TV and film work. And some of the young actors she acted with are now seasoned NZ professional actors. I watch an episode and think…. Good lord, that’s Alistar Browning. Then I looked up the actors and thought… Peter Elliott… my god… I have pictures in plays mum was in when these guys were just starting out. It’s wonderful to see them in a professional acting venue now. I’m enjoying it so much.

4. A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

“I heard you like to run your air conditioner night and day and keep things cool, plus you do a killer margarita. I don’t suppose you have any tequila, do you?”

5. You’re stuck on a deserted island after a three hour tour that goes awry. Name six people alive or dead that you’d like to be marooned with…and your fantasy castaway meal.

Morgan Freeman – I love that man immensely on so many levels. He’s so deeply interesting and fascinating.
James Baldwin – fabulous philosopher and writer no longer with us.
My mum – cos she was always so interesting, funny, and lively.
Martin Luther King – another fascinating man who would be fabulous to have a conversation with.
Anatonia Te Maioha – NZ actor – because he seems a very interesting and intelligent man too.
Gosh, I haven’t chosen many women, have I? LOL
Helen Mirren because she’s also so interesting and intelligent.

In short, anyone who’s interesting, intelligent, high EQ, deep, artistic, and has a keen sense of humor.

The MEAL

Anything from Alan Wong or Thomas Keller.

But details…and choices. I like to have choices… LOL.

Starters:

A deep, rich, pumpkin soup with kaffir lime leaf, maple foam, and Parmesan crisps.
Rosemary Gorgonzola pizza bread
Fried green tomatoes stack with remoulade

Main Course:

Onaga fish with two sauces – lobster butter sauce and a red wine reduction cream sauce
A fillet mignon steak with a Parmesan crust and a brandy, cream, pepper sauce.

For dessert:

A Napoleon filled with a avocado cream and served with lemon curd.
Alan Wong’s five spoons of creme brulee in various flavors
Alan Wong’s Chocolate Crunch Bars

Cheese plate with NZ cheeses, a decent hard cheddar, creamy Kahurangi blue, chevre, and juniper berries in olive oil with decent plain crackers.

Rounded off with a nice port.

Wow, Meg! You are so cool!

Thanks for stopping by!

IT’S TIKI TIME! AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: D.B. McNICOL – WIN A FREE EBOOK!

51A5C6VvxqL

Aloha Gang!

Today we’re meeting the awesome D.B. McNicol, whose book, Paradise Down is an exciting, dramatic book in the dazzling Lei Crime Kindle World series!

Here is the link : https://www.amazon.com/Lei-Crime-Para...

You can win a FREE copy of this gripping crime book by posting a comment here. This enters you into the draw to win!

D.B. is a traveler…an adventuress you might say. She’s busy writing and exploring, but soooo cool she even stopped by to answer some totally stupid questions…how cool is that?

And now, without further nonsense from me…here she is!

1. Aloha D.B! I have some truly important questions to ask. First of all, what is your favorite childhood book?

My favorite childhood book – I had to think on this one. I think my all-time favorite was “Wind in the Willows”. It was the first hardcover book that was mine, given to me by an aunt and she signed it. I wish I still had it. My other favorite was actually a series. While most kids read “Nancy Drew”, I fell in love with “Trixie Beldon” and saved all my babysitting money so I could buy the books.

2. How did publishing change your writing habits?

After publishing my first book in my Klondike mystery series, “Not a Whisper”, I quickly finished my second book, my only romance, “Home Again”. I learned I needed to allow two to three times the amount of time for edits and revisions that I spent on writing. I also learned I work much better with a deadline. The bulk of my first drafts in all three published books were written in NaNoWriMo style, one in thirty days. Since then, when I don’t write that way, it takes me months and months to produce a first draft.

3. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

I had to laugh at this one. Right now it’s the sloth because that matches how quickly my latest WIP are getting written. Guess I need to choose a speedier mascot!

4. Any advice for your previous boss?

Hmmm, this is tough. I haven’t had a full-time boss in almost twenty years. I retired from my IT career at age fifty, never knowing I would end up writing fiction. Or that after over thirty years of being a detailed analytical at work, I would love being a pantser when writing.

5. You’re stuck on a deserted island after a three hour tour that goes awry. Name six people alive or dead that you’d like to be marooned with…and your fantasy castaway meal.

Six people I’d want to be on a desert island with – for who knows how long. I’m terrible with conflict or drama in real life, so I’m afraid this would could be a boring choice for others. I would chose my best friend from junior/senior high school, my best friend from my work career, my husband who never fails to make me laugh and look at things differently (and usually from a better angle), my youngest brother for his sense of humor and everyday survival skills, and one close writing friend and his wife. I don’t know if any of us could cook very well, but we’d sure be entertaining.Fantasy castaway meal? Taking away food allergies, it would be lobster, corn on the cob and a Greek salad. Putting in a dose of reality, toss in Moose Tracks ice cream, cinnamon teddy bear candy chews and dark chocolate Hershey kisses.

