The Winter Blues (and Flus) are Here
Well, it's official. The cold, windy days of January are here. In Pennsylvania, the months of January through March are typically the coldest months of the year. They also happen to be the highest chances of snow as well. If winter is your favorite season, I kinda sorta maybe get it. I mean if (and only if) it snows, it is a truly beautiful time of year. Honestly, it smells pretty amazing when it snows, too. But, here in PA, the chances of snow remaining on the ground for that perfect, pretty winter scene for more than a day or so is minimal. So, tell me, does it snow a lot where you live? Do you have those picturesque white winters? If you do, comment below and share a photo.
I've discovered that I am not actually sick. Since mid-December, I could have sworn that I had a helluva cold. But my doc says "nope, you've got allergies." I have never snorted so much nasal spray in my life. Give me a cold any day.
In other news, I finally started my Youtube channel. Yay me! I've got a few videos up now and my channel will focus on writing goals/advice, the oh-so-elusive writer/family balance act, and writing vlogs and live events as I begin the work of Kiss of the Arctic. It's gonna be a crazy, busy, and fantastically fun year. :D

Romance Tropes and Why They Matter
These days we hear the word "tropes" all over the tiny corner of the internet that belongs to books. What are they, why do they matter, and why do we love some more than others?
Tropes are basically a theme that encompasses the overall plot of a story. And they matter because it is an easy, searchable term that readers and authors can use to find and market books that interest them.
Now, there are a ton of tropes out there, especially in the romance genre, but for the sake of not making this blog post the length of a novel, I'll focus on the most popular of them.
The Love Triangle: A story that focuses on one character falling in love with two (or more) different love interests and ultimately having to choose one.
The Reverse Harem: A story that focuses on one character falling in love with two (or more) different love interests and NOT having to choose one.
Fake Relationship: A story that focuses on two characters that have to pretend to be in a relationship for some reason and end up falling in love for real
Forced Marriage: A story that focuses on one or both characters being forced into an unwanted marriage and ultimately falling in love with each other.
Fated Love (or Fated Mates): A story that focuses on the two characters being destined to be together, often involving a strong and undeniable attraction and emotional connection.
Billionaires: A story that focuses on one character (usually a woman) gaining the affections (and love) of a wealthy man.
Friends to Lovers: A story that focuses on two characters that have been long-time friends falling in love.
Enemies to Lovers: A story that focuses on two characters that strongly dislike each other or are on opposite sides of a conflict falling in love.
So, now that you have a little description of what these popular tropes are, do any of them ring any bells for you? Maybe realized you tend to gravitate towards romances of a particular trope? Any favorites? Any that immediately turn you off? Let me know by commenting below!

Starting Over
I've thought about this and mulled it over for almost six months now, and I've finally made a decision.
Two years ago, I published my first book, titled First Kiss of Freedom at the time. A few short months later, I published my second book, titled Kiss of Fire. I sold a few dozen copies between the two since October of 2018. Nothing to write home about, I assure you. Considering I had virtually no budget, few connections, and little experience at the time, I'm calling those few dozen copies a success. But time's have changed.
And that means those books need to change. I've learned a lot in two years and I think it's time to revamp these books and try to do them justice. With the first draft of book three complete, I've decided to unpublish the first two books from Amazon. I want to give all the books a complete facelift. New titles, new covers, and even some extra content. Some of which you will already see as you're perusing around here. ;) Unfortunately, due to Amazon's rules, that means having to publish them under new ISBN numbers.
I'm optimistic about this new beginning. I have a much better idea of cover design, storytelling, and marketing tactics that might actually work. I'm excited to see how much more I can accomplish with this newfound knowledge of the industry.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates and wish me luck!

Bitten by Darkness Cover Reveal
I am so excited to finally reveal the cover for Bitten by Darkness, a full-length prequel to my Forbidden Fate series. But first, the description.
A SLAVE WITH A SECRET EVEN SHE DOESN'T KNOW
They bleed her every night. Without fail, without a thought, without a choice. Their fangs sink into her flesh and make her skin crawl. Make her want to punch some pointy teeth out if she could. Nessie Robinson is a vampire's slave. And it sucks. Pun intended.
But he was different. He made her smile. Made her want to get closer. Until he abandoned her. That was ten years ago. And now, he's back. His return stirs pieces of her deep inside. Pieces she thought she'd buried years ago. Pieces she didn't even know were there...
A VAMPIRE WITH A PLAN THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE HER
Charlie Matthews wants one thing. Revenge. And after four long centuries, he's finally getting close. Until he tastes...her. The girl he'd foolishly befriended years ago. A single drop of her blood triggers the bond. Marks her as his. But his Maker never allows mates to live long. Torn between the revenge he's planned for centuries and the need to keep his mate in one piece, he screws up. Big time. And his mistake could cost him his revenge and the mate he never knew he needed…
