My friend Marcus Daly...

has a line of work people are dying to get into:

If you've longed for that simple JPII pine box funeral (without the global media coverage, immense liturgy, and hundreds of heads of state, dignitaries, bishops, priests and an audience shouting "Santo Subito!") Marcus is your go to guy for the pine box part.

You can find him online here.

Bad News: Geezer Woodstock Priest Defies Abp of Detroit

...celebrates Mass with aging geezette pretend priestess wannabes.

Good News: Geezer priest seems to have been one of the youngest people there.

A friend with an autistic son writes

If you are on Facebook, you may have already seen this, but I wanted to take the bold move and ask if any of you would consider making a contribution to a fund we've set up for Joshua in order to go to DIR/Floortime Summer Day Camp.  This camp is a treatment camp that would help Joshua with his autism treatment, focusing more on social skills.  Here is a link to learn more about this camp:  http://www.rosemarywhitepediatricservices.com/summer_camps.html
We had applied for a grant for the $2100 it costs to send him to this camp, but were not approved, just finding out on Saturday.  This is where you come in.

A friend told me of this website where folks could contribute to a fund that we set up with Paypal and I thought we would give it a chance.  I know folks are interested in how he is doing, and in regards to the day to day, he is making some progress, but there are good days and better days.  His diet and the supplements are helping, I'm sure of it, but the treatment is where it is at and we simply don't have the resources to get all the treatment we would like for him in addition to the help he gets from the Northshore School District.  Anyway, here is a link to the website where you can contribute to helping send Joshua to summer camp.  Even a contribution as little as $5 can help considering the number of people we are blessed to have placed footprints on our hearts.  http://joshuawhughes.chipin.com/joshua-hughes-to-go-to-dirfloortime-camp.  Camp starts on July 18th, but since we need to pay for the camp before it starts, I'm asking to have this go until July 11th.  Any contributions you would like to make, go directly to a Paypal account I've set up for Josh.

I will be posting updates on FB and his blog as to how the fundraising is progressing as well as how Josh does at camp.

I was searching for a scripture that gives a picture of my plea as a mother and I came across Matthew 15:21-28 that seems to fit quite well:
9 Then Jesus went from that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
I humbly and gratefully thank you for your prayerful consideration of assisting us in sending Joshua to camp, at the very least, by your prayers.
If you can help them, that would be wonderful!

Brandon Vogt writes...

I thought you and your blog readers might like my exhaustive list of free (or cheap) Catholic eBooks. From the Church fathers, to Augustine, to Aquinas, to Dante, to scores of saints, mystics, and holy men and women, there's something for everyone. I just got an Amazon Kindle for my birthday and was blown away by how many eBooks you can acquire for free or fairly cheap.
Now you know!

Corny Youth Minister Homily Concept

Yes. But can it destroy... hate?

For some reason, I'm reminded of another Jonathan Coulton song:

Reader Ben Govero writes:

I hope all is going well! Could you let your readers know about the St. Louis Eucharistic Congress 2011. It will be held June 24-26 and features a Saturday night concert with Ike Ndolo and Audrey Assad! It's a free event and there's more information here.

Also, check out the promo video we made for it:

Anything featuring the extraordinarily gifted Audrey Assad has to be good!

I'm waiting for her to turn up in Seattle so I can hear her live. Audrey! Where are you?