Paradise Down, a Lei Crime Kindle World novella:
Purchase Link: https://www.amazon.com/Lei-Crime-Para...

Synopsis:

Aloha Nicholás! But will this be a hello or a goodbye? When Lucia Santerez returns home to Hawaii to help her brother Nicholás with his new dive shop, she learns Nicholás has disappeared–and someone doesn’t want him found.

Enlisting the aid of hunky vacationing firefighter, Jared Stevens, gets them the wrong kind of attention. They discover what lies under the water off the coast of the Hawaiian island of Kaua`i could make you rich or get you killed.

For readers of the Lei Crime series, this story occurs shortly after the Lei Crime Series book, “Fire Beach”.

D.B. McNicol

Biography

I think I was destined to be a writer – in the 4th grade I took my toy typewriter and painstakingly typed out the neighborhood news, one copy at a time, and sold it to the neighbors for ten cents each. But as often happens, life intervenes and writing took a back seat to spending 30+ years in the IT industry.

A late in life lover of adventure, I learned to ride a motorcycle at age 55, traveled the US solo on my Harley-Davidson at age 58 (42 states and 27k miles), selling my home and everything I owned to become a full-time RVer. I eventually met my current husband, also widowed, a full-time RVer and Harley rider. Fate!

We traveled the US for several years before putting it in storage and moving to Cuenca, Ecuador for two years. What at adventure! Now we are back and continue to travel in our 41′ fifth wheel toy hauler trailer.

I continue to travel and write, savoring every moment of every day!

1. Hi Stormy, what’s your favorite cocktail? I’ll have the cabana boys whip one up for you while I ask you some stupid, I mean important questions.Margaritas…love margaritas…especially strawberry. Of course, that song “Tequila makes her clothes fall off” describes me perfectly. Hubby buys me a bottle of tequila every Valentine’s Day :)

2. What was your favorite toy growing up? Oh, that one’s easy. I grew up rather poor. We didn’t have running water, indoor plumbing, or electricity until I was twelve. I didn’t know it of course. My parents were very good at making sure our lives were wonderful. One year, my birthday was coming around and things were pretty slim. My daddy came home one day and called me out to his truck. He whipped back the tarp and there was this wooden two story dollhouse. He had spent two months at work making it for me.

3.  What an awesome dad!! Now, who do you know that was most likely to have been abducted by aliens? LOL…my brother Christopher. I’m pretty sure he is an alien.

4. If you could have an accent in the world, which one would you choose? French. I came from French ancestry, so it just makes sense.

5. You’re stuck on a deserted island after a three hour tour that goes awry. Name six people alive or dead that you’d like to be marooned with…and your fantasy castaway meal.

Sean Connery so I could listen to him talk. That man has the sexiest voice.
Dwayne Johnson so I had someone to lift the heavy stuff for me, like coconuts and leafy palm frawns to fan me when it’s hot.
My hubby of course, because I refuse to be marooned anywhere without him.
Helen Mirren so I could have someone really interesting to talk to. I’d love to sit and pick her brain about the amazing life she has lived.
Bill Nye the Science Guy…someone needs to have brains to built the yacht to take us home…assuming we decide to leave our private paradise.
Mario Batali to cook my amazing fantasy castaway meal.

My Fantasy castaway meal…

ManacledFinal (1)

OUT NOW!

Purchase Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y5SCL25/...

Will Mingo and Francois get hitched?

Honolulu’s hottest forensic accountant Mingo McCloud is launching the criminal investigation he never dreamed possible. The perp? Himself.

It’s wedding bells in Waikiki with Mingo set to marry Francois. Friends and family arrive from all over the world, and just as the intrepid pair gets ready to say “I do,” they don’t. A mysterious woman shows up at the service, claiming to be the long-lost wife of…Mingo!

Needless to say, Mingo is stunned. Not the least because he’s never dated a woman, much less married one. The whole family’s in an uproar, especially when the shady lady produces wedding pictures and love letters allegedly written by Mingo.

He and Francois are determined to unravel the mystery. But for Mingo, the shocks don’t stop coming when it appears he has a trail of busted female hearts behind him, as well as some serious grifting. What the heck is going on? Is he the victim of a conspiracy, or is something else happening? Are parts of Mingo awake and doing things he knows nothing about when he’s sleeping?

It’s Coming! It’s Coming!

comingsoon (1)

Hey Gang,

I’m so excited to announce that DARK PARADISE: MYSTERIES FROM THE LAND OF ALOHA is coming soon! All the proceeds of this anthology go to benefit writers in the land of Aloha via Sisters in Crime, Honolulu branch.

