Lake Amethyst

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
Not a soul in sightAs twilight darkened Turning the sky An ominous shade Of brooding violetMirroring the ancient lakeThat sat pondering in silence
Boats floated atopTheir shadows Doubling the countAdding to the mysterious darknessThat crept from all sides
Scattered, the brown rocksWaited-For the waves to rippleFor the boats to sailFor the unseen presenceTo shatterTo give up & go awayTo leave them in peace That was snatched years agoBy a wrinkled figureWhose curse turned the lake lifeless.

Kissed by the Divine

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
Made of wood-Sawed, mended, & polishedWith holes drilledI was called a masterpiece.
The blowing breeze dancedWinding its way throughTickling and teasing meCoaxing a tuneThey wanted to name, melody.
Hands changed; grip tightened & easedNone made a differenceAs all I did was wheeze & sneezeNeither was there a songNor was there any concern.
And then he appeared The mist enhancing his cobalt skinEyes heavy with wisdomAn alluring contrast To the chiseled nose and brows.
I knew he was like no otherAs his gentle handsHeld me to his lips-Oh, how do I explain this wonderThis feeling of ecstasy flowing through me
Tender and lightHis touch danced on my holesMesmerizing the world While I musically sighedBeing kissed by the divine.

Just You & Me

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju

Just you & meOn a rainy noonWalking hand in hand Under the wet umbrellaOn an empty street
Just you & meSurrounded by the treesDripping dropletsOf blessings and good wishesTo support our love
Just you & me Away from the watchful eyesJudging and sneeringNot understandingThat love has no gender.

Into Oblivion

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
In the murky watersNo one to stop his mission Toiled he tired old soulOn his way to a distant destinationOnly his wise eyes could fathom;Birds flew, away from his boatLeaving him to sail offInto the dark mistVaporizing life as it spread its armsInfluencing and inviting the old man Over and over again to embrace its gift, forNow was his chance to escape this cruel world.

Note: The poem is written in Acrostic style.

High Up the Mountains

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
HighUpOver thereFar awayAcross the globeAgainst the snowOn an earthy mountainThree men in redImmersed in a deep discussionBut not a word spoken;Away from needs, wants, & desiresThey found peace by owning nothing.Yet they were the richest amongst allWith Nature’s abundant love protecting them always.

Emotions Unknown

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
She sat on the riverbankStaring away from the shimmering wavesImmersed in her memoriesThat threatened to slip down The almond eyes, heavy with turmoil.
The world blurred around herFading away as a sigh escapedInto the silent breezeCarrying the pain of her heart Over the crystal watersTo the distant lands.
Was it a plea for her lost love? Was it a hopeless wait for recognition? Was it a suppressed cry for one last chance? Was it exhaustion from surrendering to fate? Was it the regret of not speaking up?Was it the remnants of the drained energy? What could she say when she knew not why her heart was empty?

Diya on the Wall

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
On the wall sat the ancient diya*
The flame steady as the aged mountainsMourning the death piling in the dark shadows
For hours, days, weeks, and monthsThe flame burned, relentless in spreading lightEven as the void threatened to extinguish the world.
######
Note: Diya is a small cup-shaped oil lamp made from clay.
The poetry style used is Cherita.

P.S: I wrote the draft two days ago; almost 1 1/2 day before the PM's announcement. It does seem fitting to share this today (since tomorrow will be a break day).

Come With Me

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
A chance meeting-Coincidence, deliberate, or destinyI never questionedAs strings tugged meTowards her.
Chestnut hair, white dress-All I can ever remember Since the day our paths crossedChanging my life’s directionTo chase her.
Blur, green, gray, or amber-I knew not the color of her eyesEven as her whispers echoedChaining my fate To follow hers.
Come with me-The words were a chantLuring me not to a paradiseBut to a reality stranger than lifeWhere I became her.
Real or illusion-It never did matterWatching the vision disappear Into the mossy aura aroundUrging me to trust her.
So trust I did-Waiting, enduring, survivingLiving her life and mineAs our fates entwinedPromising to free us both, together.
