He rests his forehead against mine. We're both breathing hard. And there's no one here watching, no one we're performing for.
“What are we doing?” I whisper.
“I have no idea,” he says. “I don't know what I've been doing this entire trip.”
“We’re our vacation selves,” I murmur.
He runs his fingers over my wet hair before coming to rest on the bare skin of my neck. “Maybe,” he says quietly. “Or maybe it's just me, and it’s just you.”
“Kiss me again?”
He lowers his head. Our lips meet, and around us, the rain keeps pouring down.

"It's been a while since we last heard from you two! What have you guys been up to?"
Rhys: We recently bought an apartment together, actually. Renovating it and getting it to where it should be has been challenging.
Ivy: But fun! We've also been working together on a new campaign of mine. It's the first time we've done it in years, and it's actually going a lot better than I thought.
Rhys: Didn't think we'd work well together?
Ivy, smiling: No, I knew we would. I was more concerned we wouldn't get the work done... because we'd get distracted. But you know there's no photographer I like more than you.
Rhys: You're biased. But thank you, baby.
"What first attracted you to each other?"
Ivy: Oh, well, I can't exactly say it was attraction at first sight. We got off on the wrong foot, you know.
Rhys: Yeah, I wasn't exactly... yeah. I wouldn't act like that again, but it sure made for a few fun weeks in the beginning.
Ivy: Fun? (She's chuckling.) Yes, I suppose so. But even when you annoyed me, on our trip, I was attracted to you. It bothered me because I didn't like your personality then.
Rhys: Ouch.
Ivy: It's not like you were trying to be liked, either. But we spent so much time together, and it didn't take long for me to get to know you. The real you. And the more we talked..
Rhys: I wanted you from the first moment I saw you, even if I didn't admit it to myself until much later.
"You two went on a worldwide trip together, as model and photographer. What's your favorite memory from the trip?"
Rhys: The Jeep in Kenya. We ended up getting stuck at night, and... slept in the back of it.
Ivy: Oh, wow. Yes. That was... yeah, I'll never forget that. It got cold in the desert that night, but it was fantastic. I also really loved our days in Paris. Rhys is half-French, and really showed me the city.
Rhys: That was good. Bali was nice, too.
Ivy: Yes! We were so happy there, in the really early throes of falling in love. Swimming by the waterfall and staying at that luxury hotel... can we go back?
Rhys: Whenever you want, Ives.
"Can you share a favorite quote or saying that inspires your relationship?"
Ivy: Oh, can I go first? I love quotes and sayings and stuff. Rhys thinks they're cliché.
Rhys: Because they are. But that doesn't mean I don't like a good quote. It just has to be a real one, and not like... Live, Laugh, Love.
Ivy laughs: Too bad I'm planning to get that tattooed.
Rhys: She's lying.
Ivy: I am, yeah. Hmm... I think my favorite saying is to never go to bed angry. Rhys and I can argue sometimes. We kinda like pitting our opinions against one another, but we always resolve everything before we end the day.
Rhys: That's a good one. I can't remember this quote entirely, but it's from a book: that a true partnership is two unperfect people refusing to give up on one another.
Ivy: That's a lovely quote!
Rhys, smiling: I have my moments. More and more often, I'd say, since meeting you.

“Sophia,” Isaac says. There’s a pained expression on his face. “Please don’t.”
I watch him across my living room. Recklessness and something else, something wild, beats beneath my breastbone, and I let my top fall to the floor. “Why not?”
“You know why not.” He’s still not looking at me, like my sports bra and bare stomach are Medusa. His face looks carved in stone.
“Because you don’t mix business and pleasure,” I say, “or because you don’t want me?”
"You know that’s not it.”
“Do I?” I walk backwards through my living room, my feet sinking into the plush carpet.
His hand turns into a fist at his side. “You deserve so much more than this. Proper dates over candlelight. Flowers and gifts and a slow seduction.”
“I don’t want that. I’ve had that.”
“I know,” he says, and curses again. I've never heard him swear this much. “You think I don’t want you? You’re all I think about, day after goddamn day, and it's been that way for much longer than it should've."
