In the trilogy The Emperor, The Son and The Thief a young man called Audun discovers that he is the illegitimate son of Alberon, King of Kermin and Doran, the Emperor of the North. With the help of an ancient alchemist’s malign spirit Audun reclaims his rightful inheritance and banishes his step-mother, the Empress Sylva, and his step-brothers, Aaron and Elrik, to the Empress’s brother’s court in Tamin. Kingship turns out to be a poisoned chalice for Audun and he abdicates. The step-brother Aaron is the rightful successor to his father’s thrones but ancient marriage promises create threats and opportunities. Sylva decides to take a risky opportunity, but it is a misstep. When her brother, Bertalan, discovers her scheme he sends Sylva into exile on a remote island where she seems destined to spend the rest of her life.
However, the rights of thrones are complicated and Sylva has unexpected allies who will support her, if she can escape exile and if she can find her sons. The Empress is Sylva’s story.

It is somewhat disappointing that no one wanted to take up the opportunity to get a prepublication pdf of The Empress.
Maybe no one has time to read 300,000 word novels these days. The book will publish in May/June but I won't expect a great volume of sales.

The Empress Completed
Well, at last it is done - The Empress is complete and I hope will publish in the next few weeks. In the interim we will probably make a small number of e-book/PDF copies available pre publication.

The Empress V3
The story of the Empress and her two sons is now at the second edit stage. At nearly 300,000 words it maybe is a bit too long but it seemed as though all the words were necessary for the characters to tell their stories.
Still not sure whether to go to full publication or not - do people read 700 page books?
