One of the scariest things I ever did was submit my first novel to a publisher. I had strung my heart and soul into those words and felt exposed. So, I took a deep breath and asked myself, "What good is all that work, if you don't share it with the world? Who will benefit?"

Submission was definitely the first scary hurdle in this career. I had no idea more was to come.

The truth is, I'm comfortable in the background letting others hog the limelight. It's a cozy place to hang. As an author, I write in my office most days-Alone. And since Covid-19 hit, I don't interact much with humans. But I like humans.

With the social media boom, the publishing world has changed. It isn't enough today for an author to submit a novel and start working on their next one. Authors do live events, teach at writer conferences, speak at book clubs and other engagements, visit schools, do interviews, etc. (all the things that scare me silly). Until I remember-I like humans.

While some peeps can be nasty, most are just like you and me-doing their best from day to day. If my words help them escape from their pressures for a few hours, then I've done my job. And if these peeps want to meet me because I helped them feel better... That's good too, because I like humans.

Then it occurred to me, I like humans, but I HATE cameras. Cameras scare me...
