Various and sundry updates

Writing madly on the final phase of an historical novel called "No Other Wish But His" -- a fictionalized version of the life of Katherine Howard which one of my writers' group members has nicknamed Kay Ho. (G)

A few updates:  As you can tell I have indeed survived Luna con.  For those who heard me there, my voice is now back -- which means podcast tomorrow.  (Yay, right?)

I'm now on face book under Sarah A. Hoyt.  I'm also twittering as sarahahoyt, if you feel a burning desire to know what I had

Liveblogging Opus II

Last night, at about 2 am I found myself considering asking Dan to take me to emergency.  I couldn't breathe and I'm fairly sure your bronchi aren't something you should be able to listen to like a wind orchestra.  Every minute it seemed like my wind pipe was more constricted and I was choking to death.  And then I realized that I when we asked for the feather bedding to be removed from the room, they hadn't thought the coverlets on the bed needed to be removed.  Once they were removed, I was ab

Live blogging the con

Here I am at lovely Opus Fest in Denver, CO. The weather is nice and the fans are nice and con organizers are possibly the nicest I've ever seen to fans.

It would be lots of fun if I weren't recovering from pneumonia.

So far I've been present at the opening ceremonies where the importance of showering was greatly emphasized (in a good way, truly. It was funny.)

Then there was the vampire panel, where I found out that notwithstanding OMike's being convinced that I have legions of gay vampires.

Free, Gratis, For nothing!

No, not writing books, or at least not yet. :)

My story High Stakes is up at Darwin's Evolutions

http://darwinsevolutions.com/wordpress/index.php/the-library/stories/high-stakes-by-sarah-a-hoyt/

Set in the world of my space opera DarkShip Thieves (out from Baen sometime in 2010), the story is one of several (at least fifteen planned, though it might extend to more) that sketch out the future history between our time and the time of DarkShip Thieves. (Not that it's needed. It's just fun.) Once I h

Geek love

My husband, got tired of hearing me sigh over the kindle II and told me to get one already.  Previous to this I got a Nokkia 770 (last November) which did well enough for reading ebooks, except I kept running out of battery because my eyes are not so good, and I had to keep pumping up the back light.

Arrived yesterday and SO FAR very impressed.  Will report as I get better acquainted with it. :)

There are of course books I'll never get rid of -- like most hardcovers and definitely most signed hard

Ms. Sarah Hoyt Sings The Blues

Okay, not really.  And you should be glad, truly.  Instead I read my short story, Another George from my collection Crawling Between Heaven And Earth, available at the Baen Free Library in Baen.com.

For those who've never heard me in person, the accent might drive you nuts.

This is an experimental thing.  I was testing the hardware.  Next I test the editing software.  And then, if there is still interest, I do more of these. :)

I hope you enjoy.

The horror! The depravity!

Like most supporters of gay marriage, I've been accused of wanting to put our culture on a slippery slope to hell.  If I had a dime for each time someone has told me "What about incest?" or "What if they want to marry their dog?"

Now, mind you, my social circle -- both gay and straight friends -- is arguably limited by the fact that I spend two thirds of my awake time writing.  But I can honestly say that the raciest thing I've ever heard any friend say about his/her pet is on the order of "We mu

Good Morning America, I Love You

I'm still mired deep in writing, though the treacle has got somewhat less sticky and I can see the end from where I am.

However, for several days now, I've had this song stuck in my head:

Riding on the City of New Orleans,
Illinois Central Monday morning rail
Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders,
Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail.
All along the southbound odyssey
The train pulls out at Kankakee
Rolls along past houses, farms and fields.
Passin’ trains that have no names,
Freight yards ful