Big cover real on April 3, but in the meantime let me tell you it’s a mystery-packed book of 17 short stories and they are awesome!

Some of my favorite authors are involved – including Laurie Hanan, Gail M. Baugniet, Bob Newell (Love his Jimmy Chan stories!), Alain Gunn, Lizbeth Hartz, Gay Coburn Gale, Rosemary and Larry Mild, Michael Little, Doris Chu, D.W. Scott, David W. Jones, Shauna Jones, D.V. Whytes, Hannah Cheng, Carol Catanzariti, and there’s a foreword by Toby Neal.

On April 3 you will be able to access the Facebook page for Dark Paradise where you will see the cover, and tons of tidbits about the authors and their stories.

Here is the link but it will not work until April 5!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/DarkP...

My Story, Wait For Me, features my new Hawaiian private eye, Danny Morales, who helps an old buddy with the brutal murder of his mother-in-law.

Danny gets unexpected help in his inquiries – from another killer. The idea came to me after studying a really bizarre case in my forensic analysis class at USC. I love these classes, even though they give me sleepless nights. Viewing crime scene and autopsy photos is nothing like watching them on TV. They are creepy!

I love Danny and have had so much fun creating this new character!

Find out more about DARK PARADISE and its other stories from some of the other authors appearing in the anthology. They’ll also post about the cover reveal today and their stories:

IT’S TIKI TIME! AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: REBECCA CANTRELL – WIN A FREE EBOOK!

A-Trace-of-Smoke-Large-199x300

Aloha gang!

Today we’re meeting New York Times best-selling author Rebecca Cantrell, who knows her way around a twisty mystery…but does she know her way around some seriously stupid questions?

Rebecca’s hot Hannah Vogel mystery, A TRACE OF SMOKE,  has won a bunch of awards, including the Macavity, and Bruce Alexander awards…she’s so cool! I am offering up a free ebook copy of this so don’t forget to post a comment to enter the draw to win!

Purchase Link just in case you can’t wait: https://www.amazon.com/Trace-Smoke-Ha...

Rebecca will be appearing this week at the Left Coast Crime Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. She’ll be on a panel discussing her work so if you are anywhere near sunny Waikiki, come on down and meet her.

Here is a link for all the details about Honolulu Havoc. http://www.leftcoastcrime.org/2017/

Busy as she is, Rebecca took time to conquer, I mean, answer, some really stupid questions!

1. Hi Rebecca, what’s your favorite cocktail? I’ll have the cabana boys whip one up for you while I ask you some stupid, I mean important questions.

A chocolate martini. Shaken or stirred. The most important part is: CHOCOLATE!

2. Oh that sounds good! Who do you know that is most likely to have been abducted by aliens?

Douglas Adams. Sadly, I do not know him, but his descriptions of Vogon poetry in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy seem too apt to be a simple coincidence. Plus, Marvin must be based on a real alien robot.

3.  I agree! What would be your favorite beach read? (not your own of course…)

I just finished reading Hell’s Detective by Michael Logan at the beach today. It’s a hell of a noir/fantasy/horror–a perfect splash of shade in a sunny day.

4. You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?

I’d set up an elephant sanctuary in my condo. The condo has a pool, so it can swim. I could take it for long walks to find bananas and other fruit to eat. I’d have to get the pool umbrellas set up just right so it would have a shady place to stand. Then I think we’d just hang out and I’d have chocolate martinis and the elephant would either drink carbonated water from the hot tub or cold water from the pool. Elephant’s choice. And I would name her Esmeralda.

5. That is the best answer EVER! An elephant sanctuary! Awesome! Now,,,finally, the stupidest question of all…
You’re stuck on a deserted island after a three hour tour that goes awry. Name six people alive or dead that you’d like to be marooned with…and your fantasy castaway meal.

I’d go straight up practical on this one. I’d like a botanist (maybe Mark Watney?) so we know what to eat and how to grow food, Bear Grylls to help us find water and stay alive (without drinking elephant urine like he did in that one episode, even though we will apparently have an elephant–see previous question), a builder for our huts, a plumber (but not my brother, even though he is a great plumber–but he likes to drive me nuts and I want to relax on this island), a brewer so we can drink with umbrellas in them (I’ll make the umbrellas), and my husband, because he’s cute and can also do a lot of useful survival-type things.

My ideal meal would contain German chocolate, Iowa beef, Idaho potatoes, and cream from Holland. It would have to be flown in, of course, so I’d catch one of those planes back to civilization with a pile of my handmade umbrellas and my team of six.

Rebecca Cantrell is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She has published nine novels in over ten different languages. Her novels have won the ITW Thriller, the Macavity, and the Bruce Alexander awards.
