The ever-witty Dale Price offers an alternative headline

"San Francisco may be stupid enough to vote for a law that will be struck down faster than the bishop in Caddyshack."

The term for this law is "State-mandated anti-semitism". If they are stupid enough to pass it, I hope every Jew (and every Christian who cares about freedom of religion, cuz we're next) tells the City of San Francisco to go to hell and defies the law. Next it will be hand-wringers demanding that "alcohol consumption by minors" and "gluten-intolerant oppression" be targeted in Communion.

Prayer Request

A reader writes:
I would greatly appreciate it if you would put up a prayer request for my grandfather Earl on your blog. He found out yesterday that he has masses in and on his liver. He is still waiting for a biopsy to determine what the masses are.
Father, hear our prayer that the power of the Risen Christ would heal this man in body, soul, and spirit. Mother Mary, pray for him and all who love him and care for him!

Apparently...

...something else is happening this weekend in addition to the Royal Wedding.

Some sort of religious thing in Rome about a figure who was important to a couple of people a few years ago. Can't remember his name.

Santo subito!

If you are wondering how it came to pass...

...that the media no longer exist to inform you, but to enrich and empower themselves as lapdogs to still richer and more powerful people, look no farther.

And stop, by the way, believing the lie that there are two parties in DC, one of which cares about you and your concerns. Note the guest list. These people belong to a class that regards you and me as fodder and food, not as fellow citizens. They don't live in the same world as garden variety citizens of the US. Their transparent ambition is to escape all that just as much as the transparent ambition of a Lake Wobegon teenager is to get away from Lake Wobegon.

A reader writes...

I just heard about the Iron nun - an 80 year-old triathalete nun. Do you know anything about her? Do nuns "retire" since something I read said she lives on her own now. I know not all religious are in cloisters.

To think that she started running around my age makes me think...
I hadn't heard of her, but now that I read the story, I think I'll forget about bragging that I lost 50 pounds and just go get a milk shake. My life is a failure.

I dunno about living arrangements for elderly nuns. I reckon it depends on how their order is constituted. I expect there are lots of different approaches to retirement.

Karin Vogel

...a therapist and counselor in Rostock, Germany, is 4,973rd, and last, in line for the British throne. She's cool with that.

There's a Kind Hearts and Coronets concept screenplay in that story somewhere.

Everything That's Wrong with Combox Kneejerkery

summed up in one conversation in my comboxes, talking about the Birther Insanity:
Reader A: I think you are on to something very important with this post. I was just talking with a friend the other day and we were lamenting how sad it is that in certain circles if you don't think Obama is a Kenyan-born, Muslim, socialist you therefore must agree with all of his policies. I give an example: Another Catholic blog had a story connecting a lightening strike near the White House with Obama's failure to issue an Easter Proclamation. I simply linked to Obama's Easter Prayer Breakfast and observed that perhaps the prayer breakfast was done in lieu of a Proclamation. I added that it seemed that having a Prayer Breakfast for a holiday was more substantial than issuing a proclamation. Many commentors responded by assuming I defended Obama and all of his policies. Demanding people support your conspiracy theories in order to be part of the loyal oppposition to the President's policies is almost as insane as the conspiracy theories themselves. It is no way to build a coalition and its no way to conduct public discourse. The lack of distinction between the two is an omnious sign for this country and its a shame some Catholics have been sucked into this mentality.

Reader B: No offense Justin, but you can't be Catholic and pro-choice.
Sheesh!

Godspeed...

Will and Kate!

Missed it myself, since it is my custom to sleep through Royal Weddings when they happen at 3 AM. However, Frank Weathers liked the homily.

This seemed to me to be a really good day for Dr. Who to turn up and stop and alien plot, but there was nothing in the news about it. No doubt a cover up. We'll get the real story in some future episode.

Anyway, huzzah! Go Royals!
