Sleep Hygiene

Don’t ask how I got a photo of a sleeping Lawdog. He was at Fencon, okay?

Let me start festivities by pointing out I’m not a doctor and I’m not impersonating one.

This is a schedule I’ve been advised to follow, and which seems to work (though it takes two weeks to a month to ‘establish’ and I keep falling off the wagon. However, when I’m doing it, and not interrupted by say cons, or family stuff, my autoimmune gets better; my ADD goes to manageable levels, and well… I generally perform...

The Overton Window Moveth

I was frankly surprised only one of you complained and couldn’t even about the suggestion to abolish public/government schooling. There is a reason I had an heresy graphic with it.

I don’t know why one of you protested, because the complaint was about the overton window and I guess that I could now suggest things like this without scandal.

We’ll shelve that for late and psircle back to it.

Some of you had quibbles, and a friend had straight up opposition, so let me dispose of those ...

Let’s Separate State and Education

Good Morning, Ladies, Gentlemen and Hermit Crabs! It is Wednesday and here at According to Hoyt it’s Heresy Time!

Today’s heresy — against “the way things have always been done” is “Let’s get the state out of education, and let’s keep those two separated forever more!”

Stop looking at me like guppies. First, “the way things have always been done” applies, at most to the last 100 years. Second, you guys know how I feel about the state. Everything goes worse with the state involved! (Ex...

Sorry And A Sad Announcement

As you probably noticed, I didn’t put up a promo post today. Mostly on account of taking a lot of unscheduled naps today. (I blame the cats for this. Havey kept pinning me down and not letting me move.)

I’m now thinking I’ll do the promo this coming Sunday. I always hate to do that, because sometimes people have promos. So, if you have a promo that expires before Sunday, ping me on Discord, or FB or even in my real email (not the promo email) and tell me, and I’ll figure out something.

A Sad Excuse for An After Action Report

So, I went to Fencon. I did not get a T-shirt.

I had gone to Fencon 10 years ago, but this time was nothing like it was then. It felt smaller to me, but that might be because It was wholly taken over by our people.

As you probably know Larry was the Guest of HOnor, and he was great, as usual. I got to see Bridget, and Yeah, I had sort of seen her at Liberty, but we were both so busy….

This con I only had two panels, but got hauled into the piracy and smuggling panel by Kal Spriggs ...

Very Much Alive

Promo post Tuesday, after I get home.
Sorry no post today. SO TIRED. Much peopling.

I got to meet a bunch of you, though, so that was cool.

Our dinner plans just got dropped…. Oh well. I’m going to nap.

Open Floor

If you’re looking for me at the con… it’s going to be a couple of hours. I was hungry and peopled out, so I’m hiding out in the room and cilling for a little while. We’ll be back in a couple of hours.

Because I woke up late and I had a panel and a signing that went on double the time I expected, I’m going to throw the floor open.

So, I’m throwing the floor open and giving you some things to chew on:

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of env...

At Fencon

I’m at Fencon and I really intended to do a post….

We stayed at a hotel before the hotel half the con got moved to, because that other hotel (Let’s do the hotel dance) didn’t have Thursday night…

It was, except for once years ago where the hotel at the Springs con put us in a room without heat, knowingly, the worst night I’ve ever had.

For one, the toilet didn’t work, and they said they’d fix it in the morning. This was minor believe it or not. The major thing was that I woke up at 4 i...

Two Households

I realized over the last few days that the big problem in this country is not that we’re two households — not even vaguely both alike in dignity — but that we’re two cultures that really can’t communicate at all.

Yes, I know that tests have been done, and blah blah, and we understand the left better than they understand us. This is kind of, sort of almost true. Except where it isn’t. And where it isn’t, it’s close to Scott Adams different movies in the head, but that’s also not the righ...

A Sorry Excuse For a Post

I’m not going to write a post, because I’m beset by the black dog today. I know it’s most likely the con this weekend.

I could say I’m getting old, because I hate traveling and disruptions of my routine, but the awful truth is I always did, even as much as I traveled when I was young. I traveled because I thought I should, but I hate disrupting my routine. Yeah. I know. OLD AND GRUMPY. Well, at this point likely so, but I’ll point out I was always grumpy too.

Anyway, right now there’s...
