The Vampire King slammed me into the side of my house. He ripped the helmet from my head, plastered me against the wood, and trapped my hands above my head.
In that instance, my life flashed before my eyes. But some small part of me, some deeply angry part of me, refused to cower. My face lifted, and I hissed at the demon despite my impending death. He was larger, he was faster, and he was nastier than the rest, with black eyes, black hair long enough to caress his shoulders, and fangs that looked as if he’d taken a sharpener to them. His jaw ticked with anger, and his tongue slicked across a full bottom lip.
“Fuck you,” I spat.
He leaned in close, close enough that his breath mixed with mine. “I can make that happen.”
“Rape? Torture? I’m game, bloodsucker. Go ahead and bite me.”
I wasn’t prepared for his white smile. “You think I care if you consent? Truth is, the moment my fangs pierce your artery, you’ll be begging for my dick.”
“And the moment my blood coats your tongue, you’ll die.”
“Let’s see if it’s true.”
My eyes narrowed when his fang tipped my lip. A warm trail of blood slithered over my chin, followed by his tongue.
His eyes closed on a growl, only to snap open black as the night. “I’m not burning. It seems the rumor is false.”

From a young age, I've had a love for horror. My mother used to watch horror movies regularly and read horror novels. Although I never read horror, I watched everything I could find and still do.
I started a manuscript titled, "The Harnesser," five years ago. The book required extensive research into dark witchcraft and demonology. I wrote the first three chapters, becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the material... so much so that I set it aside.
Occasionally, I reopened the document because I adored the story. Several times, I considered deleting it, but couldn't do it. Fastforward five years, and I started the Kings & Queens series. I knew I wanted to write an Unseelie book, and the wheels began to turn in my mind.
House of Unseelie needed to be different from House of Fae, so I opened The Harnesser document and went to work. After sitting for five years, I wasn't bothered by the material anymore. Needless to say, House of Unseelie developed from fifteen pages in an old manuscript.
So, if you think those old ideas aren't useful, think again. House of Unseelie is in the top two of my favorites from the series next to House of Warlock.
