Lessons Learned In Autumn – You can take time off!

I didn’t write a ‘lesson’s learned’ post last month because I was away on holiday at the end of September and I came back to a mountain of catch-up work to do. My holiday was quite unique for me, it was the first time in 15 years that I have been on holiday and not kept in touch with my work by email. In recent years, this has meant I’ve taken my laptop with me; 15 years ago I was using internet cafe’s and hotel receptions to make sure I stayed on top of everything.

What I learnt was valuable;...

101 Book Marketing Ideas for Authors is my way of trying to make sure I keep on track with my marketing activities. As an independent author and publisher it’s often easy to forget or overlook some of the basic activities that could propel your book up the listings. This is going to be a work in progress, and when I complete a new idea I’ll make sure that the link is added to this page.

Make sure you ask for reviews in your Kindle and eBook copies
Add an About the Author page to your book

My Weekly Word is Acrimony: Do You Have An Alternative Meaning?

Acrimony, even the sound it makes you think that it’s not very pleasant and when I spotted it in my thesaurus I knew I just had to have it on the blog. It was quite difficult to come up with an alternative meaning but I got there in the end and my offering this week is “The smell of freshly laundered money

This week’s word is ACRIMONY,it is a NOUN and is pronounced ‘ak-rhu-mon-ee’

Acrimony is used to mean a variety of unpleasant things like sharpness, harshness, or bitterness of nature, speech...

It’s NaNoWriMo … some resources for authors taking part

Well, its that time of year again, when authors hunker down and get on with the business of committing to write at least 50,000 words as November runs it’s course. For those of you who are taking part this year, I thought I’d gather a set of useful resources which may be helpful in ensuring you meet as much of your target as possible.

Main NaNoWriMo website – nanowrimo.org/

If you’re on Twitter then you’ll want to keep up with their tweets at: twitter.com/NaNoWriMo. You could also use the hasht...

October Giveaways Still Open

Each month I share my blog with between four and five authors. These posts are called the Thursday Throng and they are an interview. Sometimes the authors are prepared to offer a free copy of their book to someone that comments on their interview and says ‘hello’. The following month, I choose the winners of the free copies and just to remind people I do an update of those giveaways which are still open for potential winners.

I’ve listed all the interviews that have giveaways that are still op...

Especially for Billgncs; ASSAYED is The Weekly Word: What’s YOUR Alternative Meaning?

I love it when people get involved in my blog and take me at my word. Over the last few months I’ve been sharing my weekly word posts and I’ve suggested that if readers have a favourite word that they let me know and I’ll share it.

Today, I have my first suggestion and it comes from the lovely Billgncs who resides over at:bwthoughts.wordpress.com.He admits his suggestion was purloined from Doug McIlroy at: ironwoodwind.wordpress.com and and the word is Assayed

So, I’ve had a few days to come up...

Friday Fictioneers Tales of t’Internet – Len Scleaner the Ocularist

This week I’ve decided to try to combine two of the things I like to try out in one Friday Fictioneers challenge. I’m attempting to add another story to my Tales of t’Internet series, which is my slightly sideways look at the subject of search engine optimisation through the medium of the fairy tale. I know, it’s odd but do bear with me.

Firstly, a big thank you to Rochelle Wiseoff for managing the group and secondly I thank you to Ted Strutz for the photo

The usual restrictions apply to the im...
