Butterfly now to be two volumes

My new book relating to slavery has become so long that it will now be released in two parts. Called Butterfly, the first part tells the story of a slave taken from Cameroon to North Carolina in 1860. The second part of the duet will be set in 1864 and continues the tale.

Butterfly: Part One will be released on January 31st. As yet, there is no release date for Part Two, though I anticipate it being late June/early July.

Hopefully fans of my work will enjoy this new story as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

New story relating to slavery

Currently writing Butterfly, my eleventh title with slavery as a theme. Starting in Cameroon, West Africa in 1860, and ending in North Carolina, this is another emotive tale with a touch of adventure.

Due for release on 31st January 2020, it is one of 3 books relating to slavery that are due for release next year.

Runaway - a tale about a slave in 1863

Runaway is an intimate tale of innocence, acceptance and freedom. It relates the story of Joshua, a slave who finds refuge on a Missouri farmstead in 1863. Discovered by six year old Clara, she agrees to keep his presence a secret, but not all secrets can be kept, despite best intentions (for the full description go to the book's Amazon page).

This book contains the same descriptive qualities as The Hanging Tree and creates an emotional balance with that book.

The Kindle edition of Runaway is now available for pre-order and there will be a paperback edition available from the release date of the 27th May.

New Slave Story

I have started a new story this morning about a slave who escapes from a plantation and finds friendship and acceptance on a small farmstead. Called Runaway, it is the tale of Joshua, who finds refuge in a barn and is discovered by six-year old Clara, a bond soon developing between them.

After writing The Hanging Tree I was very aware of the melancholy effect of the story. Runaway is intended as a foil to this and will hopefully touch readers in a positive way.

I hope it will be released in Kindle and paperback formats at the end of April.

As an aside, the Kindle edition of the historical novel The Shepherd of St Just will be available for pre-order from April 1st. It is the third in the series I loosely termed as my 'outcasts trilogy.'

Love Life

I read the phrase ‘live the life you love’ last night and at first thought it a nice one with a positive sentiment. However, upon thinking about it, I realised that it would be better to say ‘love the life you live.’

This is a subtle change of emphasis from striving to acceptance. Striving creates struggle as you try and mould your life. It could also be that your vision of the life you love actually is not what is truly best for you, and therefore even more struggle is created. The idea of striving also implies discontentment with the life you have and takes you out of the Now because you are looking to the future.

With acceptance of your life as it is comes contentment. You remove much struggle and simply love life in the Now.

So, to everyone who reads this I say, love the life you live.

The Shepherd of St Just

I started writing The Shepherd of St Just a week ago today. The going is slow, but I'm very happy with the quality of the writing and the flow of the plot.

I had expected to be writing a science-fiction comedy, but this novel forced its way to the front of the 'write me' queue in my head, the first line coming to me on Tuesday 6th. Once the first line has come into existence the rest of the story is sure to follow.

The book will be out sometime in 2016 and hopefully will make an intriguing addition to those already published, Where Seagulls Fly and Song of the Sea.

New book finished and The Shepherd of St Just coming soon

Finished writing my new mind, body, spirit book entitled The Empty Cup on Monday night. Now to begin the process of redrafting and editing.

The historical novel The Shepherd of St Just is starting to whisper with increasing volume from my subconscious. I don't think it will be long until its voice becomes insistent and I begin writing what will be my third story about an outcast in western Cornwall.

Waiting patiently

Taking a break from writing as I wait for a story to demand that it's written. Nothing as yet, but there are ideas bubbling at the back of my mind. It will be interesting to see what eventually rises into my consciousness and bursts into life on the viewing screen of my mind.

Will definitely be writing The Shepherd of St Just later this year, my 3rd historical novel set in western Cornwall and featuring an outcast.

Support authors, not piracy

I keep finding sites claiming to be legal that offer my books for electronic download. However, whatever they may claim, they are not legal. The only place where the electronic versions of my books can be downloaded legally is Amazon. If people don't have Kindle, most of my books are also available as paperbacks.
More and more authors are struggling to make ends meet, the majority having to have another source of income, and this sort of piracy does not help. The more its supported by the general public, the more authors will stop writing and there will be less for the public to read. Please support authors, not piracy.
