My whole life, I’ve been the outsider. The wolves of the Anterrio Pack took my brother and me into their pack after our parents died.
To the pack, I remained the wild, untamed misfit despite my efforts to belong.
My first heat loomed ahead of the Luna Ball, and once again, I found myself attracting unwelcome attention, not just from my pack but also from the visiting Blackridge Peak Pack.
When my brother suspected their new alpha might hold answers about our past, he refused to put me at risk while he searched for the truth. Instead, he set me free from a pack that never truly accepted me.
Running from the only home I’d ever known, I longed for a fresh start. But in an unfamiliar human world, finding my place proved to be another challenge, as trouble followed me relentlessly.
Until I realized it was not misfortune that was dogging my heels.
It’s an alpha.

Happy Monday
How are you today?
Only a brief post this week, I've had a hectic week, and after my great blog post last time about all the words, I haven't written a word.
I have been busy though, and may or may not be talking to a new character in my head - which doesn't sound as bad as it looks, and hopefully have more to share soon!
I've had a wee bit of a turbulent week as you can probably tell, but I'll be back on track soon and update you on Wolf's Gambit!

What are words?
Using Merriam-Webster as a reference, a "word" is:
a speech sound or series of speech sounds that symbolizes and communicates a meaning usually without being divisible into smaller units capable of independent use
A further definition is offered for "words":
any segment of written or printed discourse ordinarily appearing between spaces or between a space and a punctuation mark
Interesting.
I've been quite happily writing the Blackridge Peak Series, Book 1 and Book 2 are both through editing and although Book 1 has been formatted, I am reformatting it, in line with some changes I made for Book 2.
It's a bad habit of mine. Overthinking is my downfall, causing me to overcomplicate things and inevitably mess them up. But, in a nutshell, Book 1 and Book 2 of the Blackridge Peak Series are done. So onto Book 3, right?
Wrong.

Allow me to explain. The blank page of Book 1 holds endless possibilities and untold tales. In Book 1 of your story, you can write about any setting, any character, and any adventure. Unleash your creativity. In Book 2, there is an opportunity to expand your horizons, shift your objectives, and yet remain on the same journey as outlined in Book 1.
Book 1 ☑️
Book 2 ☑️
Book 3...?
In Book 3, the last book of my trilogy, the boundaries of freedom are much narrower. A little more restrictive. Less movement and more of a case of the horizon being the only destination, on the road you've traveled so far.
Okay, I wrote the above line, thought of "the road so far" - and immediately jumped to Supernatural and Dean Winchester in my head and got distracted...
So, let me put it this way, envision your book series as a house under construction, with each book adding another essential element to its structure.
Book 1, sets your foundation; Book 2 builds upon it, forming the walls; and Book 3 brings it all together, adding the final touches like windows and a roof ensuring a secure and weatherproof structure.
And here is my current dilemma. With my foundation solidly in place, my walls have taken shape and...I don't have a roof and maybe only one window in so far. Okay, I have no windows.
But why? The story is two-thirds complete and the climax is approaching. My final destination should be in sight.
The task at hand is simply to navigate from the end of Book 2 to the conclusion of Book 3. I want to tie up all loose ends, leaving no unanswered questions, and provide my story with a satisfying and complete conclusion. Those windows should be primed and ready to seal in place. The roof should be ready to be assembled, almost premade in fact.
It's so simple. Foundation, walls, here come my windows and roof.
So, I ask you reader...what are words?

A Toast to the Editors
On Saturday, I received Book 2, Wolf's Betrayal, back from the editor, the first pass of edits is done and ready for me to look at.
I find editing weird. I mean, the lord knows I don't really give a hoot where the comma goes, and I will never ever learn not to write a dangling modifier, so I don't dispute how hard a job editors have.
But...
I may be a sensitive soul, and other authors may love this part, but editing makes me uncomfortable. The whole "open to critique" thing is a double-edged sword. On one hand, you need that to produce a better book, a more polished book. On the other hand, it's making yourself vulnerable.
Yes, it's exactly what you need, and make no mistake, my editor is an absolute sweetheart, but when I get a "What are you trying to say?" or a "This guy's an a**hole" - my little heart lurches with dread.
When I get an email, saying "Here's the first pass" - I open it gently, preparing myself for the good and the bad and a very long, usually uncomfortable, few hours.
BUT, without editing, and honest feedback, how else would I make my book better? It's all about polishing the product so that you, the reader, get the best I can give you.
So while editing fills me with dread, it's a very very necessary step.
Therefore, as I send the revised book back to the editor, I'd like to raise my coffee cup to toast the editors. I wouldn't do your job, also, I couldn't do your job, and I am very grateful that you do.
Cheers!

Great Writing Week
I had such an enjoyable week writing this book. I also had a really busy week at the day job, but I still managed over 17,000 words. I'm calling it a great week because the words are flowing...effortlessly.

This is book 2, and my characters are quite happy chatting with me and keeping me informed of all that's happening. This is huge. I am not about to start telling them not to, but alas, I had to stop today because it's Conference Championship weekend, which means I only have three games until the NFL season is over.
I reckon I have three chapters to write in this book, and then it's on to a short story, and a novella before I start book 3.
Don't forget it's cover reveal this Friday, exclusively in my Newsletter. I am SO excited to share the covers (yes you read that right), and the blurb for book 1!
Make sure you're signed up to see them or wait til next Monday, when I will share them here.
Have a great week!

Writing Update...
Hello!
I am a tad sleepy this morning as I write this, I watch all the NFL games live, so being in the UK means late to bed on Saturday night and Sunday night. It was a 4:20 am bedtime for me on Sunday morning, and around about 4 am again this morning - so to say I am bleary-eyed is not a lie.
BUT - you do not come here to listen to my bedtime routine during playoff season. Or probably even to come here about football at all! So, let's talk writing.
I made good progress on my current WIP this weekend, and more importantly, I planned the release dates! Cover reveal and more information is coming in my newsletter of February 2nd, so make sure you are signed up for that.
Here is the link - I send newsletters every three weeks, and additional NL's for release days, and/or occasional promotions which I think you may be interested in, but in general, I don't spam and it's a way of keeping up to date with all things me and my writing.

In terms of current work, I am three-quarters of the way through Book 2 and hope to finish it this weekend. Which we all know I probably won't, so definitely by next weekend...but I am focusing on getting it done this weekend.
I have a short novella to write, and another exciting project lined up, which I will tell you more about soon.
All in all, things are looking good in the world of writing and more importantly, I am on track! Yay!!!
I'll let you know how I get on with finishing the book, next week.

A Simple Book Review
It's Monday morning and being an NFL lover in the UK during playoff season is not good for the bags under my eyes. However, it is my choice to watch the games live - so I can't really complain (but I will).
It also dared to snow most of yesterday, and this morning those white flakes are still falling. Now I hurriedly jump in here to acknowledge that our snow and cold are not on the same level as weather seen in North America - but for us(me) - it's enough.
It's -1ºC (30ºF) and a wee bit nippy on the toes.
However, enough of football and weather, back to books. Despite all my best intentions on a Sunday, I usually do little on the actual adding to the word count on current projects and get distracted easily.
Yesterday was no different.
My sig. other, Mr. M. bought me two books for Christmas, and "Fourth Wing" was opened yesterday. I started it yesterday and I finished it yesterday - yes I read fast and remember that I also had a long day/night due to watching two games of football .

*I ack. the lack of inspirational photo for you, I need to up my blogger skills, instead of taking a snap of a book on my couch
I really enjoyed it. It was well-told and fast-paced. The tension was exquisite between Violet and Xaden, and it had lots and lots of action in it. It was a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, which is my favourite trope, and overall, this book ticked lots of boxes.
I knew very little about this book going in, apart from the general "everyone is raving about it" and I was sure dragons were involved, but not how. I also knew there were lots of "OMG that ending" on social media that I had seen, but not what the ending was (thankfully) - and honestly, that's my only criticism. I didn't have an "OMG" moment, I was quietly confident that's where the story was heading, and I wasn't left dangling off the edge of the cliff desperate for book 2.
BUT that did not deter me from my enjoyment of the book, nor will it deter me from reading book 2. Just because you may not have that "argh!" moment when a twist in a plot comes, doesn't mean the story is not enjoyable.
So overall, a good enjoyable story, that's well told. I give it five shiny stars.
In other news, Book 2 in my PNR is coming along nicely. My three beta readers have now all read Book 1 and the feedback is positive. Yay me.
I am halfway through Book 2 and I like where the story is and am keen to see where it's heading. You could say I should know because I'm the author...you funny thing you. Look at you, making jokes.
More on my PNR series next time though.
If you've read "Fourth Wing" let me know in the comments - but please no spoilers for either book 1 or book 2.
Have a great week!
Eve x
